I've been arguing on and off with people about the new changes, my stance on it hasn't changed. The new DPS abilities don't add anything substantial to the job and they only clutter it (more weave bloat in the downtime, more filler with Double-Down). Heart of Corundum and 2 charge Aurora were the only real additions to the job.
Xeno, please tell me where you got those cool backgrounds. I want one of each job 🙁
A part of me wonders what the raid difficulty is going to be in terms of outgoing damage. Everyone has so much more mit now.
I like Continuation (and love GNB), but I don't play at the same level as most of you. Not even close lol. Gunbreaker helped me get over my anxiety and switch to tank main in the first place but since I mostly stick to normal content I don't run into job balance issues the way others do. Still love Xenos' thoughts though because I'm always intrigued by how the other types of players feel about these things. Just because I don't do Savage and Ultimates doesn't mean I'm not interested in how those players are liking certain things. Knowledge is power.
How about primal weapons for GNB?
I want a 40 minute rant about dark knight next
When I played dancer had 100 ping, so if I got a feather and tried to use the feather as soon as it came up I'd clip. Won't burst strikes continuation do the same thing to high ping people with no high ping option? Btw have like 20 ping now lol.
heart of corundum makes superbolide even better since you can have the excog up and proc as soon as pressing bolide, really great. Edit: anyway I'm mixed too on the dps changes because I like the idea of continuation on paper, I hate it to use it and honestly always hated playing GNB because the dps widnow feels too much busy for my tatse, tbh I think you helped me put into words the issue, the fact that your weave windows are ransomed by continuation is the reason why I don't like it
Continuation eating up that one oGCD slot, forcing me to plan defensives ahead of time, and forcing me to be extremely precise with my movement, is what makes GNB more fun for me than the other tanks.
I don't remember a fight that would need quicker movement than twinny in UCoB though, between dropping a neurolink and the liquid hells right after. And GF is not an issue there (or rather, was not an issue there while we didn't push her below the HP-threshold to drop the link yet). And I doubt they'll put fights in that require more movement.
And recent raids have… been low on tank movement, mostly been placing themselves for mechs. If that trend continues, then continuation will only be an issue for movement on paper.
The only fight I can think of where movement with continuation currently might be a little spicy, is TEA, but that is hearing from others, as I did not attempt that fight yet, so can't judge it. Maybe if I do that it will change my stance on it, maybe it won't… I'll know sooner or later.
So personally, I think that these two issues are being blown out of proportions by most people. They are objectively there, but nowhere as bad as most people portray them as.
PepoG . o O ( Pepega )
wouldn't trust a GNB to be offtank that's for sure specially at tankbusters.
Dude, do you not play Gunbreaker much? Your complaints on Continuation don't make sense. You can use most of your skills without it having a negative effect on Continuation or your Gnashing Fang combo. You can slip in Nebula, Rough Divide, Rampart, Danger Zone, Bow Shock, or any of those things in between. You've got 10 seconds to have to use the next skill in the combo.
About only things that will mess it up is if you use another combo ability. So going from Gnashing Fang to Demon Slice will exit the combo. I forget if Lightning Shot affects it, but not like that's a common usage once you're in a fight. The same will be with your Burst Strike combo which is a standalone thing. You'd use it to hit the boss like you mentioned, pull it back while using your tank mitigation, then you'd follow up with Hypervelocity.
When talking potency, look at current. Burst Strike has been 500 potency while Gnashing Fang is 450. Obviously the difference is one is the beginning of a combo while the other is standalone. I mean, Gnashing combo is one cartridge for 6 skills (Gnashing Fang – Continuation – Savage Claw – Continuation – Wicked Talon – Continuation) for a total potency of 2,490. They have a 30 second cooldown on that. In comparison, you are able to pop Burst Strike on demand so long as you generate cartridges. It was lower damage per cartridge but it had a lot of damage potential outside of that. Now in this next expansion, they are adding another potential combo to extend that potency/damage for on-demand usage. The damage is ridiculous and very easy to squeeze in. Having so many things on oGCD is where it flows best.
As to your "need to extend No Mercy to use all their cartridges." Yeah, that shows you don't play GNB much at all. They fly back to back, basically like it's all oGCD. If you're struggling fitting it all into the 20 seconds, I'm not sure what to tell you. I've never struggled squeezing in my whole rotation in that time.
____
Oh, lastly. when you say Bow Shock is garbage/filler, you never looked at how potency works have you? Bow Shock is instant 200 potency to all AOE. Then 450 potency from the DoT ticks. So 650 potency AOE, not too bad. Sonic Break is immediate 300 potency ands then 900 potency from DoT ticks, so that's 1,200 potency. For "fillers" that's some really good damage. Of course, each tick can crit, so that can go up there a little more.
