I’m not an MMO person, normally, but maybe I can make a difference for the award winning game Final Fantasy XIV, with its free trial including gameplay up to lvl 60 and all the other stuff.

  1. So as you're nearing the end of the base game for ARR (you might possibly encounter it the next time you play even), I wanted to post a spoiler-free warning of sorts, as the finale can be a bit of a clusterfuck if you're unprepared.

The final dungeon is an 8 player dungeon that is extremely cutscene heavy. The cutscenes are unskippable so new players can experience them without getting abandoned (they weren't always but that's a miserable story for another time), but they will progress on their own regardless of settings, even though half of them aren't voiced. So since you're voice acting all the dialogue, I thought I should warn you about that. The cutscenes alone will tally 40+ minutes, and that's not counting the actual gameplay part of the dungeon, so have some time set aside for a fairly lengthy finish.

More than that though, it's very easy for a new player in the final dungeon to get lost. Pretty much everyone in the group will be overgeared and experienced, which can lead to them rushing ahead and new players who fall behind can struggle to keep up and really take in the sights. As such I highly advise taking advantage of your FC if possible to try and have a full pre-made party of 8 if possible. It'd let you control the pace more, and I'm sure the friends and fans in your FC would be more accomodating to making sure you don't get left behind.

Lastly, because every player is so overgeared, what is supposed to be an epic final confrontation often… isn't. Bosses tend to melt within 30 seconds and you barely get to see anything of them. If you succeed in getting a full pre-made 8 man party, one thing you might want to consider is going into the duty finder settings and applying the 'minimum ilevel' setting. Doing so essentially nerfs everybody's gear for the duration of the dungeon. It still won't be difficult, main story content is typically designed to be fairly forgiving so that all players can experience it, but it does give it a bit more of a bite and lets the bosses live long enough for you to get a proper feel for them. In fact, I would go so far as to suggest doing so for all normal difficulty trials/raids from this point onwards… though I'd avoid doing it for any extreme/savage difficulty content unless you're a masochist. I'd also avoid it for the Coils of Bahamut which was predates when raids came in both normal and savage difficulties, and thus is essentially savage difficulty by default. This is all merely a suggestion though! Certainly not something you have to do, just an option I felt I should mention ahead of time because it's not one everyone is even aware they have.

  2. There's a lot of debate about the "my quarters, one hour" thing, but later writing gives very good reasons that it is /not/ sexual in nature. It's also a bit of a victim of the ARR writing being fairly rushed compared to later story, and they kind of just roll on with whatever interpretation best suits future lore for future story.

  3. Seconding Gizen's comment that it would be great to get as many FC people as possible for Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium when you get up to them (which is soon). It's dealt with in a strange way by vet players, and that isn't necessarily the most fun for you (ie. skipping battles, deliberately rushing the whole thing) even when the cutscenes are unskippable. And there are TONs of cutscenes. Having the FC with you to let you set the pace could be less stressful for video making, and give you time to react to cutscenes before we head into the next one.

  4. Hey Skyen! You can "lock" your hotbar-skills with the lock icon right next to your bottom most hotbar, preventing stuff on the hotbar to be accidentally (re)moved when clicking them. When you want to move the skills around again, you can click on the lock and unlock it.

  5. Oh, Skyen! I should warn you of something!

After beating the Stone Vigil, you've unlocked the first set of the daily beast tribe quests! I highly recommend doing them, because they give some more insight on the beast tribes themselves, and goes a long way to helping establish a major theme later on in the story (although it's by no means a requirement).

You can start them at each of the three Grand Company Headquarters and at swiftperch (although the Ixal beast tribe quests are crafter-related, the others are combat-related).

This is purely optional, of course! Don't force yourself to do dailies if you don't want to, but I personally really enjoyed the stories.

  6. Welcome to Mor Dhona, the end game hub of A Realm Reborn. Has merchants for (then) end game gear, level 50 crafter stuff and other post ARR base story stuff.

It's also one of the few zones that can't be experienced in it's original way. Back in 2.0 days Mor Dhona was lot less build, less stone walls and paved roads. Then it was build up bit by bit during 2.x patches, until reaching what you see there now.

  7. 40:30 yes, this is the event car! but the thing is: you can't reach the event itself without finishing ARR; thankfully, the event is not ending until 18th of October, so you've got plenty of time left.

also I'm super happy you showed us last ep that you got the polar bear mount from the seasonal event, the music accompanying it is my favourite 🥰

  8. The White armored female Garlean is essentially Gaius' adopted daughter and while the writing does imply her having a crush on him, the reverse doesn't seem to be the case based on later content that flesh out Gaius' personality more. It seems like there was possibly sexual implications there originally but that isn't the case anymore and the line is more of relic of the original intentions left there since it doesn't spell out that original intention and could technically mean something else.

  9. They have actually done more the one fanfare for quest completion however it's 1 per expansion, so ARR has one, HW has one, StB has one, ShB has one and probably EW will have its own one as well.

  10. The Regalia (the FFXV car) is not quite an award, but you can unlock the ability to purchase it from the event vendor in Gold Saucer for 200,000 MGP only after completing the FFXV crossover event happening right now. However, as someone else pointed out, you can't start the event until you complete ARR (specifically, be level 50 and complete the quest "The Ultimate Weapon"), which you look to be pretty close to completing! I hope you have enough time left to complete ARR so you can do the FFXV crossover event and get the Regalia on time. You'll also need to do a lot of MGP grinding in the Gold Saucer to get that 200,000 MGP needed.

  11. Hey, skyen!

I've enjoyed watching your ff14 journey lately, and I think I started playing it around the same time you did! On the topic of mmorpgs I was wondering if you ever tried Guild Wars 2? The game has put a lot of love into the customization options and animations that were done for its playable races, it's always struck me as a game you would appreciate digging into 🙂

I imagine you are quite busy with all the other series you have got going at the moment though, but whenever you find the time I would love to see your take on GW2!

  12. One thing that you notice about gaius is that…while he is definitely aiming for a dictatorship, he also believes that all people regardless of their origin, species, gender etc can prove their worth, being garlean doesn't mean superiority to him, which if you look at most other garleans later on will be even more obvious

  13. The part about "My quarters, 1 hour" is a scene that quite honestly is very much an "out-of-character moment" for Gaius' character, with him treating his subordinates otherwise quite well, allowing them to rise through the ranks even if they're not native Garleans (like Rhitatyn, a noticeably Roegadyn-sounding fella), as well as leaking information on Project Meteor to the Eorzean Alliance in 1.0 . Understandably, their relationship got retconned later when mentioned by other characters.

Gaius is still a warmongering bigot though, he's just a lighter shade of evil than his peers or even some of his own subordinates.
