I started FF because I had read 3 different articles saying things like "Shadowbringers is the best JRPG story in a decade." "Shadowbringers is the best Final Fantasy story in a long time." on top of Zepla making videos persuading wow players to come play.
That was around 5.4, so everything tracks with what Jesse is saying here.
I'm not hyped for 7.0 as it's mostly MSQ patch and i can't be hyped for MSQ. Getting hyped for MSQ would mean i'm building in my mind a perfect scenario (that in hindsight may or may not be full of holes) and i know whatever MSQ will be it will be different from what i'd imagine, possibly leading to disappointment. If i'm not hyped i can just let the MSQ take me and fully enjoy it. Too much unknown to be not falsely hyped.
I'm hyped for 7.05 tho, the GPU raidtier must have killer soundtrack to enjoy whatever will be happening on the screen.
01:23:00 I work at an office in a school…
I love these interviews of these. Quazi always has great questions for the guests.
Excited to see this interview.
For the "what will bring people back" this is my limited experience. My entire FC, who mostly played since 2.0, fell off during EW patches. So far none of us have preordered. There are two questions people have before coming back: are certain things they dislike about their jobs/combat being addressed? (So far, no). How good is the story when Ishikawa isn't the main writer? (Will have to see). Most people either want really cool encounters/combat, or they want really good story. As soon as they hear one of those has happened, they'll try it again.
A good idea someone brought up in one of Zepla's media tour new job reviews (I forget which one) is bringing a job you're new with into Palace of the Dead to see the natural job progression as you level it up from the beginning.
Personally I feel the DT job changes are subtly trying to add some identities to the jobs and some smoothing of the 2 mins meta. If that's correct or no we'll see in a few days
Thx Jessie for showing the relief with the sun iconography. With Yoshi saying that myths of the realm and the convocation have some interesting info and appling it to the reliefs, i feel like this expansions will nurture Azem stuff but does not delve outright into their lore. I wonder we ever see straggler blasphemies in tural
Thanks so much for the chapters Iβm trying to consume as much media tour as I can π
Hopefully, there's no body swapping this time. In From The Cold pi55ed me off so bad that it ended SB for me. Not the mechanics (i didn't even do them). It ended in the cut scene for me.
quazii mizzteq whenn? she's the og mother for all the sprouts who started in arr π
Poor Jesse, constantly reminded how old he is. lol
The Entry question is an interesting one, but yeah, the highest staying power of any RPG, MMO or otherwise, is investment in it as a 'thing.' You know, investment in being in the Lord of the Rings or being in Star Wars or attachment to Dragon Age as a setting or Mass Effect and so on. FFXIV invest more in that 'RPG' part than trying to hook people via gameplay elements which is very easy to be grindy/addicting/sunk cost if the balance is off. I think most people respond better to 'Dude in a Room' if they know the dude, why he's in the room and why they are in the room more than anything else.

I just want a Seed Uniform for GNB.
Testing a job with all the new action to learn does feel daunting, but I plan to run PotD so that I can get a feel for the job quickly from level 1-60
A thought to the entry barrier, specifically players wanting to join friends who are in endgame: there are a couple of ways to help them keep engaged with the game and MSQ in that instance.
Firstly: queue with them! Run the dungeons and trials with that new friend. Make their queues shorter, and keep engaged with them as they run through (and if you want, help them cheese through unsynced! Is it cheating? Maybe, but still legal!!! Also its kinda stupid fun. As long as they are down with it).
Option two: make and alt and run through with them Its more time intensive, but if you arent very busy with an FC or other parts of the "endgame" its a good way to keep them company and as a bonus, you get a new crack at the story!
Neither are perfect options, but they are ways to help the friend jumping in not feel disconnected from what undoubtedly is one of the reasons they want in! That is what my friends did when I got on board, and it made a massive difference.
I always try low level dungeons with new jobs to see the skills progression, that is a great tip from Jesse.
JESSE IS AN ABSOLUTE GEM IN FF COMMUNITY, LOVE HIS ENERGYπtime to dig in!
Honestly, it was sort of baffling to see major XIV creators go from lauding XIV to shitting on it for pretty much the same reasons.
I feel like dawntrail will be the setting up for a new story arc obviously, and as with any setting up it will be slower to build more upon the world and new characters so we can have all the emotional and lore payoff in more expansions to come, setting up is as important as deliviring a good ending.
Saying that the people who disliked Endwalker post launch content are just a "noisy vocal minority" is a pretty disingenuous take. This whole interview felt like aggressively forced positively. Guys its okay to criticize the game sometimes on particular aspects.
I can't wait for DT. I can't wait for a new story about new things in a new place. I don't care if it's more of an ARR pace / excitement. They have things to set up and loose ends to lay and strings to hide. I hope they keep tweaking the graphics improvements and general settings into the future so that I can enjoy playing this game until they shut the servers down or make FF24 Online. Will some people find it boring? of course but they are not relevant to me. I hope they find something they enjoy as much as I enjoy playing FFXIV.
i also started wow with the new starting experience and wasn't able to get into it because they were calling me champion and talking about how i needed to sail to a mesoamerican place and help them and i had no idea what the hell was happening and why am i a champion at level 10
Damn the end of Pande- raid had him go towards water…. so we meet a reincarnated version in this exp???
