  1. 28:02 FUN FACT
In the German edition of the game, this item’s name is “Dokument A38 zur Registrierung als Arbeitender Eulmores” (translated: “Document A38 for the registration as a bonded citizen of Eulmore”) with the translated item description reading as such: “Name, occupation, and space for an official seal. The world’s last paradise has astonishingly bureaucratic procedures.”. The name references the permit A38 from the 1976 French animated movie The Twelve Tasks of Asterix, where “permit A38” was famously used as a plot-device to mock modern-day bureaucracy.
The translators definitely knew their audience.

  2. Something to look out for!! When you do any of those "Zoom and Search" missions in Shadowbringers, there is a Shoebill hidden in every single one. See if you can find them!! In this one it was right next to the blue haired Mystal

  3. I really want to call Mrs. Dulia-Chai by the name of Yuyu…
There was a patron I had who was exactly like that: rich, chubby, beautiful and adorable and very eager to trait their employees as dearest pets. Having her around was a treat… until those moments when her words turned ignorant to the struggles of the common folk, she isn't a bad person at all, but she is very misguided by the life of decadence. Her pet name was Yuyu and people calling her that meant to her that we loved her, and she loves being loved.

  4. Ooh, FF XIV, I both am frustrated by, and deeply love, the little complications you like to throw in your worldbuilding! Here, we have Eulmore, which is, obviously, the worst kind of place, a dark portmanteau of Limsa Lominsan location and beauty married to Ul'dah's wealth disparity and ruthlessness, creating a utopia for the indolent rich where you never have to confront the bad things you do or look the people you hurt in the eye. A curse upon it, and a curse upon those who run it… and yet, it's where most of the people are in this area, so can you really blame people like Kai'Shirr for doing anything to get in? And even after we do complete the bureaucratic rigmarole and finally meet our employers, they… seem nice? Maybe a bit oblivious and silly, more than a little ignorant, but not willingly malicious or cruel, certainly. Again we circle back to perhaps the most important theme of the entire game- governments and social bodies can become destructive, monstrous forces, but the people within those bodies could be anything at all. And that the one gets conflated for the other is kinda the whole problem.

  5. Playfriends, it's time to queue up for immigration checks. Please ensure your passports were issues within the last 10 years. This is your spoiler free lore comment.

3:33 – "It's called character growth!" – Dan, after passing the Construct 8 computation check.

7:17 – There's a large bird that the Mystel lad is walking toward here. Keep this bird in mind in the future.

10:35 – I like how this shows Alphinaud's two minds about Eulmore. He doesn't like how its alluring pleasures are sapping the region of its will to scrape out a way forward, but when presented with Kai-Shirr's gnawing hunger and desperation, he readily gives up a path into the city. He doesn't like the effect the city's policies are having on Kholusia (which the city may not even realize is occurring), but he can't fault folks for wanting the safety, security, and sustenance in Eulmore.

18:45 – To remind you of some Heavensward lore, Krile revealed that Alphinaud spent hours practicing sketching during his Sharlyan schooling, specifically to impress young ladies.

29:20 – While a bit demeaning, requiring delousing is a real thing that continues to this day. While you're unlikely to be stopped at an airport for it, lice checks are part of many nations' refugee screening procedures. And honestly, when was the last time your RPG character took a bath and washed their gear?

31:25 – "Let my path be a warning to you, little Alphinaud. Not washing my armor nearly lead to my ruin as a pawn in Nidhogg's quest for vengeance. Wash yourself!" – Estinian, in Alphainaud's mind.

35:10 – The Chais demonstrate that Shadowbringers is expanding its range of NPC types. Dulia-Chai shows we're expending beyond the thin and fit forms that the character creator allows, and Chai-Nuzz's face shows an increased variety of methods to age NPCs, beyond the full custom face that Matoya has. Although his scowl is probably doing the bulk of the work.

42:15 – Well, we know this isn't 100% true, given what happened to Tristol…

43:40 – But at the same time, it's easy to paint Eulmore with a broad brush. This lady did not send off her attendant to retrieve a handkerchief on a whim, risking his life. He did this without her input and she is aghast that he nearly fell from the balcony. She cares about him, and he her.

44:20 – This, I think, is a vastly forgotten bit of Eulmore's lore that results in a really interesting place. There is a definite class divide in Eulmore. Free Citizens do not ever need to worry about being cast out, while Bonded residents do. But the Free Citizens no longer own material wealth. The only thing they have left is their status; all goods and valuables are turned over to the city state, which uses them for the upkeep of the Eulmore. The Free Citizens are entirely dependent on the state and the Bonded for food and services. And thinking about it more, the Bonded are also a bit reliant on the state, as they require food and services as well. With these two playing down the class divide, it almost makes Eulmore seem egalitarian.

    Next time: More about Eulmore!

Rachel Atkins, Grand Cleric Elthina in Dragon Age 2 and Lorithea in Xenoblade Chronicles, as Dulia-Chai

Bruce Mackinnon, Sir Peter Teazle in The Duchess, as Chai-Nuzz

  6. Alright, since Dan said it, let's talk AU's or more specifically mirror dimensions. Every portion of the first has a counterpart on the source, and that counterpart is basically the opposite. We've seen Mor Dohna, in our world the end game hub, here as your starting city. Both function as zones of trade for allagan goodies, but rather than being a run down frontier, the Crystarium is basically the most built up settlement on the first.

Eulmore is alternate Limsa. We know Limsa as a den of pirates, but also as a place of freedom. The initial settlers were running from oppression, and the draw of the city is that anyone is welcome, so long as they can pull their weight on a ship. Sure it's not always safe, freedom has safety as it's price, but it's also the only city state in eorzea that has elections(prior to the parliamentary democracies established in HW and SB). Eulmore by comparison is safe, but tyrannical. No amount of merit will bring you from pauper to prince, and no one is free. Where Limsa Lominsa is a harbor that can take you anywhere, Eulmore is a fortress, where no one enters, and no one leaves.

As we see more zones I'll talk about their parallels because it's some pretty fun stuff. I just hope if we ever see other shards they let them be different worlds, rather than remixed versions of home. One is fun, but there are only so many ways you can flip a city before you have to resort to silly hats.

  7. – The city of Eulmore, is like Limsa & Ul'dah had an evil baby, which considering i just compared it to Ul'Dah it's saying a lot
    – so Meol is either people, or ALL the drugs, or both
    – it has been 5 years & yet Alphi still can't let go the Sword incident, granted for Tataru it has been like a month so she's gonna bring it up regardless
    – well Tristol, there's a librarian in the Crystarium that would appreciate having an Ilustrator, or anyone to talk with, please get Monet a friend

    – i wonder if the Chais are related to Chai from Hi-Fi Rush?
    – the frustrating part of the Eulmore people is that you can tell their attitude comes from a place of Ignorance, yet, they are totally ok with their Overlord throwing people into the sea, so is clearly Malice too

  8. Fun fact! Dulia-Chai's animations use a heavily modified Lalafell skeleton. It's a bit hard to tell when she's sitting down and wearing a dress to cover half of her body. But if you keep a close eye on Dulia-shaped NPCs moving forward, you might recognize some Lalafell emotes.

  9. Enjoying Shadowbringers so far, but I heavily encourage Dan to spend a bit more time in those "look at an area in first person and find the X" segments. Specifically looking for, oh, other things to click on rather than the correct target. Feathered, dour-expressioned other things.
