Gearing is Pointless in FFXIV

Gearing is pointless in Final Fantasy XIV as someone who has played for a decade I’ve seen gear come and go, I’ve seen content creators come and go, I’ve had friends I loved to raid with play with me and then never log in again.

Gearing is factually pointless, the treadmill is always moving forward and there will always be something shiny and new at the end in Final Fantasy XIV. Patch 6.2 is bringing in a completely new raid tier and gear and so yeah let’s talk about gearing in FFXIV and what that’s all about.

  1. How about that Genji codex guys, impressive ammirite? Jk lol I raid for the experience and to have fun with friends. If all you're after is gear I genuinely cannot think of anything more frustrating than the futile never ending treadmill of chasing after gear.

  2. the only ACTUAL point of raiding is dyable gear. Bis doesnt matter because the ACTUAL bis for expac raids is the max cap before the next expac (for endwalker this'll be 660ilv). You can also just unsync raids that arent Ultimate so bis never matters. The ilv entry for endwalkers first dungeon is 505, ie, what you get from Paglthan. You never never need bis. It just makes things mildly easier.

  3. 3 years later – I still haven't cleared a single ultimate and I never touch current savage. Sadly – they are catering to the WOW refugees. They won't be in Final Fantasy forever. Thank you! huggs

  4. Not saying your wrong but people searching for bis each time are not wrong neither. Parts of fun of lot's of people is to find the best gear they can wear, the fastest way to go there or to find the perfect macro to craft things, in another word, the most efficiency to do anything. It may be not fun for everyone, it may be pointless because basics things works the same, but it's their fun and it's something we can't remove from them and we should not ashame them for that (not saying your doing it)

  5. I truly dislike the loot lock system forcing ppl to make raiding alts to play with multiple different groups, this game is not kind on alts (and personally I feel like keeping a main and an alt both geared just sounds like burnout).

  6. They should use exploration content to go wild with meaningful gearing. We see a bit of it already but if these were cranked to 11 allowing new playstyles they would get more longevity.

  7. Glamour is endgame because this game has no endgame. Minions and mounts are concidered content because this game has no progressive gameplay. Its a 15 dollar chatroom where dance steps and choreography is concidered hardcore raiding. Which as said in the video is pointless unless you just like raiding. You've got until Mass Effect YoshiP 😘

  8. I'm 1 item off BiS.

Really don't care because I can just craft +10 ilvl higher than raid gear in a month

For so long I cared, then that realization kicked in that it's seless and I should just play casually.

Systems like eureka were much better imho.
Gear that exponentially gets stronger throughout more gameplay, and stays relevant forever.

Baldession arsonal is still super fun content, and made more fun with full elemental+2 and physeos weapon

  9. So true, I haven't tank so now I'm running solo unsynch smn on high dungeon to get gears for pld and drk then just sell once i get better from 60 to 70 to 80

  11. As a reason on why people care for BiS, I would add the way parsing works. In the sense that, if you're not lucky enough to have a dedicated group to raid with every tier, when looking for a group the first thing people are going to look at is your FFlogs page, and since you don't have parse per ilvl, like in warcraft logs, being BiS helps a lot to make a good first impression

  12. i increase gear and pay attention to BIS for parsing. . .

theirs 2 parts of a tier that are a competition

1 – when it's new/fresh. see who can clear it faster
2 – who can do overall better in full BIS.

While I enjoy the first thoroughly, I enjoy trying to perfect a fight to the point that I do extremely well competitively. Where a single mistake for myself is quite detrimental. After 7-8 weeks and in parsing parties, not normal reclears. no reason to hold that level of execution standard on a weekly reclear. . . though I'll join those myself just to see how well i can do personally, I won't hold mistakes against others so long as it didn't end up killing me, or causing a fail repeatedly to the same thing . . hell even fails are fine so long as I got to practice my parse rotation on the place I wanted to. The pushing myself to as high as i can do is what I enjoy. Competitively vs others lets me compare how well i do vs others.

to me gear is useful for that and that alone. when everyone is in full BIS on an even playing field and had time to essentially perfect the fight. That's when parsing and gear for it is useful. . . . that's just me. I don't care as much about the glamor or the prestige of obtaining said gear. Or even the prestige of getting a 95-100 parses. It's purely a personal test against the best players I can.

  13. the fact that you replace armor sets left and right in FF has pretty much killed it for me, i never understood why even bother raiding when i can just wait for them to release a 24 man raid patch and endlessly grind the items i need with minimun effort only to just be the same ilvl and in almost in par in overrall strength with someone that's fully BiS. gearing and being BiS is completely pointless imo. because you could have the mininum and still out perform someone that's full BiS in most situtations if you're better then them.

  14. If the savage tier came with an ultimate, the savage gear is for the ultimate

If the savage tier didnt come with an ultimate, the savage gear is practically worthless.

This was my biggest gripe with clearing Eden Verse and Eden Promise

  15. Gear is not relevant. It's all about player skill to clear hard content at min ilvl.

Gear is just to make it easier, which defeats the purpose of hard content, but whatever.

  16. I tend to agree. The main sellingpoints for raiding in ffxiv for me personally is to experience the fights, learning them and beating them together with a group of people I enjoy spending time with in game and having fun with. The gear itself is cool and all but more so the finishing touch rather than being the brunt of my enjoyment. Its also nice if you like min-maxing, parsing, speed raiding, doing ultimates and ofc for the glam 🙂

  17. Having BiS gear is the same as getting the mount on content, it's a flex on other people that you've got the content down rather than done it once then wait a few years to unsync mount farm. Each to their own ofc but BiS still had a purpose

  18. raidgear of current tiers only matter if you plan onwards to do the maybe ultimate that will be released afterwards, otherwise yea, gearing or mostlikely raiding is just for the fun and the little challenge of it

  19. but this is what yoshi p always said, he dont want to seperate raiders from casuals, all players should share the same experience in his eyes, so the raidgear is just the top of the big icecream

  20. I wouldn't say totally pointless as they do benefit on

    1. Preparation for Bis for subsequent ultimate (if you are into this)
    2. Glamour

But yeah for point 1, you can wait until 2 patches later for the dungeon gear
