Oh yeah, there are some serious spoilers in this video. The good thing, at least, is that they are such intense future spoilers that I think you don't even quite know what all you're seeing yet!
Me, realizing the heavensward react dropped and getting super hyped and theN REMEMBERING THERE'S SPOILERS IN THE TRAILER TONY NOOOOOOO :'D
If you like my game cinematic reactions catch me on TWITCH every Monday and Wednesday (and probably one other day in the week) playing various games. I take reaction requests live or you can choose the next cinematic I react to on my YouTube as well if you have enough channel points (gathered by attending multiple streams). You can also pick a game and play with me on our monthly subscriber Saturdays! – https://www.twitch.tv/legacyentmedia
I think it might be interesting to revisit these trailers when you get to the respective expansions.
Also starting in Stormblood they started doing more cinematic patch trailers as well (prior to that, patch trailers were 8-10 min long and gave an overview of both content and new features added) Later they shortened them to be 3-5 minutes and more cinematic in nature. They also intentionally put in voiced dialogue from the upcoming story, however the take it out of context to misdirect the viewer, and each patch there's much speculation about what's going to happen, knowing that the dialogue in the trailer is meant to mislead.
Not sure if they're warrant a full on analysis, but definitely worth watching, and may be interesting to get a reaction. All the scenes are from in game, granted they have more control over camera manipulation than players do (without using 3rd party tools) so it does have interesting camera work that players can't easily replicate. Also each patch has a unique and impressive transition into the patch name/logo/poster art. I'd start with 4.1 for that. Prior patch trailers were cool from an information perspective, but going back and watching them, they're a bit long winded
The "Heavensward" title actually has a few different meanings in-universe (it refers to both a place and a group of people), but on a meta level, this the expansion that introduced flying mounts into the game, so it's "heavensward" in the sense of moving players toward the heavens.
Man, this theme still gives me the goosebumps
Some context you should understand is that this song is performed in both English and the language of the dragons. The player finds themselves in the middle of a 1000 year conflict called the Dragonsong War. Dragons have a culture of preserving their history in a unique way: by way of song. So there’s a reason why the theme is of two perspectives, man and dragon. I think it’s rather cool way to present the expansion.
you better forget this whole trailer until you get to heavensward 🤣
The main character of the cinematics (We like to call him Derplander), is basically the stand-in for your player character.
Some story on the gate reveal in 4:30.
Back in 1.0 (2011) those gates were locked and behind it you could see the city of Ishgard. 1.0 had a poor launch and got shutdown. When the game came back in A Realm Reborn (2013), the gates were STILL locked and we couldn't get access to Ishgard. Then the Heavensward expansion dropped (2015) and when we first saw those gates in the trailer people lost their mind. We had been waiting 4 years till finally being able to cross those gates.
Little, fun detail to know about that cinematic the dragons you see in the cinematic actually were made using the WRONG model, due to a mishap in communication and model transmission the animation team for the cinematic only received the model of a Dragon that is actually on our side instead of those of enemy dragons, or the big bad enemy dragon.
To me it doesn't hinder the qualityy of that cinematic and if anything, it probably motivated the existence of a dungeon in the post Heavensward dungeons.
Do the warblingers trailers please
For who the guys were. The Short Lalafell with the White Mustache and mask over his eyes was Lolorito, and the guy in the Cell near the end was Raubahn both are characters you'll definitely get to know if you continue to play through FF14.
Short on them is Lolorito is a Magnificent Bastard, and Raubahn is just an awesome guy and former Gladiator seeking to help Uldah and the Sultana.
hi can you please react to ateez – i'm the one (Fireworks) , Sf9 – enough next !!!
Imo this is the second best expac, shadowbringers just clinches it for me
your patreon link isn't working for me by the way, was going to go watch the flames of truth.
Btw the something I see a lot of people getting wrong but by the "castle" I assume you referring to Ishgard and it's not just a castle but a whole city, it's kind of hard to get the scale in this cinematic but it's huge and built in several tiers and it's not literally in the sky (it's built on a mountain top).
Fun fact that I think no one has specifically mentioned is that it starts off with a "scions" or a story singer. Then switched to the language of Dragons for the bridge scene, the abrupt shift in tone. After that there's the lull of wonder and calm as you take in the culture. And the Final portion is I believe supposed to be sung by the Templars of Ishgard.
Oh and Personally – the Dragoon glove clamping onto the main guys arm is just… "sir I think this is an age restricted scene for 18+" xD
Heavensward is centered around the city-state of Ishgard, located in the arctic north of Eorzea called Coerthas. Coerthas is constantly riddled with snow and blizzards. The fire and smoke is representative of the Dragonsong War which Ishgard has been engaged with the Dravanians (Dragons) for a thousand years.
someone likely said it already but heavensward's name is 2 meanings, one for being the name of the "knights of the Heavensward" in the city the expansion takes place in, Ishgard, heaven's ward being those that guard the skies, and the fact that it is the expansion that introduced flying, meaning we were journeying heavensward, as in upwards.
which is very nice in a neat little package.
something most people do not notice, at 6:00 that is not projectiles hitting the dragon, it is Dragoons the dragonfighting Lance wielders , they are jumping from the towers and hitting the Dragon Directly with their spears, they also wear spiked armour for the only reason being that a dragon will be critically injured after it tries to eat them.
I started out as a dragoon. It's pretty lit ngl
The guy who's in every cinematic is the representative of the player and he has a different job in each 1 going all the way back to the 1.0 trailer.
African Pantheon :0 sounds awesome.
I love my Greek and Norse mythology, I am highly interested in some African!!
Thanks for doing these reactions, really enjoying them and actually learning a lot from the techniques part. it is a bit more of a short and obscure one but I would like to see you check out the GreedFall E3 Cinematic Trailer and/or the Reveal Teaser. Very interesting trailers for a game with some really cool themes that in my opinion deserves more attention than it got. Each one is only a minute and a half though.
That was my exp. soooo much of my Dragoon!^^
That armor!!!
3 minutes into this video and still not on the actual content.
The obstruction given by snow, smoke, clouds, etc, is used to show the clouded vision of the citizens of Ishgard. Once you get fully into the Heavensward story it becomes apparent. Also, Heavensward…. a double meaning that shows how the people of Ishgard always seek heavenly guidance from the Fury, Halone, and is the churches elite guard known as the Heaven's Ward. Just a small bit of info from a cat in Sargatanas world in the NA Aether data center. Have fun and enjoy that story.
Welcome to the Dragonsong War.
If you'd like, do a reaction to the Dragonsong video.
By far my favourite expansion and trailer.
Endwalker full trailer is out btw!
