Why I Quit Mythic Raiding in WoW to Raid in FFXIV

I once made the big decision to quit World of Warcraft and mythic raiding for good to pursue savage & ultimate raiding in FFXIV. I’ve seen many other creators making their own “Why I Quit WoW for FFXIV” videos and wanted to share my story, as I enjoy the game very differently from the general player base.

  1. Hi all, a bit of a late upload this week because Tuesday was my birthday so I took some time off. I am now the big 22 which means I have no more age milestones to look forward to! Hooray… Anyways I hope you enjoy listening to my take on the "why I quit WoW" videos, as I am not your average FF14 story enjoyer and have a bit of a unique perspective. Thanks for watching 🙂

  2. THIS, right here. As a veteran of WoW over about 8 years from Normal to Heroic to some early Mythic, and being in FF for 6+ (raiding for 5+ of it from Coil to Savage to some TEA Ultimate prog), you succinctly explained what I've had so much discussion with my WoW friends over. The amount of personal responsibility (BRD player here), compared to Fury (Warrior) in WoW is night and day, even if slightly biased. More focus on individualized mechanical punishment, plus as you said, the ability and joy to get off the gearing treadmill whenever I choose and yet not be punished for it makes XIV so great! Left WoW long ago, and only on 14 now…

  3. Only thing I really need is to find a good static or fc for ultimates.
Getting very close to 20 years in mmos played and over 50 of them played and i'm glad my skills I had as a Main raid healer in WoW(from TBC to wrath) and RIFT(the last 2 mmos I did any hardcore raiding in) haven't left me at all.

  4. This guy was in a CE top 100 guild? Cause actually getting CE takes a lot more effort than these ff raids. The one thing that blizzard is best at is raid design. Also 20 man raids are harder because 20 people have to be able to not make mistakes for 10+ min at a time. Most bosses will require all 20 people to be alive for dps checks. Also crucible of storms was release 3-4 months before EP so the timing was terrible that's why most guilds didnt kill the boss on mythic, the gear would be redundant.

  5. Much of what you talk about here is also why as a relax raid player I like ff14 more. I hated the feeling in WoW where I was forced to do stuff I did not enjoy and pugs caused me to much stress.

  6. This is the stuff I love most about FFXIV – there is something for literally everyone. Whether you're a hardcore raider, or you wanna play it like a single-player game, or you're a collector, or even a RP'er, there's deep facets of the game for each. Compared to WoW which is only catering to hardcore raiders.

  7. difficulty will always be subjective though, ive heard from both sides that the end game raiding is much harder than the other, just because someone found it easy or hard , doesnt mean someone will also find it that way

  8. Great clickbait. "Just take my word for it, I'm a Mythic raider guys". Instead you delete any reference of you ever playing WoW, seems kinda suspect. I guess self-exposing would invalidate the title and not attract as many viewers. Any actual Mythic player, and with that I mean full clear CE player, would show his logs and not hide it.

  9. I was a mid-core raider in wow back in the day, getting server firsts in cata but imo none of those raid achievements ever felt as rewarding as clearing savage content in xiv. (Except clearing lich king, that was about on par with finally beating twintania lol)

  10. This is such an incorrect and convoluted opinion. 8 man raids are automatically more difficult than 20 because you have more pressure on you as one of 8? You mean you have to actually do the tactics instead of just be a follow along dps? When in 20 man if a few ppl die the raid is over… 20 people need to stay alive and do the tactics.. ? Why is it that every raid in this game is a big waifuu standing in a circular arena? Its so stale/boring. When it boils down to it, getting gear is the most exciting part of an mmorpg, and if farming a raid is for getting cosmetics and mounts to dress up your waifu, we can understand why most casual wow players are switching.

  11. So I played ff14 when it came out, did everything but savage coil because my team at the time didn't felt like it, i beat gordias and sold my account, never looked back. Went on to play wild star, and then did mythic raiding at the end of WoD and then all of legion and fucking loved it. Quit BFA becauseit was fucking awful and shadow lands while it was a little better than BFA, still bad and no longer the game for someone like me, who can't put 40+ hrs a week.

So I came back to this game. Trying to pay attention to he story now but there is A LOT of dialogue, so I'm skipping everything except anything with voice over, I'm at the end of storm blood and so far so good. I'm excited for endwalker

  12. So, I only do savage raiding, because ultimates scare the shit out of me. I am content with having beaten all 12 bosses of shadowbringers and knowing I could perform well enough, even though I switched from DRK to MCH at the end of second tier.
I appreciate your insight and have to give you credit, because ultimates are, as you said, the hardest content ever made. If I had to do 20 minutes of E12S Phase 1 mechanics, mixed in with some Shiva for good measure, I think I'd go insane.

  13. Seems to be very in vogue to downplay WoW raid encounters lately among FF players. Not sure why that is. They are very different from each other and what they test of your raid group and both are really fun to do. Very similar to how class design philosophy is a lot different. The prime difference is WoW having a lot of side progression systems that make you feel like your doing chores while FF respects your time more (also way better community). The que right for 1 fight with no trash is great in FF (also the community is 1000% less toxic making it pugging a lot less painless).

  14. Also much more fun when you dont meta slaves kicking you out or if your not running the same gear and rotation. Have to love that awesome wow community.

  15. lets call it what it is, raid fights in ffxiv are dancing simulations, they are very different from most wow fights. pick your poison. ALSO if u plan on healing, ffxiv healing is objectively worse, dmg patterns and the amount of ogcds u have just mean 90% of ur gcd or even higher, is spent doing a very stupid dps rotation, unless ur ast. as a sch, ur just pressing one button for most of the fight
