I’m not an MMO person, normally, but maybe I can make a difference for the award winning game Final Fantasy XIV, with its free trial including gameplay up to lvl 60 and all the other stuff.

The symbols next to the mobs' name are meant to show whether they will attack you on sight or not (red or blue) and their supposed difficulty, but it's bit of a leftover system that doesn't see much use. All the same, if you run into a suspiciously high level monster (say, lvl 50 in a lvl 30 zone) with a red spiky icon somewhere it shouldn't be, it's best to avoid it or call for help. They are hunt marks and they pack a mean punch.
Light party is 4 people (allows you to have limit break up to 2 bars on bosses) and a full party is 8 people (allows limit break to go up to 3 and be really fancy).
Fun fact about the dungeon: back before they reworked tanking and dps classes had means to lower their enmity, the inferno drake fight was bit of a teaching moment. Brayflox occasionally grabbed the boss or the add and passed them to a dps, who had to use their skill to reduce their enmity so the tank could take the boss back. She still takes the enemies away from the tank occasionally, but thankfully she no longer sicks them on unsuspecting dps players.
I think the current format works all right for dungeons. There really isn't much to say about trash pulls usually, so keeping in the highlights is probably the best you can do. Later dungeons have some really neat setpieces and I can't wait to see your reaction to those.
Sometimes the items you have to hand over for quests have weird or quirky or straight up wtf flavortexts, so it might be worth checking them out for the occasional chuckle. I think the Goblin Cheese in particular is compared to "the warm, damp boot of a zombie after stepping in ripe chocobo dung".
It's really entertaining to see you react to the Titan questchain. Your reactions are truly spot on. It's a very questline, by design, which makes it fun to rant about that one time they made you run around to get the ingredients of a feast in your own honor, but very tedious to actually experience. Poor Drest tho, he and his very severe PTSD will make a cameo in one of the later sidequests.
A "Light Party" indeed means 4 people. 8 people is called a "Full Party"
[points @ Brayflox Alltalks] and that's MY WIFE! MY WONDERFUL CHEESE MAKING GOBLIN WIFE 🥰
but also "Things we do for cheese" should've been the last quest of Company of Heroes. it's so. STUPID.
also 👏👏👏 about the wine rant. couldn't be said more succinctly.
aaand I think Skyen missed my favourite ever Noraxia interaction. 😭
before I watch this, I just finished the feast quests on my alt, and my god they really are the worst part of ARR. I hope they aren't too demoralising for Skyen, because I wanted to quit my alt while playing it (but I can see Skyen made another video so that bodes well)
15:40 – I like you talking about the monster designs! Later dungeons have more plot-relevant moments, but a lot are still just things to do on your way, and if there wasn't anything specific of interest, you could just skip to say the final boss cutscene and that fight. It's usually pretty self-evident when a dungeon is going to have plot internal to the dungeon itself.
the funny thing is… THIS USED TO BE LONGER. I remember the Nunh had a few more steps in his approval process, and there's probably more I'm forgetting but ARR has been cut down in the fetch quest dept in recent years since it was a major falling off point for new player who wanted to get to the expansions.
5:18 – "What's that nuclear radiation symbol?" It's technically supposed to mean the enemy's strength, but it frankly doesn't matter a whole lot. Blue/white ish means passive (will only attack you if you attack it first), whereas red means aggressive (which could mean either sight/sound/blood/casting aggro).
One thing you didn't notice when fighting Aiatar (the big dragon at the end of the dungeon): It gains a Regen effect so long as it's touching one of its poison pools, so you want to drag them out of those.
I know most people don't like the Company of Heroes questline and it's easy to see why. It's long, doesn't add much to the lore, and you are collecting food. HOWEVER, I was really touched at the end when you get told they were putting the fest together for you. It's silly, but it made me feel important in the game.
So I finally caved in to impatience and got a membership so I could watch more right away.
I really feel you on that bit about playing games, pausing for a week or two, and then feeling compelled to just restart when you finally come back to them. I have a massive pile of unfinished games for that very reason.
Dungeons are real simple now, and for the trash mobs between bosses they pretty much always will be save for the occasional impressive visual sight. The further you get into the game though, the more interesting the boss fights become at least as they get more interesting mechanics.
I mentioned this in the previous video, but the Company of Heroes storyline is considered the low point for the entire game's plot. It'll take some time still, mostly once you complete the initial A Realm Reborn launch storyline, but the story writing does eventually get genuinely good. Not just 'good for an MMO', but 'good for any RPG'.
