FFXIV is a game of many roads, but none of those roads are something that is greater than the others. Many MMORPG’s had a railroaded endgame model that is baked into its foundation. FFXIV deviates from this and provides the player with invaluable amounts of choice on how to choose their time inside of the game and each activity is given just as much love as the other. I take a closer look to see how FFXIV empowers the player to choose their own adventure.

Glad I found you, Chad. I enjoy you game play and commentary. Keep up the awesome work. 🙂
'extreme raid progression' huh? snicker
Deciding what to do is the true end game. do a bit of glam, followed by showing that glam off to the savage progression people followed by some fates.. for me its been making all the money in the known universe cause i gather materials and sell them to crafters and.. wellll its profitable
Oooooo.. sounds like somebody's fallin in love with FFXIV… 😍
Nyahahaha! Great vid ma-guy!
There's so much to do in this game, and I'm not in a hurry to do any of it. Feels nice. I have a long list of things I still wanna do even with MSQ done. The main one being I still haven't finished decorating my apartment, and I have a room in my FC house too that I haven't touched yet, both of which I bought pretty quickly after I started playing the game. Crafting/Gathering makes it so that I always have gil waiting around, which is nice since I tend to avoid partying up for dungeons and combat.
I believe that may be why I have heard this game referred to as an amusement park mmo.
You Mario glammed with the Power Ranger emote. Perfection 🤣
I really like these discussion videos. Keep up the good work.
Any time I feel pressured in FFXIV, it's never really because of any systems in the game. It's all social! Which can be both good and bad, depending on what kind of friends/acquaintances you find yourself among, if any. My friends push me to become a better player – whether that's because of their critique of my gameplay or just my desire to be more like them – or otherwise remind me that I'm better at the game than I give myself credit for at times.
Do whatever you want that you find fun, just make sure you don't surround yourself with vindictive or spiteful or selfish people. Make friends who will be there for you when that glamour piece doesn't drop for the 87th duty in a row, or who'll smash their faces into difficult content together with you and not rail on ya for your missteps as you learn, or who'll just hang out with you idling in Limsa Lominsa and talk about your interests! 😀
This game is setting a great example of how to reach a broader audience. Hopefully, more MMOs learn from FFXIV and we see the genre improve during the 2020s
Amazing video. Though I'd add one thing. Raid lore is really important for the story. Alexander, Coils and especially Omega. But yeah, you can literally do anything in FFXIV.
bin leveling crafters/gatherers… all of them… at the same time. have not touched a dungeon in days and somehow I Love IT! haha
In my opinion it wasn't till Shadowbringers that FF14 overtook FF11. I now cannot play 11 nowadays because it is hard to play casual if you want to do all endgame. FF14 just gives want you want, when you want. I used to hate this concept, but getting older I really appreciate that is respects my time.
To back up your point on the differences from wow,
I did the new endwalker extremes, did the new raid, got my gear, and at this point in wow you'd like "well time to unsub", but instead i made this massive megalist of materials to go gather all around the world across every expansion, so that after that,i could just craft all the items i needed and not bother going out to gather because i didnt have the materials.
Well laid plans sure do feel nice
housing is interesting. You can buy a room in FC house to play it by 300,000gil.
I myself am an FC leader and a casual. I can only log in 1 hr a day during the week and maybe 3 a day on weekends. This is at most. I dont ever try to do savage while it is current because I just don't have time. I love the game and community. And that is why I still play. For the new players that need a home and want to make friends or a family. <3
Extreme Raid Progression. Lmao but I totally agree with you. The devs wanted this world to feel alive and lived in, and not just a pretty backdrop to the things you are doing. And they succeeded in that by giving people the option to just relax. Because that's what playing a video game is supposed to be: relaxing
I do wish for more high end content personally but then Yoshida-san also made it super comfortable for me to only come back when there is high end content. I never really felt trapped because whenever I'm bored I can just stop my sub and come back when there is something to do. This is probably harder for streamers/professional raiders though.
I've been playing for 6 years since patch 3.1 and only recently I realise how much impact this game has on other people's person lives. So many MMO veterans coming to this game saying they're a lot happier as a person. FFXIV definitely sets a great example in the MMO industry what a MMO should be. While the MMO nature itself requires long term investment, it should not become a job. The fact that we are able to put the game down and pick it up again at any time is how it should always be. Too many companies are after profits and forget what a game should be – to bring joy and entertainment, so sad that nowadays most games are just used as mediums to milk the players until their wallets are dry and empty.
Very agreed. It's why I really hope YoshiP and crew keeps on pushing back any antics the heads above them might be trying to include. The latest post on metaverse and NFTs by the president of SE is a bit concerning. It is a sure way to lose that respect and good will they've built in these 10 years.
