About mounts and their skins…
Mounts are mechanically different from one another (and I find them all fun to ride), so they are not part of prestige quest rewards since everybody should get access to them. Some of them are harder to unlock, but nothing too terrible. They have tweaked things a bit so it's somewhat easier to complete the quests. Mounts differentiate from one another more and more as you start to get the masteries for them. During seasonal events there are races in some maps and you can rent different mounts to try them out. Without the masteries they are not fully unlocked, but you can get an idea of how they work.
The dark truth about mounts skins is that practically they fund the game… kinda. So you can only get like 2 or three mount skins through gameplay rewards. All the others are sold in the cash shop. Now that has a big asterisk on it since you can trade gold into gems (premium currency) and buy the skins or any item on the cash shop that way. You can get lucky and get a skin from loot boxes, but that it's super unrealible. The loot boxes in this game are not the worst, but they are still loot boxes, I treat any key I get from gameplay as a bonus.
The community formed around the game is nice in general, but you can always come across someone having a bad day here and there.
Guild wars has a loser sense of direction than most MMORPGS but in a sense that makes exploration of the game more enjoyable in my opinion. It is a matter of taste though, so try to adjust your mindset a little bit if you can and you will enjoy the game more. I jumped from GW2 to FF14 for a bit and it was so weird to get so funneled while doing the MQ, it is the most efficient way to open up all the systems in that game, but in GW2 everything gives you XP and some sort of progression. So one day you can try crafting, a different day you can try dungeons, or fractals or just completing maps. You can find some guidance on the achievement system of the game. But it is not mandatory.
Welcome to the Family. 🙂
6:04 I love to watch others do this part lmao
Awww, I love seeing fresh takes on GW2 ❤
As for your experience:
Yes! The community is good, dare I say the best, from my experience in mmo's and just so you know for sure that's not exclusive to you being a content maker; fresh blood means bigger numbers so we love on the fledglings.
The open world is a blast and it only gets better! Concerts in Grothmar (those Charr know how to party) and the comradery at end game levels is just as strong if not stronger as the first 50 levels.
There is a little bit of abandonment in regards to direction when you are new to the game, you are not wrong; while ANet has done a pretty impressive job of keeping the older content relevant ten years later, some aspects kind of suffered and how you were led through the game is one of them. Way back during the first couple of years, you did your personal story which took you to knew places and zones, there was no mounts – heaven help you if you weren't running with a class that could speed buff because you spent literal hours of gaming time just getting places that really aren't that far lol The "Living World" set up is different now, but originally it was live/dynamic content that would evolve and not be the mini-content it is now, so we also had that going on and that kind of led us along in a way that you really don't see now, but a yell out in map chat that you don't know what to do and you'll be inundated with assistance for sure!
As for prestige, no, the skyscale was the closest as it was the most difficult prior to Soto's release but mounts are not where prestige lies – that's something called Fashion Wars Hahaha! Skins and titles are where the real endgame is 😆
For example, Legendary weapons; there are three generations of them, the original line, those that came with the release of HoT/PoF and the EoD line; while all are bragging rights, the HoT/Pof line cannot be purchased from other players and require the most legwork of the weapons = the most prestigious. Just remember all that glitters is not gold, legendary gear sparkles, but so does some gem store skins and that is not prestige, obviously, anyone can buy items. Hanging out around the bank in Divinity Reach or Lion's Arch will start to give you a good sense of what makes a character enviable if that's what you want to know.
But for now? For now, slay dragons, join pugs for dungeon crawls, do some map completion, earn some achievement points, check out the gw2 wiki (and gw2efficiency) if you want to start working on a rare title or a legendary item (trust me, you will hit 80 long before you will have what you need for a legendary) and while the xpaks are definitely what you want to get, don't for get the living world, which has some of the best pve content in the game & welcome to Guild Wars 2!
Welcome to GW2!
GW2 is borderline pay to win, the best specs, weapons and mounts are locked behind a pay wall.
I have played wow, ffxiv, gw2 and many others. I am currently in GW2 and have played off and on since the game came out. Glad you are in our world!
