More about Final Fantasy 14:

“Final Fantasy XIV[b] is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) for Microsoft Windows personal computers, developed and published by Square Enix in 2010. It is the fourteenth entry in the main Final Fantasy series and the second MMORPG in the series after Final Fantasy XI. Set in the fantasy realm of Eorzea, players take control of a customized avatar as they explore the land and are caught up in both an invasion by the hostile Garlean Empire and the threat of the Primals, the deities of the land’s Beastmen tribes. Eventually, they are embroiled in a plot by a Garlean Legatus to destroy the Primals by bringing one of the planet’s moons down on Eorzea.

Final Fantasy XIV takes place in a high fantasy setting. The main location is Eorzea, a continent on the larger planet Hydaelyn: this contrasts Final Fantasy XI which uses one name to refer to the entire world and its regions. Eorzea is broken up among three main powers: the forest nation of Gridania; the desert-based Ul’dah sultanate; and the thalassocracy of Limsa Lominsa, Eorzea’s dominant maritime power. Other important locations include the scholarly city-state of Sharlayan and the Garlean Empire, a hostile northern power with highly developed technology. Five years prior to the start of the game, the Garlean Empire invaded the land of Ala Mhigo, but were prevented from conquering Eorzea by the attacks of the ancient dragon Midgardsomr and his dragon hordes. In response to the Empire’s threat, the three nations of Eorzea reform the Grand Companies, comprehensive centers of command which combine the cities’ military and economic assets. The Grand Companies attracted people from all walks of life, who take up the mantle of Adventurers.”

  1. The reason your charachter didn’t do anything about Metion when she explained what she found, was because Elidibus said, you CAN NOT do anything to change course of history, because you only exist BECAUSE of that history

  2. Venat didn't do it on her own. She had supporters who sacrificed themselves to turn her into Hydalaen. She then battled Zodiark and during the battle she sundered him (and the world), as Emet-Selch said during ShB.

The Amaurot scene was mostly a metaphorical journey.

The rejoining hurt her because they were cataclysms that killed a LOT of people. That black goo was actually blood, but they changed it due to censorship reasons. She also took several blows for us- ie, absorbing Ultima Weapon attacks as well as the light that was killing us in ShB.

Finally, the scene with the flashbacks to us and Emet was there to represent the fact that as she said before we left Elpis, that she would walk with us until the end. She has been with us the whole time.

  3. Now you know. Hydaelyn is essentially Venat, containing her mind, soul, and emotions. They can't be talked about separately completely. Because they are now one in the same. And this story exists in a closed time loop. The flashback with Venat was from the very beginning of Endwalker where she talks to you on the ship to Sharlayan. Her promise of another age was the promise she made to you in Elpis.

This is also why she takes Venat's form. Hydaelyn is Venat.

Hythlodaeus (which is his real name, not a title) in fake Amaurot would not remember you as Kro because Hades/Emet-Selch does not remember you from Elpis and the real Hythlodaeus was stuck in Zodiark. His soul had not passed on to the Lifestream/Aetherial Sea when you meet on the moon. Thus, his soul was not yet cleansed to remember anything.

  4. There is actually a large part of the community that just plays the rpg part of this game and then end their sub after they finish it. Now the reason you may have been board in the dungeon is the trust they go way faster with other people. But yeah final is a rpg franchise so people playing 14 as an rpg make sense.

  5. I get the impression that this area of the galaxy is very very old. Given how absolute advanced the civilization of Etherys was, and those out there were all barren or dead, it makes me think this area of space is very very ancient already.

  6. I wish I made a prediction video on the final days source. I predicted back in 5.2 that the final days is a song, and was right. Meteion literally says "to this song of anguish I lend my voice, we lend our voice". The "song of oblivion". The final boss of the Amaurot dungeon looked like some kind of instrument, and the market district in Crystarium was named "Musica Universalis", among other musical references throughout Shadowbringers. It seemed… too intentional. Ultimately, I could have got a ton of views lol.

  7. I think the moon had a dual purpose. I feel Meteion tracking was the main purpose, but Hydalaen also prepared a possible failure in this by preparing her little bunny friends to transport lives off the "star".

  8. During the recollection of Venat's words in the boat, it wasn't a sound balancing issue (as one of chat commented). It's a crude, yet effective way, to emphasize the words she had spoken to you back then. (might be an Asian thing, we've been doing the same thing in stage plays).

  9. It really is insane how they re-contextualised Answers (the song) in that final cutscene. Or, more accurately, built the entire conclusion to the story around that ARR song, which was made well before this was all planned out. I think it does a great job of demonstrating that really good writing isn't so much about forcing new ideas into a narrative, but taking the existing ideas and themes, understanding them, and letting them write the rest. You don't manipulate characters – you just understand their motivations and write down what they'd inevitably do. The most compelling twists aren't artificially constructed – they just become "obvious" and inevitable as you explore more. When I did some creative writing, the most enjoyable part by far was when I just sat down to think about what my characters would naturally do in a situation and let myself be as surprised by what happened as anyone who would eventually read it.

There are always going to be weak spots, of course, where the writer's manipulative hand shows itself gently nudging the narrative in a certain direction in a way that feels less natural, but I think by and large FF14 gets away with it because those nudges are generally quite well hidden, and the resultant stories almost always feel worth the minor contrivances, at least in my opinion. Which is to say, as long as you want to, it's very easy to get immersed and not feel booted out by something "obviously" stupid or inconsistent.

It's been interesting watching your more analytical, theory-crafting, take on a lot of things, Kro, because you do often stumble upon areas where the story definitely could have reasonably taken a different path – or there's a bit of a hole that could do with a bit more patching up. It's certainly different to the way I experienced the story.

  10. Not sure if this count as spoiler or not,

I think I said this before in chat but Hydaelin and Zodiark can't entrall other. Emet include all other Ascien were never got entrall by Zodiark neither player or any crystal bearer by Hydaelin.

  11. I think you missunderstood 1 thing. There are more than 12 Meteion sisters. She has many, many of them. She only managed to tell us about 10 stars she visited before her report was interrupted by us

  12. Ah you're very close to the series of cutscenes that'll expose how much or how little of the Raids/Trials/Alliances you did.
I've seen enough variances to be able to point out the HW Raids/Alliances, StB Raids/Trials/Alliances and ShB Trials.
Eureka and Bozja too but those are entirely different beasts.