___________
Lastly, you do realize that GNB lets you like double weave consistently, right? Squeezing in your tank mitigation is simple and will hardly ever have any negative consequences on your dps.
____
I mean, am I misunderstanding what you're saying or somehow missing something?
I feel like, personally imo, gnb is more an off tank and dps then a main tank.
Can gnb main tank, yeah sure. It's got the tools to do the thing real well.
But like you said it doesn't feel right as the main tank.
Honestly though I'm happy all the tanks seem like they're playable.
So, I have no hard opinions or feelings in regards to the changes. And I don't even have that much criticism in regards to your take, but I keep having the thought that, if one were to give you the reigns of designing classes, you'd be a classical example of a player who maximizes the fun out of the game/job. There are other things besides class performance, such as fun, flavor and appeal. Though maybe I am simply missing a bigger picture that I am ignorant about though. (I am a casual raider at best)
Definitely agree with continuation being jank for a tank job, I know some people who think its cool and while it is cool it really has no place on a tank.
I agree with your assessment but counter that the idea of being overloaded with oGCDs is good for tanks wanting more of a rotational challenge. Planning defensives along with burst windows will obviously suck for prog but I’m sure Yoshi will ensure mastering encounters will have a great payoff. Or just make GNB OT as much as possible and not worry about it cause dungeons don’t matter 😎
Share your concerns about Continuation; felt it was at the borderline of acceptable in ShB but wonder how messy things may get in EW with it being tied to Burst Strike in addition to Gnashing combo.
I nearly shit myself when I first saw Heart of Corundum; FWIW the heal was popping for 11k on a tank w/ 65k hp (per footage in Rin's GNB media tour vid). If that's a general idea of what to expect…lmao. It does fall into the "don't mind the potencies" territory, tho.
Double Down ie another "only in NM" button doesn't bother me that much; I'd rather them axe Sonic Break, tbh. DD and Bow Shock are AoE, at least. Continuation on Burst Strike is gonna make NM windows feel super crowded.
…I'd be funny if he did Drk like ppl did Sch after the live letter, and just not make a vid or skip over it like their weren't any changes worth mentioning
Honestly GNB would be glorious if they focused on it's defensive identity. It's offense is flavorful enough, but the need to work on their tank skills to actually justify GNB as a Tank and not a DPS.
Honestly I wish they were more barrier focused like DRK as it would make more sense. Actually I think they could reorganize the Travis like they did healers. Categorize them as either MT/OT, physical damage/Spell blade, block/parry, HoT/Pure heal/barrier. That would clean up the tanks imo
I understand well enough high end raiding and prog, as well as personal prog. But if the fights are tuned to require LESS than the maximum potential potency a character can output, and the rotations have a clear intended flow, and the difference between the maximum potency output and the intended flow is not enough to make or break the encounter… could we not simply try the intended flow and work from there? After the first two weeks of prog it seems like all the cursed shit these classes seem to have is self inflicted no?
Endwalker Gunbreaker is gonna be weird as hell. If you want that last burst strike continuation to fit in No Mercy you'll need 2.37-2.38 GCD and perfect ping. I love the job and I'll stick with it but it's way too busy. I'd rather Double Down have Continuation instead of Burst Strike.
Based on Larry's footage it looked like Catharsis of Corundum healed for about 10k out of his 64k health pool. (Check his video if you want exact amounts.) That's a pretty sizeable chunk of health, and is probably about on par with an Excog. Obviously this could change, but if it is a pretty beefy heal like that then this ability's going to be insane for how short its cooldown is.
I agree with the continuation stuff…I wish they'd add some range to it for movement purposes. I like Continuation and I understand how GNB just has to pre-pop their Defensive CD's before their burst windows if a buster is coming up, so that's not an issue, but I did run into movement issues on GNB with it.
As someone who plays gunbreaker to press a lot of buttons im very happy to have continuation on burst strike. All the buttons that go into no mercy window is the reason I play gnb and not boring warrior.
What about the fact that Lightning Shot won't fuck with the combo anymore so you can still do stuff while you're kiting?
GNBs defensives require quite a bit of planning and poping ahead, thats why I kinda prefer being the off tank (selfish dps). The new rotation planning might involve when to sonic break and double down so you can weave in defensives or move the boss easier?
I know it's a cop-out but to me the solution to all of GNBs oGCDs is just to make them the new dedicated OT. HoC is fucking bonkers and even better on someone else with Brutal Shell, and I'd personally rather have that + Holy Shelltron as MT than my own HoC + Intervention (not that that's any bad either)
so heart of corrundum works if you superbolide, right?
1200 mmmmmmmm big number
Buffing Superbolide was a great decision.
Hyperveolicity should just be a ranged attack as well
