Did she get more hate than she deserves, or was it all warranted? Ultimately that’s up to you to decide!

I think Lyse is a fine character but the problems come because the story focuses to much on her with out other characters getting much screen time. I think what makes the doma parts of the story better is it has a more focus on more characters not just hien we also get gosetsu and yugiri. What makes shadowbringers good is it focuses on not just Thancred and ryne plenty of characters get their moments. Well that what I think sorry about any names I butchered.
I dunno I still like her, especially more so the expansions after Stormblood.
I personally think the issue with Lyse is that she was better as Yda. Not identity wise or anything, but as the foil to Papalimo. The two made for an enjoyable, if often forgettable, pair of the Scions. I always smiled or groaned when I saw the two in ARR, because I knew the comic relief had shown up. And that's not a bad thing. They were like the Scions own Bigs and Wedge in a way. But after the Wall and revelation of Lyse, it felt like all the joy the characters used to have just… left. Again, not a bad thing, but it felt like we were given a knockoff copy of a cheap but beloved joy to enjoy for the whole of Stromblood.
I think I agree with you here, I neither especially like or dislike her. Shes just there in the story. Come to think on it, I don't actually hate any of the characters in the game. Theres a whole bunch of characters which I really like, but when it comes to the opposite feeling there isn't really one. And I mean "out of world-hate" as in I hate what how the writers handled this character. Because I of course "in world hated" for example asahi, he was a good villain which I loved to hate.
Lyse is like Clara Oswald. All you know is that everyone hates her. You don't know why, you don't ask why, you were not consulted when this supposedly unanimous decision was reached, and it's awkward for everyone. Especially if you're like me and you want Lyse to step on you. Very awkward then.
I've always felt that Minfillia should of been the main character of Stormblood (or at least the Ala migo part) as she's the one with the biggest connection to it. But I think when they wrote out Minfilla they realised they didn't have a suitable replacement and haphazardly inserted Yda/Lyse into her role
I want to like Lyse, because who doesn't want to love the freedom fighting Monk girl who punches everything like you smooshed Sabin and Tifa togther with a dash of Char, but I just wind up not caring very much in the latter half of the content. They don't really let her do anything, including not letting her make important mistakes before becoming a leader to show her how to be a better one. She gets talked down to for trying to help because she'll only cause more trouble at the wrong time, which is important to learn but not something she learned by doing and growing. And then we get told she accomplished things that she didn't do on screen, just like with Yda. Add insult to injury in not even being considered one of your close companions to be brought over into Shadowbringers, especially if you're a player who's been with her since Gridania. The Crystal Exarch sadly winds up being written better as a close friend than Lyse in less time.
I’m passionately neutral about Lyse. I like her well enough but I didn’t click with her story like I did with the other Scions.
I like Lyse. Shes the only Scion who isnt at least mostly characterized from jump. She struggles with more relatable issues than just big scary stuff like primal and ascians.
So a lot of my issues were said in the video, but two issues not addressed were… I didn't care for the reveal that she wasn't Yda. It was out of no where and written like it was supposed to be this big reveal plot twist "You didn't expect it so it's a good twist!" No. Bad twist.
And a lot of Stormblood was spent with Lyse and forcing her in't a majority of the plot that she didn't need to be there for. A lot of it felt like whomever wrote it was trying to say "look at how cool she is isn't she cool?"
I will give lyse a slight pass for that Lakshmi thing because she doesn't want to assume that they are all tempered
I mean ananta beast tribe quest even some of them defecting meaning they still are themselves, even late shadowbringers shows that there are plenty members of the tribes that aren't tempered
also they do take measures in case they do try to pull something like putting guards outside the chamber(that may have been Raubahn's idea) its to bad they didn't know that some of them have been tempered
she does do something smart to try to fix the problem by getting Fordola to help
you can make the argument it was a problem that she created or that they could have checked if they were tempered beforehand (something we found out that Y'stola can do after the fact)
the other points about Lyse I do agree with her being naive and not doing anything to be worthy of leadership role
I think that incident was the devs trying to address those issues and I think they did a pretty good job
I have described Lyse as a "doofus ex machina."
