Final Fantasy XIV Veteran Plays Guild Wars 2

I’ve been playing MMO’s for a while now but never actually tried Guild Wars 2. Was curious to see how it was since it gets brought up in MMO conversations now and again. Let’s take a dive into it and see what it’s all about!

  1. If you liked this music, also check out this version "Guild Wars 2: Fear Not This Night 2018 – Maclaine Diemer". He is composing the music of gw2 for the expansions and he sang this version himself 🙂

  2. 7:25 if you look at the bottom left, you'll see you were temporarily up-leveled to 80 so you could participate in the event 🙂 you'll def be weaker compared to "real" lvl 80 characters with full gear, but strong enough to contribute. Generally if you see an event in a lower level zone you can kinda expect to be able to join in

  3. If you're enjoying the story, DEFINITELY get all of the Living Story Seasons (you can save up ingame gold and exchange it for gems to get them, or you can use cash. player's choice). Though always buy them as a season bundle and not via the story journal, as that way you get the 20% bundle discount. (If you're on Steam and got the Complete Edition, you'll of course already have them).

The Living Story Seasons 2-5 (season 1 everyone gets free) will give you roughly 12 hours of story progression per season minimum depending on how quick you are (so around 48 hours to play through the story of them at least, you'll probably take longer as it's super easy to get side-tracked in GW2 as you've probably learned by now). Seasons 3-5 will also give you 15 more maps to explore, access to an earnable no-craft Legendary Amulet, access to 2 craftable Legendary Trinkets, 2 mounts, several mastery tracks, and tons of other stuff. They're literally expansions without the "expansion" tag, with the main difference being they don't bring in Elite Specialisations like the bought expansions do. (Psst, oh and Season 4 is widely considered by the playerbase to have THE BEST section of story in the game!)

Seriously, get them if you haven't already 🙂

  4. 7:26 you get level scaled up for that event which depending on your gear, can actually make you stronger than someone who is at cap, since they do not expect you to have good gear while leveling. Outside of WvW, there are very few events that do this though.

  5. 8:26 There is commander in the map (the white mark in minimap). For WvW it's best to join them is you want to conquer a keep or survive meeting enemy blob 😉

After 8pm there are even queues for maps and servers are changend every week so you fight new ppl

  6. So having done what you have done but in reverse GW's 2 to FF14, the combat in GW's 2 is just so much more fluid. And when you need to move out of a attack it is much more crap I have to dodge RIGHT NOW… vs Oh I can just slowly walk out of this damage oh look I got out of it…. oh now I can go back in and continue to fight…. The story in FF14 is good I can not deny that… But sigh its so slow to do quests….. lol I think GW's 2 way of fighting and leveling is far superior. So I do hope you continue. If you get lost people will always help you out.. Don't rush to get through everything just enjoy the ride!!!! And if someone without asking says do this or this JUST DON'T, do what you want to do =-)

  7. Oh and importantly…… CURRENTLY Living Story Season one is being released after quite a few years because at the time they were making the story dynamic and one and done. So if you missed it you couldnt replay it. But this year they were finally able to work out a way to bring it back to the game in a style that all other LW stories are done. BUT the last chapter is not yet out…. We only just had a chapter come out 2 weeks ago…. SO if you get all the way up to living world story season 1 and then go into the next chapter of season 2 you might feel a little disconnected….. It is ok tho =-) I hope that made sense!

  8. The further you go into expansions, the better it gets, as is usually also the case with FF14.
Do be wary, a lot of crucial story content is in the living world seasons + icebrood saga.
If you get into the expansions without playing those, you'd be having a tough time figuring out who certain characters are and why they have ended up where they are, and certain important story beats will be lost.
If you are looking to buy the expansions, the steam version has a complete collection, which includes all the living world seasons + icebrood saga together with the expansions.
It does cost quite a bit, but that's the price we've all paid for a non-sub MMO.

  9. GW2 gives you so much freedom, it's easy to get lost to. Even gearing is optional since the difference between exotic and ascended is roughly 10%. Legendary is only for convinience and fashion wars. Also, story mode is a lot better played with someone else, since they get repetitive with high HP enemies.

  10. If you liked WvW, hop on during a weekend night and just join any one of the many zerg groups running.

Absolutely wild ride and incredibly fun.

I've been playing WvW almost exclusively since launch and have always been amazed at how easy it is to jump into, but how insanely nuanced the strategy and tactics get.

It truly is a "play at your own pace" sort of thing.

  11. Hey, just seen this video from algorithm suggestion; very happy and glad to have new players around! It's a joy to see new people are enjoying the game I love. Been playing this since 10 years: the content you've showed is actually from those times.

Believe me that your mind will be blown when you'll actually reach the many endgame chapters that are available now.

    Good luck and happy gaming!

  12. In my opinion, the quality of the music takes a big step up when the game moves away from Jeremy Soule as the composer. He did a great job, but for GW2, their in-house composers just take it a step above. Maclaine Diemer and Lana Chappelle wrote all of my favorite pieces in the game, and the other composers are no slouch themselves.

  13. I've played since alpha, have like 6 100% done characters lol ALways glad to see new players enjoying it, art/voice/music are the high points and as a lore/story person I'll say this ina non spoiler way, the story from start through the recent end of dragons is the most cohesive and thought out nuanced story I've ever experienced in an mmo, ff14 is great but I feel it at times minorly diverges often but gw2 was like "this is the story, now it's done" lol

  14. If you are enjoying the story up 'till now, you will love the developments after level 80! It gets more interesting, with NPC that grow with you. It loses the branching choices, gaining in richness, and every season/expansion the devs improved

  15. Welcome to the game! If you are enjoying the base game, it only gets better from here. Living World and the expansions bring a lot more different stuff and improve the open world design even further.

  16. as someone in the same boat as you, i cant describe how accurate this video is, i recently started the game as well with it launch in steam, and im almost at the end of the core game story going into the expansions, not only is the game great but as far as i seen i had such an amazing time talking to other players as well they were so helpful and chill i even remember swimming my way to a quest and met 2 players who are practicing ship sailing and joined them, it was such a little interaction but also so fun as exploring the map meeting people and having a character that feels like a real role you can play, the backstory the voice acting the choices and it impact on the story direction and so many more, i love ffxiv lore but the fact that in this game we are the ones who calls the shoots instead of mindlessly following quests is so awesome, i can go on to infinity with how much im loving the game but i still feel like that wont be enough, though i havent spent much time yet into the game the joy im having so far, is far too good to be describe 😄

  17. If you got hooked on the core game, you’ll love the expansions. The only word of caution I’d give is to pace yourself. There is a fire hose of content at level 80 and it can be overwhelming if you try to do it all at once.

  18. "And im looking forward to how the expansions play out"

Oh, sweet summer child…YOU ARE NOT PREPAIRED.

Try not to let it overwhelm you. The game slams you with new ways to play not seen in any other MMORPG, especially Path of Fire and the mounts. If…if…you can survive how Heart of Thorns hits you with a zone that is truly 3 dimensional which makes it the largest zone in any MMO in history.
