  1. As a Mythic prog raider in WoW until half way through BFA, and 2.0 Beta+Current FF14 vet as well, I prefer FF14's approach to encounter design as it has evolved FAR more than WoW's. FF14 does a fantastic job being challenging and FAIR, whereas WoW has degenerated into heavy shock RNG, addon overdependence, and even outright buggy broken encounters. Last Mythic boss I progged was Jaina and pulls were NOT "We need to do A B and C right, and work on D and E", pulls were "I hope we get a good spell pattern, I hope gryphon riders don't bug out and drop bombs before even spawning so I can stun them out of the bombs, etc".
It wasn't learning and improving and executing, it was fishing for RNG and hoping the fight works the way it should and an unfixed bug doesn't screw us over months after the fight released. My group only managed Mythic Fallen Avatar in TOS during Legion but I can imagine Mythic Kil'Jaeden pulls boiled down to "Man I hope Illidan spawns in a good spot, I hope the adds aren't too far off center, and I hope we get a good knockback pattern". That's just RNG garbage. Sure it's "hard" because it will kill you, but it's just hard due to being unfair and random.

  2. Agree with a lot of the comments. Matt has a great understanding of the game and how the systems work so I love watching his takes but trying to watch Bellular try to add input or keep up with the conversation is making these videos a lot weaker than they could be.

  3. Diamond Weapon is the easiest of the three weapon fights. Emerald is the hardest just because of the non-telegraphed lines. Also Emerald has the best transition music, "The Black Wolf Stalks Again".
But all of that is bested by BIG FAT TACOS. Greatest glowup I've seen since The Primals' Brute Justice.

  4. TP was like an exhaustion system (not the same exhaustion system in 1.x that eliminated gained EXP after several hours of play for grind) where you were either using your skills and character got exhausted swinging that Overpower 6-7 times or sprinted and had to attack slowly like your character was out of breath. it began to really suck when they changed Army's Peaon on bard that buffed party with higher TP regeneration for the cost of the bards MP (like most of the ballads were back then).
-As for the Role Class skills, those were once class locked and only obtainable after levelling the class owner of the skill obtains it, I.E: Healer class could not use Swiftcast until you levelled Thaumaturge to lvl.24. now there is nearly no restriction on these shared skills except for their level requirement.

  5. Woah woah this is getting out of hand. You guys are talking about literally the last Trial in the game when Bellular hasn't even gotten to half of ARR in over 2 months. It's disingenuous at this point.

  6. One thing coming from Endwalker is the stat squash, so doing older content will not be as much as a faceroll. Which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view. So even if it takes Michael a while to get to Diamond Weapon, it might still be a challenge.

  7. One of relic zone raids if you get hit by two abilities of a boss you get doom and die and does not matter if the ability does next to no damage to you now try that without looking it up so yes shadow bringers has some fights were you can not just hit the boss and win welcome to ffxiv fights.

  8. The class balance is what ffxiv did right. Every job is not that far from each other. Sure there are still meta jobs for each encounters but the other jobs are more than viable enough and the difference is not overly huge.

The raids, i prefer WoW's chaotic pace where lots of random things can happen. Just wish that the raids are less than 20 so atleast everyone has to do their own parts like in ffxiv. WoWs raid problem is that 2-3 people can slack off while not in ffxiv. In ff14 however, the raids get repetitive as its always the same move at the same timeline.

Storywise WoW is also better. Ff14 is just too cheesy.

But thats what you get unreals for! I really really hope that they give UNREAL treatment to ultimates one day too especially with EW. And i hope that ultimates are just something you can do rather then an event tho i know why it is like this now!

  10. UCoB and UwU are prime examples of how system changes can negatively influence both the pacing and design of the end game. Whilst the mechanics for these fights are still, for the most part, screw up and kill everyone. The fact that tanks all have Old Warrior Tank Stance HP, they all have more damage, they take less damage. Every healer and damage job has boosted HP allows for people to save more cooldowns that make these things less scary. New jobs, new actions are allowing for entire parts of ultimate fights to be skipped which is disheartening. THANKFULLY; with Unreal? There's a proof of concept that they can rebalance Ultimates to be max level content. And I'd love for them to truly maintain the prestige instead of letting them rot and get easier each expansion. If only from a stat perspective.

  11. I hate Diamond weapon. For me it is the worst fight in SHB.
It just feels annoying that he always dissapears and because of that it is hard to maintain your rotation.
The DPS check is also extremly easy and that makes the fight itself easy.

But that comes from a person who really liked e8s.
