So you wanna DPS like a pro huh? Well you’ve come to the right place, in this video I’ll give you all the tools needed to top the non existent Meters. Now I know you may be thinking dps is easy I don’t need a guide… And that’s where you’re wrong my friend. Sure pushing buttons and standing in the fire is easy, but we don’t wanna be average dps we want to be dps gods!
The first mistake I see a lot of baby DPSers make is using single target skills on trash mobs in dungeons. Your tank is pulling everything from wall to wall if they have seen my tanking guide and they’re doing that so you can AOE them down faster, don’t let the tank’s hard work go to waste. Use your AOE Rotation and big cool downs!
Speaking of tanks, sometimes the tank may lose enmity or you might get over zealous and pull a mob they haven’t hit yet, don’t panic and freak out, run to your tank and jump on their shoulders and they will pick the mob off of you.
In FFXIV you can avoid almost all damage as a dps outside of room wide AOE attacks so do your Healers a favor and avoid the bad stuff on the ground. If you have to take some damage at least make sure you are in range of the healers aoe heals just because you are a range dps doesn’t mean you have to stand a million yalms away.
If you are playing a melee dps there is a good chance some of your abilities have a positional bonus so read your tooltips and make sure you are getting the most out of your attacks. All melee dps have access to True North, a cooldown that gives you the positional bonus no matter what, so use this if you can’t reach the rear or flank.
The final tip I have for you is ABD that’s right ABD always be dpsing. Keeping uptime on the boss at all times will make fights go faster so anytime the boss jumps or becomes unattackable make sure you are in the best spot to start hitting them again as soon as possible.