Welcome to GW2. Hope you enjoy your time in Tyria. 😊
Cool to see you trying GW2, and very cool that you've generally liked the experience so far! I love exploring the open world and still find things I've missed after over ten years of playing.
The new player experience is pretty rough, the developers have generally taken a "No hand-holding" approach. That's nice over all, but having a little more structure early on would be helpful.
There was a "prestige mount" for a couple of weeks. For a few reasons it was pretty controversial and they ended up nerfing the process a lot. There are prestige items, but even they don't involve grinds or skill checks that compare to what other games demand. If there's a criticism of the GW2 playerbase, it's the resistance to locking rewards behind hard content.
It makes me so happy to see new players enjoying this game! I'll always be gratefull that i watched my boyfriend play one day years ago while he encouraged me to create an account myself. It's now one of my fav games. The community is suuuper nice also. I hope you keep on having fun and get all the mounts at your own peace while enjoying the process ❤ Path of fire has super beautiful maps and is super entertaining to explore!

Bro, you're new so you haven't noticed it yet, but the problem with GW 2 is the lack of raids and end game.
In FF 14, on the contrary, there is a dead open world and a lot of raids and endgame.
These games are such opposites of each other.
If you like exploration and don't play for more than an hour a day, GW 2 will be perfect for you, but if you are a hardcore player, you have nothing to look for here
It really only goes up from base game!
7:52 the 'dragon' mount (called Skyscale ingame) is tied to two different expansions. mounts were introduced with the Path of Fire expansion in 2017 and the skyscale followed pretty soon. the other flying mount is the griffon . ofc you need to be lv80 to acquire any mount for good but the game gives you access to the raptor mount pretty early these days, long before hitting lv80.
back to the skyscale or 'dragon' mount: getting it via the Path of Fire expansion is considered a very elaborate process. for newer players the devs decided to offer an alternative way. with the newest add-on Secrets of the Obscure they added an easier and faster way to have access to skyscales.
the mounts in GW2 are awesome. 👍 each and every one of them fills a very specific niche ingame making all nine different mounts very useful. have fun! 🖖
You can get the dragon as soon as: story after expansion 2
there are two more expansions and two more storylines after that… and more to come.
Some of the core story quests (like the beer) are trash, even though there are some pretty good parts as well… gw2 starts to get amazing with season 3 and continues to get better and better every new chapter.
There are like 2 skins for mounts that are more prestige but for the most part prestige is in legendary weapins of the 2nd generation and infusions…
or legi armor!
Questing becomes much better after lvl 80! But i feel what you said. Becouse i had the same feelings. Lets grind it all out!❤🎇
WELCOME TO GW2 !!❤️
Welcome to the game, a few things you complained about (like some some of the story stuff) is just archaic design leftover from 2012 when then main game/core released. Story experience generally really picks up by the time you hit the first expansion onwards.
The game locks story to every 10 lvls to make sure u are not going in underleveled for the story steps, also since the story will take you to higher lvl zones are you go
The lack of direction outside of the story is by design, the original vision was not the have players too locked behind the usual npc/fetch quests for everything (tho there still are those in the game), so the goal was to have people wander around and find the orange events/hearts around the map as things to do to get exp (and also as a result, draw people into spots to work together on said things)
Welcome!
About prestige, there are currently two mount skins that are locked behind game achievements and both are bound to the latest expansion SoTO. I wouldn't describe those achivements as hard or challenging, they're just a bit grindy but not even that much.
If you like obtaining prestigious items from end game or competitive modes, there are several options. One is the legendary armors:
wvw leggy: very grindy to do but you have to play wvw a lot so in a sense, it's challenging.
raid leggy: requires defeating raid bosses and doing some harder achivement during bosses. Plus a good chunk of pve grind there too.
pvp/fractals/wvw leggy backpack: still a mix of grind and challenge, where the pvp one is the more competitive as it requires to win several matches with all the classes (so if you don't like to try out various classes in pvp you may not like this)
Titles: maybe the most prestigious thing on gw2. They are earned by doing specific achievements. Sometimes they're very grindy, like "realm avenger" title. Sometimes they're locked behind hard group content, like the titles "leaves no hero behind" or "voidwalker", which is also the hardest to obtain at this moment.
