  1. I just recently learned that Matsya is a manifestation (incarnation? aspect?) of Vishnu as a fish. I feel like I am probably one of the last people ever to learn this and I feel silly. But I thought it was interesting.

  2. I love how everyone thinks Argos is some mythical species of dog…. it's a glowing Afghan Hound.
Granted the popularity of the breed has died off tremendously since 2001.

  4. Vanaspati is Spicy Holminster Switch.

My first thought for the midnight guest was Alisaie because I was very much into RDM at the time and she's become like a little sister to my character. Also, she's had a rough time with her family lately. But I ended up going with G'raha too, I'm not sure how people could pick anyone but him or MAYBE Estinien.

  5. There's a section in this zone/arch that made me walk away from the game for a few days. This game hits some emotional points that just need processing.

Also–group therapy comment is funny. My brothers both play FF14; Christmas the year EW came involved a multi-hour debrief about the major themes of the game between the three of us and how it related to our own experiences as a family (avoiding specifics because spoilers).

  6. Wait, Kyle is a Hercules fan, right? Do you think he's thinking of the line from The Gospel Truth where they say "On Mt. Olympus life was neat and

smooth as sweet vermouth" when referring to smooth vermouth?

  7. Its fine to go at your own pace
Sure some people wont agree since they experienced it differently, but I like seeing other people's opinions and how they go about the MSQ, instead of just rushing through it with much thought like a checklist.
    Take care bois

  8. This was the part where I literally had to stop playing the game, so that I could process what was going on. Never before has a game emotionally got me like that before, not even Shadowbringers.

I resumed after a couple of days.

Fun fact: This was the first time that you hear a dungeon's BGM before you go in the dungeon, during, and after the dungeon. In fact, you hear it more outside of the dungeon than you do in it, unless you get it in your Leveling Roulette. "As the Sky Burns" is a relentlessly unsettling track that you can't help but vibe to.

  9. "skip the twins, nobody choose them anyway"
…. but they are my fav ones 🙁

I do think there is a strong case to be made that even though everyone's experiencing the same story, cutscenes and dialogue, our choice in character dramatically changes how we each perceive the WOL, and their relationships with the other scions.

I play female Rean Au Ra, so between the big anime eyes and short height, I view WOL as the same age as the twins. Like them, in ARR when she stepped off that boat onto docks at Limsa, that was her first steps into a bigger world. I view all cut scenes and dialogue through the lens WOL is a teen, and the twins, Ryne, Gaia etc are her peers. The other scions are friends, but because of my WOL's appearance, whenever I appear in cutscenes with them they have this more "older generation, more experienced" vibe to them. Alisaie, as another teenage girl, is without doubt who my WOL is closest to, and who I picked for this scene.

Meanwhile my sister plays a female Hyur midlander. Given the character's appearance she views the WOL is was mid-20s at start of ARR, as such her character is closest in age to Y'shtola and Lyse – who as it is, are her two favourite characters and who she thinks her WOL "just vibes with the most" in cutscenes. So Y'shtola is who she picked. That I see the twins as WOL's peers is crazy to her, as she views them as somewhere between younger siblings and adopted children who are prone to brash actions without thinking things through, and she needs to look out for them when they get in over their heads.

I just think its interesting how we are watching the same cut scenes, reading the same dialogue, but our view of the WOL's relationship with the other scions is completely different based on what we picked in character creation all those years ago when starting the game (and here we're told character creation is purely cosmetic, and has no impact on gameplay :😄)