Lyse reminds you of the incompetent office manager who keeps getting promoted despite repeated failures, poor decision making and general incompetence. Inequity makes people mad.
She 'ight
Never understood why people hated lyse until this video. I never really liked or disliked Lyse as a character. I always felt like she was a background character even as they tried to hype her up. Her "big reveal" that she was pretending to be her bigger sister was lost on me cause I didn't even know/remember she had a sister in the first place so when she goes "sorry for faking to be her" I'm like… "where was this develpment even hinted at". My issue with Lyse isn't that she's the same character she was from start to finish, it's that I feel like she's still trying to be two people at once. I feel like she's trying to be Yda while also being Lyse. She hasn't fully thrown away her mask yet, so to speak and that's why she's not leaning into any characteristics and why there's no development. IT's a huge problem narratively and also why she's simply a neutral character for me. They took no risks with her. Side note: If I remember right, she was kinda roped into bringing the tempered snake lady to the meting cause she still "owns" part of the land and she explcitly tried to take every precaution she could in the event of a summoning, though the method was the most unexpected
Lyse is just "eh"
She was a bland character with good development.
The problem comes up when you have to spend 10 levels with lyse, after spending the past 10 with Estinien
I understand the criticism of her actions at the summit, but what choice did she have? If she turned the tempered ananta away, it gives them cause to go to war and invalidate her claims of a united gyr abania.
The best option she had was to trust the castle guard to ensure nobody brought in aethereal crystals. She could not have known they were tempered and commanded to sneak some in.
A good vid and honestly change a few words and it sounds a bit like my view of the Scions "beloved" coin counter. A lot of what she does to help us is seen off scene and when she is in view she is either failing in an funny way or talking down to people in the right. My whole fc feels that removing her would only cut the fat. That and I'll never forgive her yelling about we need more money to find the scions as we are kneeling at Lord Haurchefant's grave. Personally I'm meh to liking Lyse. I feel she only see as the leader due to the devs wanting a familiar and pretty face for city state. With our fav Flame general back in his home land I now feel the nation is in good hands.
I don't have any issue with Lyse. In fact, she is one of my favorite characters in the game, sad to see her left the scion so early.
Lyse had a big pay off with no lead up to warrant it. It was pretty much a case of "cool story bro" and then we moved on.
Lyse's arc: Dumbass that gets unreasonably lucky and it just so happens to work out in the end.
Lyse isn't even really the problem with Stormblood. Her reveal is just the start of the beginning. Zenos also exists as one of the worst villains out there. Lyse has some slight tinge of characterisation and Zenos has no character other than being the antagonist for the sake of being the antagonist. He gets a small moment that kind of redeems his character before he dies, but that's basically it in terms for characterisation.
And then Zenos is further ruined as a character by coming back to life. He could've gone out as a mishandled character with good final moments, but the writers brought him back and invalidated and trampled on those final moments. After Stormblood he just ruins every single scene that he is in. And while everyone is fangirling about Endwalker right now, this expansion is not going to be remembered as fondly story-wise as its being regarded right now once people starts thinking about it.
Mentioning that both Zenos and Lyse were basically non-characters is what I would consider the 'beginning' of the problems with Stormblood's story. Because in the end every single story beat was botched. For example, I consider that a chunk of the Azim Steppe to be really cool story-wise, but its still mishandled and placed awkwardly into the story.
I mostly just dislike her because of her VA and mannerisms. She speaks and acts like a modern person, moreso than any other character in the game, and it's extremely offputting.
I absolutely love Lyse
to me it's far far better character like y'shtola and completely overshadowed her in SB, and that's why most people hate her really.
In SB she had a very important role of being a mediator between the Scions, Eorzean Alliance and the Ala Mhigan resistance, so i don't know why people find it weird for her to assume leadership role lol.
and the incident at the Ala Mhigo's incident she took every possible method to prevent the summoning of Lakshmi by confiscating their crystals jewelry
and that error wasn't only Lyse people like Raubhan and the Scions were also caught off guard.
Again people fail to make hate Lyse lol.
