Yea, XI has been tanking the whole "its a MMO so it doesn't count" take for nigh on 20 years. XI and XIV are really special and knowing that Sakaguchi fought for XI to be a numbered entry is the only validation XI and by extension XIV ever needed. I hope with the release of more behind the scenes dev interviews for XI (in the lead up to its 20th anniversary) that people can at least appreciate how XI paved the way for XIV even if initially it led to 1.0 being what it was and how YoshiP and the XIV devs were able to make something new but that still honored their XI roots. XIV is like one giant love letter to Final Fantasy fans who have played different games. My first FF game was VI so I was stoked to have found lots of references about it on XIV. There's references from every FF games as well so there's a lot for everyone.
