NFT is just like selling Runescape Zezima account, who want to buy?
Now this is how FF goes downhill. Fvck this metaverse shite.
Still waiting for information on how this shit is going to improve gaming for gamers. Obviously, these gaming corps are drooling over this for both the angle of money for literally nothing, as well as reinforcing the psychological hook of sunk cost fallacy to the maximum level. Nothing these corps say or do will EVER be on behalf of their gaming consumers, and whatever benefit does trickle down will be little more than a side effect of the desperate stampede to suck the hell out of this cash cow.
Why people that own Crypto always only talk about it? Because its a Pyramid scheme. You only start to make money if you can convince the next guy to buy it. So they talking about it, is basically constant sales pitch ( which is completely lowlife, selling your product to your friends and family )
And how does Crypto improves game currency? The companies could just use real money ( like Blizz did with D3 ). And its the same – but it does not destroy environment or launders money for organized crime.
my speculation is, that ff16 was delayed because of nfts implementation and they will destroy the ff franchise like they did to deus ex
Your opinion is all over the place. You know and most of us know this is another scheme to get players shafted. Stop.
How to kill your Reputation in 3 letters : NFT
They are pushing NFTs and Tokens just like they did microtransactions 10 years ago! Sad state…
Been making money on games for 3-4 years, why i mostly play, NFT's is OBVIOUSLY the business model i love, making money on gaming, but im already doing that, so, when wow have a NFT , in a space that works, I can start looking at it.
Wtf am i gonna play some shitty 2d game rite now? no ty
They just want a share from mods and staff.
Ff14 sucks anyways
1984 is shaping up to be a great year.
Sorry, I meant 2022.
Gamers: How out of touch are game companies?
Blizzard: Hold my beer, Bill Cosby.
Square Enix, EA and Ubisoft: NFTs are the future.
I almost spit my food out laughing when you mentioned their transformation into super-fans with rabies 😂 funny stuff
What gets to me is their messaging. Just like paid-DLC, season passes, microtransactions, special editions, every single time the gaming industry introduces something, it's always dishonestly selling it as a positive with no downsides. They'll "say the right words", frame it as a player-centric issue, imply that hesitancy is "the bad side", and that it can't be helped. It HAS TO HAPPEN.
And thus we have the industry as we know it today. A steaming pile of dogshit. I am intentionally lumping so called AAA and indie. At this point it's a false dichotomy to say a game is indie or AAA.
And let me poke a hole in your "play the game, stop playing and then sell back the stuff you earned" point. I always hear defenders of bad practices/early access/overpriced elements in games that "they've got their money worth", suggesting that for whatever price they paid, they aren't expecting anything else in return because the enjoyment of said game was sufficient. So why is it that companies that these apologists once defended are now turning around and saying that MORE value could be added into the game for which supposedly they've gotten their money's worth?
The allure of NFTs is the speculative value, and here we have companies who can't really be trusted to give good "value" in their games, but are suddenly really concerned that players aren't getting enough "value"? Notice that the goalposts have already shifted. The narrative is that it's not only good for players, it's actually necessary. As usual, hanging the threat of not being able to make more games if some shitty practice isn't implemented. Remember the "oh if people don't pre-order and if we don't sell x copies the series won't continue" excuse? And yes it's an excuse because popular franchises weren't just going to up and stop being made, no matter what publishers say.
So forgive me if I'm not even willing to "meet in the middle". The industry has done the best job of constantly changing the narrative that it's just naivety to assume that this time will be any different.
So let me get this,an NFT on a game would be just a unique skin that you pay with bitcoin?
Aaaaaaaaaaaand another Company makes it to my Blacklist
Using cryptos and NFTs to incentivize User Generated Content? sounds like crowsourcing the creation of game content, as a time and money saver. Maybe through the act of selling user generated content, the creator waives all rights over that content. This would be the way for the company to wholy capture the rights to new or innovative ideas without actually having to hire anyone. Plus, you can pay them in something that resembles in-game-currency, but it also translates to real world value, probably.
I always thought the real value of NFTs was in the music or movie industry, as some sort of anti-piracy thing. "I am the legit holder of a digitally signed copy of so-and-so's song/movie, number ####, end of story."
they claim it is the end of a saga for a reason
damn i just realised i cant call facebook facefook anymore . also i'm glad that people seem against the crappy NFT from the get go 👌😎👌
NFTs inserted into gaming greatest contributor to drive people away from the computer and into the gym or who knows where else xD
Play to earn is basically a way of having control over peoples income without being bound by any worker-employee regulation the amount of profit and also political influence a big corporation like EA and Square Enix will make out of this is just immense and beyoung what any of us can imagine, this will eventually lead to more predatory practices (for example more GaaS with microtransations) less regulations. Voting with your wallet does not work when we have a de facto oligopoly. Basically gaming as we know it is already on its way of dying, enjoy it while you can. GaaS, microtransactions all changed gaming and how games are designed and developed in a negative way, NFT will be the same but to a greater extent.
Happy for once, that FF14 never really was for me.
