Hardcore Raider Accused me of RUINING The Tanks in FFXIV

A Final Fantasy 14 Hardcore raider accused Xeno on stream of having terrible tank balance and design ideas and that he is partially responsible for tanks being bland and unfun (even thought in Dawntrail tanks are in the best state they’ve been in a long time). Xeno Reacts to this new drama.

  1. I played Monk and PLD for Savage in HW and loved it. I loved it because it was fun, I knew it was bad compared to other jobs but I still enjoyed it. If I were a hardcore player however I absolutely would not touch those jobs though.

Who is this random Tank talking wet without having a clue what the issues are. Just another crying baby because his job is getting changed.

  2. I want more healing for Dark Knight more so because that's the whole schtick of being a Dark Knight. I've always enjoyed the job identity of FF Dark Knights that they sacrifice HP to do more damage and when they do damage they absorb HP.

I don't know if that's what they were going for in HW, but I remember it was more about MP management back then.

  3. 30 seconds in, I hear the 4.1 warrior changes that I hate so much and already know for a fact it wasn't your fault. I now know the rest of this video will be hilarious.

Oh yeah, cant forget that 4.0 and 4.05 warrior are two different jobs basically with that stupid gauge penalty no one asked for.

  4. I'm in a weird boat because I agree with you as a dark knight main that TBN is lacking compared to its counterparts. But it is still very satisfying to use.

It needs changing but I don't want it to lose out on what makes it fun. At the same time I have no idea how to prevent it from being fixed without losing that fun factor. I don't personally like the idea of it losing its risk/reward factor, but that is a glaring issue when compared to Heart of Conundrum, Bloodwhetting, and Holy Shelltron.

Perhaps if it didn't have an mp cost and still gave you a free attack upon breaking?

I like that oblation and TBN are different buttons though. Perhaps Oblation could have a bloodbath type of affect put on it to give drk more heals and keep it in line with healing through drains?

  5. Rapid Fire TBN is kinda funny to me because as a Paladin I can Holy Sheltron myself, Rampart and Intervention the other tank on a Double Tank Buster.
I don't see the rapid firing TBN covering the both of us for how cool this unique weak ass ability is.

  6. I was a true and true pld and I didn't switch through HW, know what happened? I got kicked the moment I joined LOL, still soldiered on but holy shid was that painful, on the bright side I learned other DPS cuz I was so fixated on tanking as a PLD

  7. For some reason people are so hell bent that TBN must stay as it is so what about a compromise so everyone gets the best of both worlds.

They make a new DRK mit that is like BW, HoC and HS so DRK’s have better defense and healing.

And at the same time they keep TBN as a bonus mit if people want to go the extra mile to protect people.

This would give DRK in my opinion options to give more people protection while giving the TBN simps their precious button.

  8. Hey, so while I like TBN, it needs work. Haven't watched everything from all content creators but has anyone mentioned the option to just remove the MP cost of TBN and along with getting a free proc of oGCD for shield breaking, buff it with a buff called Soul Survived or something that grants a huge cure potency.. (probably about 600 cure potency) on this free use oGCD… TBN can then just convert any remaining shield into flat HP if you don't break the shield. This way you get healing in DRKs kit, which it needs, you don't waste mp hitting TBN and miss out on damage if the shield doesn't pop, but are rewarded still for breaking the shield. Of course this would boost the time of CD to 25 seconds to be on par with everyone else. This would probably be to strong admittedly and potentially better than the other tanks 25 sec mits… but not to sure on that as I am definitely not a high end raider or anything just a causal player that loves dungeons.. miss the days of abysal drain spam, and I doubt they will bring it back. Let me know your thoughts, and would be interested to hear what you think XenosysVex

  9. "So, if they made Bloodfest 1 minute and they lowered the potency of Lion Heart, it would not only mean that you would never have to worry about cartridges ever again going into a burst, which is fucking awesome, but it would also solve way more crit variance issues." – Xenosys Vex

Why would you not want to worry about cartridges? Cartridges are a Gunbreaker's bread and butter and playing around them is the point.

  10. W take, my liege!
Every job could be literally the same, just give them differently coloured VFX, differently shaped shiny weapons, like BDO has, and it's all good.
Some people in the XIV community are insane drama queens, drowning in even more insane levels of copium…

  11. I take issue with the bald man at times, but i have learnt over the last decade that you can take anything he says about tanks as gospel. You may love a job and be in denial, but he is still right.

  12. I think that the split they did with healers is a good way to maintain things balanced while giving differents ways to play. That's what i think they should do to tanka to. 2 tanks using more mit, 2 tanks with higher HP pool and lifesteal. That would also change how healers play.

  13. He's the type of person who says "I wish bard was a caster again", when they never played during that time. (I haven't either, but met someone like that.) Also, warrior is amazing now, imo XD but I don't main tanks, I just level them and then never touch them again lol

Edit: Also wanna say for that guy, sure Xeno has a big voice and big following. But he's not the only person who has these opinions. When I first started, it was like the first patch quests of SB released, no one played war that I knew. They played drk and pld. SE isn't going to change things for ONE person, so no, Xeno did not ruin war. The community agreed it was shit, explained the issues, and SE adjusted.

