There are a lot of Final Fantasy 14 Tier List out there, and some of them have something in common when it comes to Monk. Let’s talk about Monk in FF14 Endwalker

I mained monk before any other class/job. I’m comfortable with monk. When I try other DPS classes/jobs they always feel slow to me lol. Like if I’m not moving, it feels wrong. I guess I’m weird too lol. I have never understood the monk hate.
Oh so monk just needs better animation, gear, and weapons
Mods my friends, mods. Check Ideal Monk Action Mod on youtube. Changed my monk forever
I was trying to parse ex3 since I wanted to improve my monke game. I did terrible, died a few times but I was still 2nd place in damage done. It's insane how much dps monks deal.
Never follow tierlist from so called "articles".
I wish my monk had a aura cannon/kamehameha. I know its on purpose they disnt give it. Its a miatake imo. I want to see some FF6 flashyness from mnk.
I imagine that if I threw darts at a dart board, my tier-list would look something like this.
Monk weapons leaves a lot to be desired . I wish the devs would take a look at REAL weapons that monks can wield. Monks should be able to double wield swords. What happened to nanchucks, hooks, hook swords, chains, poles (in a different style from the dragoon), cudgels. But what do we get? Comical looking giant hands.
I think people regard monk as being like it was 2 expansions ago. For me, monk has a brilliant flow and is really fun to play, plus bow it hits like a truck. While monk doesn't have many super flashy moves it is hand down the hardest class, how many other classes brought down the endsinger with their hands👊.
Hahah my two jobs i play exclusively in the bottom. What does that say about me 😂😂
Since endwalker I think monk has become easy to learn but hard to master. And absolutely monk is just punchey fish (although that’s what I love about it I always say I’m just here to hit stuff). I finally convinced my husband to give monk a shot, and he complained the entire time about the rotation, didn’t want to adjust his play style to how monk works and quit at level 70, just when it gets good!
I think us monk mains just need to accept we are a rare breed 🤣🤣
I've played monk for the majority of Endwalker and still loving it. It's become my main plus the fashion is on point with monks.
Monk has become my comfy job now and I agree it needs more love. Give us a god damn range attack like all the other melees and some nice looking weapons.
All points I agree with.
My attraction to monk since the beta has always been due to job fantasy (background in fighting games) and playstyle.
Never been about the aesthetics or weapons (hell sometimes I like bare-handed).
I will say tho I was hoping that by Endwalker monks would get a trait to update the animations of the core GCDs (ie melee mastery) that haven’t changed since ARR.
Due to our lore we should be demonstrating more feats of explosive power than just what we see in our 3 Blitz and simple chakra spender.
I first tried mnk at the beginning of EW and learned it pretty fast thx to ur mnk guide that u dropped on release
I think that tier list in general looks super off. The main thing that blows my mind is that machinist is mid-tier.
A lot of the guns in this game look like the japanese devs have never actually seen a gun. Most guns have excessive stuff added to them, a weird barrel shape or just look like a brick with a trigger. The few exceptions you got usually dye poorly (Wanderer's Revolver keeps a urine-colored grip, deepshadow revolver dyes poorly, …). You also never get rid of the lunchbox on your hip, which serves no purpose for two expansions now and doesn't change its style based on your weapon like the bard quiver does. All in all aesthetically I find machinist very lackluster. Not being able to holster smaller guns at your hip instead of on your back is another issue for me.
For abilities, most of them are "shoot and do a backflip" and stuff like that. They're not terrible but they could be way better visually. The Automata Queen looks cool but is as interactive as living shadow – you press the button and watch her go. Flamethrower probably takes the cake as one of the worst buttons to press. The idea of using a flamethrower appeals to everyone, but the damage only ever pops off if you got nothing else to press at the moment and a ton of targets, and not playing the game for 10 seconds is pretty boring. You also cannot move during the flamethrower channel (think of Rumble in League) and on that note you have no movement abilities either like bard's backstep or the dancer dash.
Damage-wise there's not much to write home about either. No utility + mobility tax leave this job in such a tricky spot to balance to the point where it's just underwhelming back to back. Now that summoner almost exclusively instacasts, you're better of bringing bard/dancer and having your second ranged be summoner over machinist for the party bonus and added utility. If your caster wants to play a high damage caster like Black Mage, Bard or Dancer become even better options over machinist. Machinist damage output doesn't even begin to make up for their lack of utility compared to other selfish dps like Blackmage or Samurai.
The only thing they got going for them is that the job is very easy to get into. You don't have any of those complex setup-heavy rotations where you need to plan out the complete six minute encounter, you have a simple priority list to follow, a 2 minute burst to line up (I actually hate wildfire as an ability, and it's shocking to me that it's still not an AoE with a fall-off after the first target, making it absolutely useless in dungeon trash pulls) and two relatively forgiving gauges to spend. The gameplay loop can get repetitive quickly, but if you're trying to optimize that's gonna be the thing that'll keep you engaged.
Now since Machinist is above jobs like Bard and Dancer, I can hardly take this tier list seriously. It's on the same level as Ninja and Ninja feels pretty good right now and has its own category of gear so if you wanna glam those neat scouting sets, you have to play Ninja, which gives it a lot of fashion points in my book. (For machinist you got two other aiming jobs to go with.) Dancer is visually more satisfying and just as easy to get into, but but lacks chakram glamour options at the moment. Bard has good glamour options, caters to the traditional archer fantasy and the songs and dots keep me relatively engaged. Depending on the song you are playing it can feel either pretty busy or relatively monotonous, but I don't think thats necessarily a huge problem. Both of these Jobs also come with unique utility aside from damage buffs with Bard having a ST Healing amp and an emergency esuna while dancer gets to heal and shield a bit during boss downtime.
All in all this list completely falls apart for me solely because Machnist is middle of the pack. I play machinist, I somewhat enjoy it, but I don't see it objectively above any other dps at the moment, just because on an objective level I see so many flaws on this job that it would probably go into the "Needs a thorough rework" tier next to dark knight for me.
