This is a good thing honestly, I know a few people that have been hacked on the stream client
This may have issues in the future but let's see.
For some reason im actually excited for this lol.
More security is never a bad thing.
its going to just make using any of the plugins that give QoL changes a pain in the arse and idiots will probably still end up getting their account phished on a fake raffle cos the scammers will just adjust and try and get into your steam account too now.
As a steam user, I hope this is optional and not required through steam. While I don't really understand their explanation on how it will work, I already use an additional token to login, I don't want it to add another step to login every time I get disconnected.
It would also be a concern though if it meant that you auto logged in if you were logged in through steam, as it then means anyone who finds a way into your steam also get free access to your game account. I also wonder how it plays with additional version like if you also play on PS4/5, since it sounded like it would force you to play through steam once the account was linked.
this is a hard pass only because I dont want yet another logon box. The 2fa app provides much security on its own already.
I hate this. Waiting on workarounds to be made so we're not forced into this.
Maybe positive but for some it is fatal. For Linux users the new launcher don't work so they can't play anymore unless they install windows… apparently
Wow, 4 uploads in one day! Nice to see activity from my fav ff14 content creator
Yeah no this sounds more like drm and I decided just to restart a new account probablu gift my old account to my ps4 lil brother but the only way I can say it's a positive if they make it optional
I'd be cool with this if I didn't also have to still log into the launcher every single time.
Well RIP the steam bard multiboxer bands.
rip xivlauncher users
I have a friend that lost his account twice and needed to start over. He did have the token setup as well. I think this will help in preventing loss of hundreds of hours and in game purchases. I have no issue with this.
This is probably to stop account selling as well. This is no different than the link to PSN afaik. It doesn't help that the Windows/Steam difference on login checks, is basically a "-isSteam". The only concern I have is Linux users via Proton using XIVLauncher
As someone that plays FFXIV a lot through Steam I'm completely cool with this for the enhanced security since I'd be so freaking upset if I was unlucky enough to have my account stolen considering I have almost 9k hours played lol
Sorry I don’t get this. If I’ve always been playing on the original FF14 launcher. Does this affect me?
I atleast hope this is optional, I have a good few friends who aren't fans of this decision. As a console player I can sort of understand
This benefits no one but Valve by locking you in their environment. For good security, standard 2FA already does the trick with only a little inconvenience. Now if your Steam account is compromised then so is your Square Enix account. If that happens then you're done because Valve's helpdesk is terrible and there is little SE can do due to contractual terms. I'd gladly pay for the whole game again if it meant I could change my account type from Steam to Retail at this point but it's not possible again, due to the contract. No I wonder if it's possible to buy the Mac version and trick the launcher into thinking you're playing from that…
My husband and I have the same log-in, but different Service Accounts beneath that log-in. Our different Service Accounts are different Steam log-ins though…so I'm a little concerned with how this is going to work for that and if you can have different Steam linking for different Service Accounts beneath a same singular log-in.
This change isn't for the benefit of the user. It's to combat botting/rmt/other loopholes through methods I won't get into.