  14. I think HW balance will be good, cause a majority of players dont do savages/ultimates, casuals will have jobs with more identity/that are more fun, while savage/ultimate raiders will have to play meta, to me its a win-win situation, the only bad thing they've done in HW was gordias, it was a gear check and jobs were excluded, a8s/a12s tiers were very very good, hell they were even better than modern savage raid tiers

i dont think that balance is more important than identity, wow is a massive success despite the balance being way worse, why ? cause there is 50 jobs with different identity, while in FF14 we might have 5 jobs (1 tank, 1 melee, 1 ranged, 1 caster and 1 healer) cause they all play the same

ff14 has so much potential for pve content, but they keep restraining it, cause they dont want to hurt casuals who dont even do extremes content

  15. When I was listening to Sindalf on mogtalk I kind of got the same idea from his opinion. I think it’s just dated logic that has been kind of proven wrong in multiple games in multiple situations now. Having skills designed to work for 1% of situations might be a fun idea for 1% of the player base and can work in small games with a niche audience but designing skills to be useful in the most amount of content possible is clearly a better design philosophy which is proven in some ways now. I can understand the perspective though this person just doesn’t understand the perspective from a 1%er isn’t a good one it’s just a narrow one.

  16. I do think the game could use less homogenization cuz I think the classes play a little too similarly. Play one tank, you've played them all basically, the difference are numbers. I would love more Identity, but in the form of class mechanics and gimmicks, not… whatever the fuck this guy is saying.

    Little spitball example:
Two of drks biggest problems right now are lack of sustain are a boring, brain dead ass rotation and kit.

Let's look at warrior who's doing well on efficient sustain and Identity imo: bloodwhetting heals, attacks that are innately 100% crit will also crit heal under bloodwhetting (chaotic, Primal). Bloodwhetting only lasts 3 attacks with full uptime.

Okay, so warrior has short-lived high sustain and signature attacks. How can drk have that without outright copying it?

Well with how the game is designed, you're basically guaranteed to take damage at every 2 min window, and are most likely going to take damage at every 1 min window. What lines up on both of those timers? Scarlet Delirium, carve/drain, EoS spam.

SUGGESTION: take ANY OF THOSE THINGS, add a healing effect in some way, shape or form. Identity: dark knight uses dark magic attacks and shit to steal hp with certain attacks.

Done. Doesn't change how the class PLAYS but it solves the immediate problem before a rework.

Example #2: Oblation is trash. 10% for 10 seconds on a single target is a joke. It doesn't even really help for chip damage because it's 10% of CHIP damage. Sustain and Identity is still in question sooooo

SUGGESTION: Oblation gives the target health for every gcd the target lands for 6 seconds. That's about 3 gcds for most classes, and 4 or 5 for the very fast ones. Same identity shit as the first example.

Example 3: Living Dead. I personally think living dead after the rework is fine. Assuming you're full uptime, you shouldn't ever die now even without the healer playing attention, so it's like a "not-problem" imo but let's say it needed to be changed.

SUGGESTION: When damage is taken that should lower you below 1hp, gain Walking Dead. Walking Dead locks your hp to 1, healing on hit and any healing received from all sources is instead stored rather than applied. When walking dead expires, triggers Undead Redemption. Undead Redemption applies the stored healing all at once.
No auto dying : D, identity cuz it functions a little differently than the others but serves the same function

  17. 29:25 reason why the person blames you over the game creators the simple fact you act like a f**** snooty ass a**** towards everyone that has a bad opinion.

Negativity breeds negativity and when they already have a bunch of negative things in their thoughts their thought immediately goes straight to. "

"oh I remember watching this one video of this bald guy that's an a**** b** about things in my games that I liked that they implemented so now my negativity is going to go towards that person"

Plus there's been many times where I popped into the game after being away from it from a huge hiatus come back into it and then just see all the stuff that I used to know has been changed which annoys the living hell out of me but I know better than to say that he was you that caused all this because it wasn't.

Do I wish jobs were separate and felt more unique? Hell yes I want my Dragoon to act more like a Dragoon instead of just being a basic line fighter that just occasionally allows me to do the jump. I would love if my abilities felt more like I was really harnessing the power of the Dragon.

But if that happens then it wouldn't be so much fun and it will excommunicate me from jobs that can just do a whole bunch of stuff. For long while I avoid machinist because I was always told that machinists was absolutely terrible.

Only after the changes that it went through in End Walker did I actually pick up the job and play around with it and had some fun. And yeah some of the buildings I can point out being like the robot that you get is pretty much just Dark Knight ability.

But the job is still fun and I had fun playing it and I was not told that I wasn't allowed to do dungeons trials even if you raids. I was allowed to join all of that.

So yes I do agree with you that for the game to live on alive the jobs pretty much have to play exactly the same as much as I f**** hate it because I was there during storms blood and I remember seeing many charts and so forth saying that monk was the most terrible in monk was not allowed to join any raid whatsoever and everybody wanted ninjas

  18. As a brand new player to ff14(almost 2 weeks now) I am a warrior main, playing a little bit of GNB too sometimes, I unlocked DRK and didnt even play it, cuz it just seems like it sucks, I want the job to be buffed so I can start playing it 🙂

  19. I actually really liked 4.0-4.1's WAR but it was flawed and I think the current iteration is fun as well!
Only a few weeks ago I was also clinging onto TBN being good, but doing the savage tier and with all the other… questionable changes to DRK its really made me realise just how bad of a short tank cooldown it is… it was really good on EX1 during mountain of fire because you could get 2 TBN's while other tanks could only do 1… but it's still just a 25% shield that cost mana while the other tanks have a 20/30% mit on a 25 second cooldown with extra benefits like self sustain while DRK just… doesn't T_T

  20. This video made me wonder what they'd think about my balance decisions as a a more casual player. Like how many jobs have far to many actions you have to bind, some that should be combined or just removed completely.
