  1. ShB is when i finally called it quits to go play a real mmorpg. ffxi.

ffxiv has been riding off of new players trust me bruh. You will notice after a expanion or 2 that its just the same shit and a a new group of players. But there def is a core group of toxic positivity players. Also didnt ffxiv just break its concurrent players since 2.x lol. and this is the worse one beccause dawntrail was never a shake up, or a change in formula, a new starting point.

it prolly broke concurrent players finally because yosheep is trying to bring back its core mmo players with the FFXI raid. So everyone from 1.x/2.x finally came back to realize nah nothing changed when it comes to mmorpg gameplay.

  2. Being gay in gaming Fine
    Being lesbian in gaming Fine
    being Bisexual in gaming Fine
Being Queer in gaming also Fine
Now Being Trangender in Gaming that is where people Flip their lids that is where people decide that a game is woke because being gay bi lesbian or queer is more tame than being trans

  3. Intellectually dishonest, nobody really gives two shits the voice actor is trans with the exception of maybe a few weirdos, but again, nobody cares about them.

Ppl dont like the voice acting because its low quality. But its seems like the loud internet ppl are trying to spin it as if ppl dont like coz they are transphobes.

Its not the case, the quality is low, who the voice actor is irl doesn't matter one bit.

  4. when I was playing the story I was joking with a friend how people were going to claim this was woke because of wuk lamat and sphene. The fact it came true is hilarious LOL

  5. Yeah, as someone who has played for a few years now, you literally can’t avoid Hrothgar (large furry cats) and effeminate bunny boys wearing maid costumes everywhere you go lol. Conservatives are not playing this game.

  6. I just hate the story. The writing was flat. The use of beloved characters was superficial or simply leaned into cameos.

The VA for Wuk Lamat is fine talent, but the direction give was poor, therefore the characterization was also bad. Not the VA’s fault.

  7. wuk lamat is the worst character to ever exist in that game and believe me the english va is not the main reason for it.
I listen to the game in japanese only and even with an actually good va such as the japanese one she's still horrible as a character.

  8. to me this whole thing is hilarious. there is a massive amount of players who are literally trans(myself and my partner included) who've never felt more welcome, and yet the game is "Becoming Woke!!!!" because of a voice actress 😂😂😂😂

  9. I have a problem with the first half of the expansion because it's basically a story of how the current leader fixed the nation 80 years ago and going through the history. It was like saying all the crap we had to go through from ARR to EW to unite the continent was already done 80 years ago. Stakes were super low as well because of "spoiler of a solo instance"

I wasn't much of a fan of zone 4 as well, but I loved the last 2 zones.

  10. 5:00 She is an NPC though. All modern day misplaced connotations of the term aside, she is by definition a "Non-Player Character". And having played through the story of Dawntrail, in my opinion she is insufferable, both in the way she's written (a painfully naive, shallow, "one trick pony" kind of character who makes terrible decisions that somehow never blow up in her face, and steals all the thunder away from both you, the player, and the cast of established, much more competent characters.) AND the way she's voiced. Her VA being a trans woman has nothing to do with the fact that a huge chunk of the playerbase recognizes the delivery of most of her lines to be incredibly subpar compared to anything that's come out of FF14 in the past 6-7 years or so.

Yeah Grummz is a professional grifter and well-known dingleberry in the online space. Sometimes right about some things, but mostly hopping from one bandwagon to the next shouting whatever his audience wants to hear. But let's not now lump any and all criticism that Dawntrail and Wuk Lamat's voice actress gets under the misnomer of "transphobia", cause all it takes is a 5 minute highlight reel of Shadowbringers/Endwalker, compared to any part of Dawntrail, and it should be painfully obvious that the writing, as well as the voice acting of the most prominent voiced character took an absolute nosedive.

  11. I mean, i personally dislike Wuk Lamat as a character, both for the voice and lack of character progression, but the game isn't woke. Grummz took a wrong target. Everything looks kike a nail when you're a hammer.

  12. It's mixed because people were worried the story would be another Stormblood, which it kind of is, because the first half of the MSQ is very cutscene heavy and a lot of exposition. Stormblood suffers in a lot of ways but even by MMO and FFXIV standards Stormblood is not bad. It's just the worst of all the stories in the players eyes. Wuk Lamat is a contested character but not because she's "woke". There's a few character narrative flaws, but nothing too major.

She's also a woman. That might be a thing. You know, as it always is with Grummz and his moronic lackey followers.

  13. To put into context how popular this game is: When the last expansion came out, we had queues thousands of players long. 6 hour login queues for weeks. According to YoshiP, Dawntrail has beaten Endwalker numbers. Also, there's no queues this time, it's wild.

Personally, this expansion is exactly what I wanted. YoshiP said we were going on a vacation, and we pretty much went on a vacation for a good part of the expansion. Our seasoned adventurers are able to impart their knowledge on a new generation of adventurers/heros, and it's actually really really cool.

I do think some of the VO directing is bad. I don't think it's a Wuk Lamat thing, cuz she has some real bangers, it's the entire expansion and the WHOLE cast that doesn't have consistent direction.