There are more stuff, like chairs unlocked by completing some raid wing in challenge mode, or more legendary stuff like legendary amulet Trascendence. The game is so much filled with stuff that it's hard to focus on just one aspect xDD
And btw, don't get overwhelmed or burned out by trying to grind the best stuff in the shortest period. Take it easy and enjoy the relaxed pace!
Belcher's bluff isn't as straightforward as it could be, but I did find it fun when I got the hang of it.
Welcome to Guild Wars 2, where reaching max level and finishing the main quest is the end of early game. Mid game is wrangling up mounts and doing the expansion stories, and endgame is doing collections and getting Legendaries.
If you want to "do it all", I recommend picking up the bundle with all of the living world seasons. Those are episodic pieces of story released some time ago inbetween expansions. They come with a lot more story and often some cool additions, like more mounts, encounters, more ways to obtain gear etc. Season 2 might not be the most amazing one (I think it's the only one not fully voiced), but story picks up after that.
ffxiv is boring AF and Ive also the ultimate raids in it. Theres nothing to do since last summer until the new expansion comes out
Prestige on mount is only when you invest time to ride it like a master, Griffon or roller bettle is best example,. People do best time on rollner bettle race riding griffon xx
FF14 sucks
Don't know if anyone said this, but to get the siege turtle, the one you rode at 4:38 you will have to battle an open world meta called The Battle for the Jade Sea, AKA Soo Won. That meta will be one of the more challenging metas to obtain the siege turtle.
There are 2 major/big metas in the Tyria, they are Tequatl the Sunless and Triple Trouble Wurm. Those 2 metas will be completely different from what you seen so far. I encourage you to try them out.
The base game is the weakest part of GW2, hope you enjoy it even more in later parts.
If you ever plan on getting into PvP, as a fellow Mesmer main, pick another class to start with cause it's not gonna be fun. There are a couple easier builds especially for low rank PvP but in general people will steam roll over a new Mesmer player and you'll feel completely helpless unless you put in the time and energy to really learn it.
Everyone in the community agrees that the personal story needs to be padded out. I'm hoping every 5 levels. They just recently brought back the Season 1 story line so there is hope.
If you want something to get thats hard then go for the Dhuum set. It drops off of the hardest raid boss in the game.
Been playing mmos for over 20 years and gw2 community is the best i've ever encountered. Every single person wants to help, always. Raid academy helps organize raids for newbies, NEVER making you feel like you suck and always in the positive mindset. When you do WvW, you can join many groups and learn by playing
The goal of mounts was to have a purpose. In most mmos, mounts are all the same and basically just a collectible. But in gw2, every mount goes with an expansion and has a purpose. For example, you needed the jackal to teleport through desert. You needed the raptor to jump big cavities in mountain terrain. The glider is made for the jungle where you have to bounce from trees to trees. The dragon was added much later, which makes a lot of content kind of easy if you just fly to it, but playing it old school style is so much more interesting.
Great video – keep it up! Subscribed 🙂
With the latest expansion, they released the first non-buyable 'collection' locked Skyscale skin, it's honestly really nice. It's the Kryptis Skyscale
Doing map completion of the zones you're in is generally a great way to learn the game, earn rewards, participate in events and activities with others, level up, and have direction. There's always another vista to see, another heart to finish and to see what the heart vendors have to offer, there's always that "what's over the next horizon" feeling. Learning the game mechanics is easy with the wiki, which also has a wealth of knowledge and information on it, such as world event timers. Understanding boons, conditions, such as stacking intensity vs stacking duration and their conversion and corruption, is going to help so much. Example: strike damage, or direct damage, can crit but has to overcome armour, but condition damage ignores armour yet can't crit. There's so much more I'd like to say, but I'll leave it at this. I main a Reaper, Alabasdria Haruspex, and pretty much always play her. But my main alt is a Chronomancer, Bort Cosmo.
If you want to speed up the ride to lvl 80, without skipping … then do the achievements related to the story, most are straight forward , but designed to get you to experience different parts of the game while giving significant XP boosts. Also leveling crafting gives a huge amount of XP.
