  1. Do NOT listen to people that say "this job is shit," they are probably taking memes too seriously or talking about top level meta which is barely relevant to a small percentage of hardcore raiders. Job choice comes almost entirely down to personal preference because the game is overall well balanced. I personally enjoy monk quite a bit, probably more now than I ever have.

Monk is not bad, it can do a huge amount of damage but literally everything has positionals and even though you have a bunch of buttons that temporarily remove position requirements, it's honestly kind of a nightmare to keep track of since all the other melee only have a couple positionals. People say Monk is bad because you have to do so much just to reach the same damage as SAM which is WAY easier, probably the easiest melee job tbh.

  4. A lot of people don't fully know what they're talking about all the time with Monk, it's not exactly bad. It's still fun and has great base gameplay, but it's in the middle of a rework that we won't see the fruits of until 6.0. This means that a lot of its kit seems to be fighting against itself. The RNG nature of Chakra and ton of weaves coupled with the innately fast GCD of Monk seem really at odds with each other. As you can't overcap Chakra it means it must be spent now but without the room to do it. This makes abilities drift, you lose chakra, and you have this "lose-lose" feeling. But it performs decently and its got a great baseline kit. It's not bad by any means.

    Regarding Tanks, they're all good. WAR/DRK tend to be a bit sturdier due to Nascent Flash/The Blackest Knight and do slightly less damage than the PLD (which does good damage and has a lot of support) and GNB (which is weaker defensively but has great damage.)

  5. Lvl 80 monk here. Yeah Samurai does Dps, but those losers require a sword. As a Monk, your fist are your weapons. You get to lovingly jam you fist into any enemy. Monk does provide a lot buffs to the team through Brotherhood and Mantra. As well as having a good amount of skills to increase your Dps and Survivability

  6. Anyone saying something is shit, is not speaking objectively. I wish people would learn the difference between opinion and fact. A lot of people speak as if their opinion is fact and it's immensely annoying.

    OBJECTIVELY, no class is bad. "Monk is shit" is their opinion. Monk is not bad. Some people may not like how it plays or something, but it's not bad. All classes are good in their own way. What feels good or bad is based on your personal taste.

  7. Monk is fun but its very fast pace since they have the lowest gcd in the game (im at 70 with less then 2.0 gcd and every skill in the combo has a positional so your moving around the boss a lot

  8. I've always enjoyed monk since ARR, and it also shares gear with sam (making it easy to gear them both up). The main reason alot of people used to not play it is it has a very high skill cap. Its the only dps that doesn't have a set 123 combo, and allows alot of mix up. It got a huge amount of buffs recently, including the removal of greased lightning (similar to huton except it give even more attack speed/skill speed). It is the fastest gcd melee class in the game, and with having no set combo it feels extremely unique.

    The reason the meta doesn't like monk is because its party buffs don't line up with other buffs because its on a 90 second, instead of 60 or 120. Again unlike samurai, it does bring brotherhood, which is a damage buff to everyone. Don't be surprised if the melee pecking order changes with Endwalker either, this happens every expac πŸ˜›

  9. Monk currently is in a good spot.
    In 5.4 it is made more accessable than in a long time. Dps output is very good and buffs party.

    It is demanding. But also rewarding.

  11. There is no 'not good' job in FF14. Monk is very good. It has very high DPS and one raid buff. The only thing you have to worry about is positionals which just about everyone of its skills has, master that and you'll be topping DPS charts.

  12. Monk is easily one of my favorites, you are doin all my dps jobs right now, and its a hard choice between NIN and MNK. Both have great party utility. SAM on the otherhand…. MIDARRE SETSUGEKKAAA!!!!

  13. I have just one fear when Endwalker comes out and that is that people with 0% healing experience unlock Sage and go straight into Lvl 70+ Content with it
    Healing in ffxiv is in some capacity different then from other games so they propably go in with a very "I play very safe" Mentality, which is not bad per se but it's not idealy as well, especially not because some Shadowbringers Dungeon Bosses (or at least one) has an enrage.
    And dont get me wrong, I dont want to gatekeep, of course not. My advice would be to pick up a healer beforehand so you get some healing experience and then go into Sage when Endwalker comes out so you have a pretty solid image of what to expect from Sage

  14. no class is "bad"… devs are quick to fix classes, some are underwhelming in terms of gameplay but again thats a personal thing… in my case its bard.. but bard can still do a pretty good damage and very viable for ultimate etc.. so NONE of them are actually BAD.. i bet those people who are screaming about how bad monk is etc doesnt even know how to play monk, most of them are people who cares about the hard-core end game raid "meta" and be delusional thinking they're running for the world first raid clears but in actual they just afk infront of the market board. so calm down mentors.

  15. Monk is much better after patch 5.4, though I'm looking forward to seeing if any more big changes come to the job in Endwalker. Now that it's lost its Greased Lightning mechanic (which is a good thing) I'd personally want to see Monk integrate the Chakra gauge more, instead of it feeling more like a tacked on bonus. Or at the very least, there should be more options for spending Chakra other than Forbidden Chakra or Enlightenment (which is just an AoE Forbidden Chakra).

    Right now, Monk isn't perfect but still fun to play. In my experience there's nothing more rewarding than learning your rotation as a Monk and being able to execute it perfectly in terms of landing all your positionals. The endgame for a Monk is learning to land as many of those positionals as you can during raid encounters. Super fun.

    I encourage anyone to give Monk a try. It's not my main, but it's the only melee DPS job I use.

  16. Forget what people say about Monk, SCHOLAR is the job that needs the rework the most, in my honest opinion.

    Scholar's DPS rotation is completely gutted. I believe it used to be the case that both fairies had different abilities, and you would need to switch between them on the fly as part of your rotation. Also losing Miasma and Fester when you literally learn the abilities as an Arcanist before getting Scholar is so bloody stupid. It's a job whose healing basically all comes from OGCDs, but then gives you nothing to do with your GCDs other than Bio the target then spam Broil over, and over, and over, and over. But the healing is more technical and engaging on Scholar, and putting shields down during huge add pulls is awesome (now if only every tank knew to stay in them when I put them down, that'd be great). The party crit buff Scholar gives is nice, and I get the sense that's the main reason Scholar still gets picked as off-healer in groups, despite having worse heals and worse DPS than other healer jobs.

    WHMs will probably hate me for this, but seeing as SCH has worse heals than WHM, SCH SHOULD be the highest DPS healer job. That's what I'd like to see in any future reworks SCH gets.

    But that's just what I think, as a GNB main who has recently picked SCH up as his first healer job. I like to be clicking buttons and dealing damage. And seeing as 90% of SCHs heals are OGCDs, I would like to perform a DPS rotation and weave heals.

  17. Monk is currently in a sort of… transitional phase. It's probably getting a pretty big rework in the coming expansion, so what you have now is kinda stripped but functional.