  14. I'm level 95 MSQ, and there are some moments where I wish the voicing was done better, but it's not completely bad either. I've enjoyed the story thus far and am looking forward to the rest. Is the 7.0 MSQ perfect? No, but it's not as bad as people think it is.

  15. In my honest opinion, Wuk Lamat's voice acting in English isn't AMAZING. But it is far from being bad. Dawntrail's Voice acting in English in general isn't amazing. However, the Voice Acting is 100% serviceable and of good quality. Just not *AMAZING*.

I did find that compared to Endwalker's Voice Acting, Dawntrail's sounded a bit muted and devoid of feeling and emotion (in English). I do however agree that Wuk Lamat gets a bit too much of a spotlight, even if this is her story. It's to a point other characters that are important feel a bit sidelined. And a lot of people have negative views of what happens during the final trial of the story, as she kind of steals your moment to shine.

But there's no debate in my mind that Wuk Lamat is a great well-written character. And that her VA did a pretty good job, even if it wasn't jaw-dropping. Wuk Lamat was just a bit too much front and center all the time, to her own detriment, unfortunately. I feel as if people would like her more if she would still be the main character, while leaving more room for some of the other characters.

  16. Nah as a real player even I got fed up with wookie, especially at the end of the game where she comes back for the final part while the JP voice is full of anger passion and emotion in america there’s not even an ounce of passion delivered in the line, its actually flat and when you compare the two side by side its clear that the JP dub makes wookie a likeable character. The ENG dub take in that fight sounds like it was literally the first take. I did skip cutscenes and I’ve been playing since 1.0 so i’m not gunna sit here and let you say i’m not a FFXIV player because my opinion doesn’t fit your narrative. I didnt like the American Voices, they really cheaped out on this expansion because EU ones are more expensive

  17. Here i want to say my opinion somewhere at least. I'm almost done with the main storyline of the game and Wuk Lamat although having poor dialog now and then Is an ok character at times and i actually really like her. Now that being said she says a lot of things then could be a little grating and wear you down over time and IT IS ABSOLUTELY TURBO AMPLIFIED by the English VA. She is Mid at best and terrible otherwise. A HUGE mistake on SE's part. I ended up playing the game in Japanese dub and had a blast with the remainder of the game. I think the casting of said VA has everything to do with SE's woke western branch. Which is exactly what we have come to know these woke companies to do. Hire based of woke metrics rather than merit.

Overall, IT IS ABSOLUTELY the VA. If you haven't started the game skip a bit of the starting quests and swap it to Japanese dub it's miles better then the English dub. Woke weirdos absolutely had a hand in the drop in quality BUT the game itself nor the devs "have gone woke". The expansion starts of a little slow but really picks up a little before the halfway point.

The game itself though? Oh Man! It's never looked better, the dungeons and raids are really cool, these are some of the coolest armor sets we've had so far and the classes i have got my hands on are a lot funner to play and feel SOLID. Banger tracks. It's good.

  19. Grumps is the most pathetic POS on twitter. He clings so desperately to his old fame as an OG wow dev that 15+ years later it's still in his twitter bio even though Blizzard wants nothing to do with him. I would feel bad for him if he didn't have a creepy fetish for anime girls belly buttons and had 'fans' send him cropped images of them for his birthday. He's a creepy little weirdo.

  20. it doesnt matter if something is "woke" if the game is good.
but i noticed wuk lamats VA being worse than the rest of the (brilliant) cast way before people told me about the trans thing. I like that her accent helps to sell the idea that she comes from oversees. And the quality is fine for the most part, but especially in the final boss fight her performance is rly bad.

  21. Trans or not, the voice acting for her sucked, and I kept it in Japanese since I like those voices better anyway. Definitely put it in Japanese for the new 8 man fights, it's so much more fun lol.

  22. These are the same dumb assholes crying about a mermaid being not white I bet. But like, consider for a moment a large big cat lady existed and could talk. She wouldn’t sound like Selena Gomez because the large big cat lady has a larger vocal cord. Take two trumpets, make one a different size, one will sound deeper than the other. Read a book for fucks sake.

  23. I've been playing since before ARR – I have the original collectors edition. I am not cis. I am not heterosexual. Wuk Lamat's voice actor was not great. Their performance WAS flat throughout the whole thing and the character is very boring over all. I didn't skip cutscenes, and I didn't rate the expansion based on one VO. The part that sucks when a trans person is given an opportunity like, and they aren't great – you can't as a member of the community – have a dissenting opinion. It's annoying to say everything was great when it wasn't, just because a person is trans.

  24. As a longtime FFXIV player, there are unfortunately very vocal pockets of players that are incredibly intolerant. My first FC experience resulted in me leaving over transphobia directed at a good friend of mine and my second FC broke apart because the two leaders were into Qanon.

With that said, people are being incredibly unfair to Wuk Lamat's voice actress. If you listen to her audition tapes, she has INCREDIBLE range but she was likely giving very little direction in some scenes, major or otherwise. During a major moment, she sounds flat and I imagine that she was given very little context for the scene to prevent spoilers or leaks.

Lamatyi is a lovely character whose growth that I adored seeing.