Lastly, the reason the prelude is playing in Limsa is that, at the time of your recording at least, an event called The Rising was going on. In-lore, it's a remembrance for those lost in the Calamity, but out-of-story it's an annual anniversary event to celebrate the game's relaunch with A Realm Reborn.
I know that I'm in the minority here, but I actually really liked the Titan questline. The mundanity of it all is comic gold, but more than that, I like the steady buildup to the battle with Titan. Just running in and punching him in the face would have been nice, but then Titan would have been immediately forgettable. Nobody who plays this game will ever forget Titan.
I find it a shame that it was cut back, personally. In the original version, you had to do multiple steps to get the Adamantoise egg that involved disrupting patrols looking for poachers and the like and lightly messing with the ecosystem so that you don't get caught breaking the law. And with the U tribe, you had to do several quests to earn enough renown with the tribe for the Nuhn to even deign to speak with you.
Like I said, I know I'm in the minority here, but I felt like it added a little more to proceedings, like each step you completed had weight to it. Like it took genuine effort to get these ingredients.
But yeah, anyway, love your series Skyen! Hope to see much and more of it
Turns out the rich asshole that wouldn't appreciate the wine and feast was You! 😛
Welcome to what is easily the worst quest chain in the game. Thankfully you're past it now. And this is after they trimmed it down to shorten it — it used to be nearly twice as long.
24:39 pff BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh poor Bricc.
The pre-Titan quests suuuuuuck. No matter what, they always seem like a waste of time.
I'm so happy for another episode!!! This is my favorite series to watch on YouTube right now so I'm always eyeballing my subscription box for when a new episode drops.
I hope you don't miss The Rising event!
51:21 And here we can see a typical Gamer™️ expressing his atheist goals

Oh just a little note about the first part of the video, It is currently the celebration of The Rising, aka ARR Release, also the "aftermath of the death of 1.0" also the in lore 7th Umbral Calamity
Ah, FF mailman simulator. "Can i stop being nice and just beat it out of him?" You would like the dark knight class quests. But yeah, the ARR fetch quests suck. They slow down when you get to heavensward a bit.
On your comment of Limsa having different kinds of music and fireworks, that's to indicate that a seasonal event is going on. Stuff like their Halloween, Christmas, Chinese New Year events, and so on. Every city has a section that they will redecorate with the "look of the season" and change the music to let people know there's something special going on, and that plaza is Limsa's spot while Gridania has their Amphitheater and Ul'Dah has the stairway market just outside their Adventurer's Guild. The particular event going on in the video is called "The Rising," which is the game's anniversary (contextualized in-game as a remembrance ceremony for the Calamity). If you ever see something unique going on in that plaza that means there's a limited-time event going on that offers unique stories and rewards. Those events almost always start with an introductory quest in one of those 3 areas in the main cities, so if you ever want to participate in them you should check out all 3 cities' locations when you notice something special happening 🙂
You should really do you're monke quests.
The current event which…by the time you read this might have finished already….
grants a parasol, it's in uldah and contains a lovely mesage form the games' creator
the upcoming event meanwhile is a crossover with ffxv
and will allow you to use the gold saucer points to buy a specific mount with 4 seats
which is great cuz usually multi seater mounts are much harder to get
i fear i may be too late for this information but: the waking sands scions have unique dialogue for specifically during the titan buildup questline, goes away after the fight, which are cool to read
I enjoy the comentary in the dungeons, always fun to listen to your impressions and lil' design insights! 😀
But I can understand that often times there isnt much to say, which is totaly fine
The poison dragon recovered health by standing on the poison pools it dropped all around the floor. Not only that, but the melee player was having a terrible time doing damage because the dragon was surrounded by poison.
Also, you have to get into the habit of moving the enemies out of bad stuff in general. Early on not many melees have positionals, but later on melees require to position themselves on the back or on the sides of the enemies to get the most out of their damage. If an enemy covers the floor with stuff, move it so it has at least the back and one of the sides free of junk so the melees can do their little dance around the boss.
That firework display is awesome.
Also thanks for humming to us 😂
… and then here's me strangely arrrroused by hearing that Nunh-voice.
ah yes, the title lets me know immediately how you are feeling about this arc 😅
This is very much where the struggle to fully recommend FFXIV to a good many people comes in, it's such a well put together game but even today ARR is still a bit of a struggle to go through depending on how willing you are to push through it. I'm just glad you have enjoyed it as you have, keep going- you're cruising along.
I saw the title and immediately knew ot was the quests leading to titan.
Oh Skyen, the Admiral may be Mommy, but she's not your mommy, you can't call her and have her sweep away bad questlines for you.
If you turn your axe sideways, you have a giant flyswapper, it checks out.
That PGL Lv39 is giving me an aneurysm
