  1. i look forward to them someday talking about having joined a random hunt train off stream to cap some tomes, that isnt as packed, and therefor doesnt kill everything instantly, and seeing whole groups just get obliterated by squirrel's and chameleon's mechanics ^^

  2. Hunts are so different then they used to be pre-world travel. On my old world my group of hunt friends were the prime S rank spawners, it took me 2 years to get the tiger mount for 2k s-rank hunts and that was with me being part of the main spawn group. Now you can get it in 2 months.

The introduction of world travel, and of hunt specific discords is really what cultivated the “hunt train” mentality. A few people will scout out all the hunts and then someone will ‘run’ a train. The speed of the train and the organization of the train depends on the ‘conductor’ sometimes they will flag just off of where the hunt actually is so it prevents people from insta pulling, some will run their train as if it’s a competition to be the fastest possible. Just depends who you get, and probably your DC.

Back when I was heavily into hunts you would just be in a hunt LS and people would call out a hunt when they found it and people would go, they were never as crazy either cause it was just your own world.

  3. So, some hunt train etiquette/points (at least for EU).
    1. speed of train says how things are flagged (fast = target is marked right away, slow = aetherite is flagged and when most players port, target is flagged)
    2. its usually best to go tank and put stance up, enmity adds to "participation" so you always get max reward
    3. if there is lot of players you should hold dmg, as tank you just spam ranged attacks (two tanks with stance up will generate enough participation by two ranged attacks for the whole party, others just need to touch it)
    4. if one person is teleporting you should not teleport, its confusing for the rest of the party
    5. if you are teleporting out of hunt, you write into chat something like "don't get baited, spending nuts", everyone will get baited anyway…
    6. yes there is aoe cap for enemies, it always picks you when you are about to die or undergeared
    7. you WALL when wall, you Grr… for Grr…, you Farlemald or some variant if the targets are far away from each other, no shark/gorilla facts please!
    8. you thank the conductor and the scouts

  4. Regarding animations, I've seen the suggestion that ff14 could add multiple animations for skills and allow the player to choose which animation to use during combat. This could be another way to customize a character, and another type of reward to earn in game. I think it would be a fun addition to the game.

  5. I was tuning in to the stream and decided to join in on the trains. Those were my first ones too and now I’m doing them whenever I can. The only time I see that many people in the open world is usually only during expansion launch so it’s nice being part of the sea of flying mounts

  6. you kept asking how do they know during the train, there are whole discords devoted to hunt trains. Players will go and find the a-ranks and mark when they're up, we know roughly how long it takes for them to respawn so we kill them all at once [in a train] and the person who's leading the train picks a route and may or may not use 3rd party tools or a pre-built copy/paste sheet to say where the next mark is. For the NA servers there used to be a bunch of discords but when dc travel was added pretty much just 1 server still runs it all

  7. I'm so happy that the boys finally got to do hunt trains! (I was in Garrett's first party.) One comment and one pro-tip.

Comment: When the DT benchmark dropped, there's a bit where there's a crapload of WOLs on their mounts going to a fight. To me this definitely felt like acknowledgement of the hunt trains, as that's the only time I see that many players descend like locusts.
Pro-tip: As a tank you can use Shirk on a party member to give them aggro … this is helpful if they're showing up a bit late and won't make it to the hunt mark before it dies. (I tried to tag Garrett a couple times this way on the early marks; not sure if it worked, but it usually does.)

  8. Come for the hunt train shinanigans, stay for the advisory against bad Christmas advent calendars. Wild story, I very nearly bought this exact one. So glad I dodged that bullet of AI hell.
