MMOs are one of the least accessible genres in the medium. They’ve built up a somewhat deserved reputation as these monster lifestyle games that dominate your entire life and leave little room for things like, y’know, an actual second hobby. But there’s one MMO that stands apart from that trend, that actively seeks to resist that style of design and respect your time at every level of play whether you’re just starting out or are hundreds of hours deep. Final Fantasy XIV is as streamlined and accessible as MMOs get. And if, like me, you enjoy MMOs but don’t have hundreds of hours to devote to one, it is absolutely the MMO for you.

Heoly heck, this is the best way to demonstrate the good traits of an MMO I have ever seen! Like yeah, a lot of the reasons I never touch MMO's is, well, everything FFXIV has mostly cut! That said, I don't really have 60GB of free space to try the game out right now, but I am deffo more tempted to do so than with any other MMO I know! ^w^ Great work!
7:04 a crap guide reference?
Me watching having never put more than a couple hours into any mmo: ah yes I definitely know what is being referred to with this midgame stuff yup lol definitely not missing every comparison being made nope couldn't be me lol but good video tho. Those first five hours are crucial imo. I couldn't make it past five hours in WoW, OSRS, PSO1, or GW2. I gotta give FFXIV a shot one of these days, it sounds from this video like an MMO that's actually well-designed, which is not something I'd say about any other MMO I've tried
i wish they'd snip off everything before 2.4 (excluding the setup stuff for later like garlean empire quests + ul'dah), i wanted to punch all the flatbread old scions in the face (except old urianger because he's voiced by balthier)
so thats where you've been! haha
MMOs are not at all for me, but I really enjoyed your break down of how FFXIV works and compares to the others.
Oh, I played the trial some years ago but ended up dropping it even though I was having a lot of fun, only because I was a college student with no money at all to pay the subscription, like, I was couldn't even pay the bus ticket and had to walk/bike literally everywhere lmao
Now that I have a full-time job and various responsabilities I though that I could never get into a MMO without a lot of sacrifice but maybe I could give it a change again, thanks for the video!
I started playing this critically acclaimed MMORPG FINAL FANTASY XIV that has a free trial up to level 60 including the Heavensward expansion, because apparently everyone is playing it now. Brings back some of the nostalgia from the early days of WoW.
I just started playing this because everyone else in the world is. About halfway through Heavensward so far and having a blast
Would you recommend this game for people who have had NO positive experiences with any prior Final Fantasy game?
Your video design reminds me a lot of Raycevick! Well done!
great video, covering a lot of good aspects. However, the class recommendations as well as the hours required dont really match up. the Main story, takes about 250 hours from start to being up to date. and there are no classes that are one button smash at lvl 30. not at even lv 10 u do that anymore.
I've got a decent gap in the games I'm expecting to get through later this year, and maybe I'll finally take a stab at FFXIV this time. I love a lot of the FF games as is, and there's no good reason I've been putting it off as long as I have. I almost hopped in a few years ago, but I instead opted for Warframe as my "big online" game of choice because the allure of Shooty Slidey Space Ninjas™ was too much to pass up. The grind in that game is often super ridiculous though so I eventually put that away once I exhausted the story.
The section on classes was very welcome to see.
I've tried FF14 once myself already, played the Lance class or something, and I was so incredibly bored just spamming the same button for several hours.
This video's really made me want to try again, with a much more "active" class this time to see if I can get into the combat.
Well, you've sold me. As someone who has never played an MMO, I'm gonna give it a shot.
I started as a Dragoon last year, played through that class's intro story and stopped when it required me other guys for a dungeon quest.
What do you say I should do next?
If only I wasn't so picky with how I like my combat. I have wanted to get into an MMO for a while, but I really need to feel like my success in combat isn't mostly stat based and moreso skillbased. The best comparison I have would be something like the monster hunter franchise, where you aren't exchanging numbers but rather trying to avoid getting hit, find openings, etc.
Pardon the incoherent rant.