I feel bad for FF dev team because they will have to take a bit of bad reputation from the stupid publisher too
I make NFT's… I suck now…
I absolutely hate that this is even something that we're talking about. I've been in a state of denial, hoping the storm will pass quietly in the night. Here we are though, as if capitalist business practices in gaming wasn't already the bane of our existence.
Purchasing JPEGs, slot machine mechanics, infinite FOMO, garbage battle passes, and of course the ever-present paid to win mechanics.
Imagine a world where you paid money for a video game and then you played that video game, and that was it. Then if a company wanted to make more of the game they would do that, call it DLC, ship it, and then make sales based on the quality of their product. Could you even imagine!?
Enjoy your YouTube algorithm vitamins!
It`s all just buzzwords i think. Cryptocurrency and blockchain has been cucked for a while, decentralized exchange of value outside of centralized authority is no more, so now it is just another speculative market to make fiat money.
I think market growth probably slowed down last console generation, hence the microtransactions and increase in prices, crypto is just another part of that sad chain, another way to jack up the profits.
I also don`t think it is all doom and gloom, market will adapt, and even if all of your favorite entertainment goes to shit for various reasons there always will be new one created by people who care. History goes in cycles, good times followed by bad times, and even if we are entering bad times now, don't fret, with current speed of the progress good times should follow soon enough, brought in by people who desire change for the better, maybe even you or me.
I love FFXIV. Been playing for years now. If they are to implement NFT's or tokens I'm out.
I fking hate NFTs. Especially in Games. But still, I have to say, that the title is clickbait. FFXIV is (luckily) nowhere mentioned and Square's NFT thing is still in the R&D process, which hopefully means, that it will only affect future game releases. Besides, after the 1.0 ver. disaster of FFXIV, they are probably too afraid to add something like that to FFXIV, especially as long as Naoki Yoshida is on the steering wheel for FFXIV. So… I'm pretty sure that we won't see any NFTs in FFXIV. But will we see NFT's in future games from Square Enix? Yes, probably. But tbh, I'm not shocked, because Square Enix as a Publisher is even worse than EA. Just take a look at their pricing for PC-Games and the lack of regional pricing, lack of support and patches for their PC-Games …
i was the one to apply the 666th like.
I still struggle to see how this is applicable for SE. Valve could do it, so could Epic (Fortnite) – basically any game with a large player base willing to engage in transactions for cosmetics. I don't see any game but FFXIV in SE current portfolio that would be suitable. However for FFXIV mods are not much of a thing and anything but flat out forbidden by the devs (in order to ensure parity between PC and consoles). If they would have added something like that to Avengers, which died in no time, it would have been as embarrassing as Ubisofts early NFT attempts.
NTFs = digital ownership
Gamers: I don't want to own anything and I will be happy.
But why should it NOT be possible already to make cards tradeble ?! I dont need NFT technology to do that. However I can not do that because yeah "all the benefit to the company". So they make a card game selling you booster packs, people trade rare cards for money with their friends. Company makes a digital version and does nto allow you to trade the cards with your friends, so they have to buy boosters, too. Oh now we have NFT to make it better for the player… yeah sure. Shut up and take my money…
Asmongold nailed the nft thing on the head
I seriously think the pandemic has sent so many people mentally ill and they have been taken advantage of with nfts/crypto.
2020/2021 is not the years to decide that anything like NFTs and crypto is going to take off. People are just desperate at the moment. Hopefully the pandemic ends soon so we can all think straight lol.
To your last point: I dont think the intention is to allow players to sell off their cosmetics that might have otherwise been locked into their account, basically creating a 2nd hand market besides the ingame store. Obviously this would make SE loose money (even for the likely case they would ask for some sort of transaction fee to get a cut of the deal).
The biggest obstacle to "UGC" being more prevalent is not the inability of modders to make money off of it, it's the big publishers suing said modders or issuing DMCA strikes on mods that have been around for years. Also a lot of games are a huge pain in the ass to mod for because of the way they are built. There's a world of difference between trying to mod the average Square Enix game vs the average Bethesda game. Are NFTs going to magically change all of that?
And just like that FF14 flopped
I find it funny that all these people talk about "metaverse" being this new thing when Second Life has been around for eighteen years now.
P.S. NFTs would actually be a benefit to SL and the connected grids as they can solve the fundamental problem of "How do we ensure peoples items can be transferred between grids without allowing rampant copyright theft?"
Hey, here's an idea for a fun video: Compare Second Life to Earth 2. What does, say, $10 get one in either "game"? What can one do beyond staring at a map?
Maybe it would give Shane&co some pointers about where to take their "metaverse" to.
I don't THINK this will make it's way into FFXIV, but in the event that it does somehow infect it – as a happy subscriber since ARR – I'll quit. immediately. I'll be god damned if I'm going to play a version of the game that I'm both paying monthly for (Which I don't mind doing) AND makes a company a bunch more money on crypto horseshit. No way am I fuckin playin FFXIV with some stupid little counter in the corner telling me how close to my next cactuarcockcoin I am.
We deserve this though. The majority of us just doesn't take responsibility for their spending habits. This is just the next step for the endless pit of greed after Microtransactions etc.
