Some info from FF14
Katana is the Japanese word for “sword”, but is also commonly used to denote a group of sword types originating from Japan. They bear a distinctive curved, single edged blade with a flat shaped guard, a simple handle wrapped in cloth, and subtle designs that distinguish their identities from other blades. Most are named based on the blacksmith who forged them. While specifically a backsword, a form of sword not unlike that of a saber, in the Final Fantasy series, katana are exotic blades, swift enough to attack in the blink of an eye or having mystical powers.

In games that have classes, katana are often reserved for Japanese-styled classes, such as the Samurai, Parivir, and Ninja. Installments that bear item descriptions and lore often note that katana are not of the game’s world, originating from faraway lands that are reminiscent of Japan; other games have accessible locations where katana and other Asian weaponry are hinted to stem from.
Katana (刀, Katana?), also known as ninja swords, dark blades, and knife, is a type of weapon in many Final Fantasy games. The most prominent katana is the Masamune. Other recurring katana include: Kotetsu, Kikuichimonji, Ashura, Genji Blade and the Muramasa. Muramasa and Masamune are the two most powerful, though the Masamune is usually idolized as the strongest. The Murakumo and the Mutsunokami are two other katanas that are typically even stronger than the Masamune.

  1. Cool as this is, seeing these in motion would probably help a lot in comprehending them. There's some that move or fold out or what have you that could be interesting to comment on.

  2. I'd love to see you go over Gladiator/Paladin weapons from FF14 as there are quite a few variances to choose from. They've got everything from European longswords to Scimitars and even Macuahuitls

  3. I started FFXIV recently so it's cool to see you covering the weapons, you might also be interested in some of the other class weapons the game has to offer. Also keep in mind that weapons have different sizes for lalafells who are smol compared to everyone else and therefore get smaller versions of larger weapons.

  4. if you are going to keep doing FFXIV weapons then try to get images of the models as there can be visual effects to the weapons that are not really shown on the icons also some weapons have moving parts that are again not shown on the icons.

  5. For this series, i recommend looking at better pics of the swords than the inventory items, if you scroll down on the eorzean database entries for those weapons you'll usually find a few good pics, because the Mogatana does not have an european crossguard but a weirdly shaped tsuba

  6. Amokura Ultima makes me think it might be designed to break, like if you were in a duel and pulled out this kooky looking sword, baffles your opponent, then halfway through it breaks they might get a moment of confusion or amusement at seeing your tryhard designed sword break, only for you to stab them in the throat with your remaining decent stabber because you were entirely expecting it and they weren't.

  7. Literally for every sword in this video I've also been thinking "okay, would it also work if you sheathed it and then golf swing the handle at them?" I'm too obsessed with sheath attacks in games and murderstroke.
