Final Fantasy is a Masterpiece in all accounts and that's from a neutral point of view. Fortnite is a half assed cheap production, let us be real.
It's always funny to read those comments from fortnite players and that they've never heard of FF14 or that someone would play it.
Now.. well.. I play with mostly adult persons in FF14 and all I hear in voice chat of Fortnite are 12 years old kids. No wonder that they've never heard of FF14. It's older than themselves.
I think "best ongoing" game seems like a good fit for a game that matured more than some people in the comments.
Really, those awards will always have little meaning to me for the amount of games that should be nominated, but aren't. And there are so many games that would be even more deserving to be on the list and voted on. But at least it's funny to see people cry out for "their game" not to win an award, especially when one of the worst communities I have met, complain that they didn't won the "best community support" for their game.
Any time someone freaks out over VGA winners, I think of that time people flipped their shit over Undertale winning a GameFAQs GOTY poll.
It really doesn't matter. The fact that the games are even nominated is promotional win in itself. It's just that one of the nominations gets to take home a neat acrylic trophy.
No one who played any of the games and enjoyed them is going to see this and be like, "Oh this wasn't number 1 at the award show? Better drop/review bomb it."
EDIT: Also we all know the main reason for watching VGAs is for the World Premieres anyway :v

I will kinda give these guys a little credit. I didn't know anyone who played FF14 until I started playing. Then I started playing and a ton of people I knew were like "Hey lets play some time. :)"

I guess most don't understand youtube algorithms. I get several FFXIV and FFXVI related videos recommended during a week and maybe one or two Fortnite videos a month and that's pusing it… in style of the shown comments: "WTF is Fortnite, never heard of it."
The response to "I've never met a FFXIV player in my life" was my favourite. Someone responded with "I've never met a Fortnite player over 12"
Who cares who wins what award. I love FFXIV, been playing for over a decade but winning a vga is about as important as a movie getting a good review by critics from Rotten Tomatoes.
So only 10k of nearly 40 million players are in the US interesting.

Do I particularly care about the award? Not really
Would I have gotten salty if any other game would've won the award? No
