  1. Yshtola was my favorite character from ARR, strictly because of her calling out that mf who had you collecting cheese from a dungeon ruled by a poison dragon.

  2. As someone at lvl 47, almost there, almost through ARR, this is comforting to know.

But I don't know if I could ever love or even like any of the Scions. I'm neutral toward Minfilia, Urianger and Tataru. I despise all the others, they're lazy bastards who leave most of the hard work to me. I'm not invested in them at all. The only one I tolerated was Thancred. Until last night after rescuing the useless Scions and I discovered what he REALLY is. Damn you Thancred, I could have tolerated you!

Ahem… yeah the Scions are merely clients, employers my character chooses to work for because I'd bail.

  3. The one thing this review is missing is some acknowledgement that, even in older content, we are now playing with shadow bringers mechanics and design. What made me think it was the comments on crafting, and the brief comments on combat. I actually started playing when heavensward was the current content, and oh boy have things changed since then.

Crafting has been optimised and streamlined so much since then. Before hand skills had a chance of failing unless you used a move that improved the odds of success, just draining your cp or leaving it to chance. A lot of the abilities were weird and clunky, and even the ability to test craft is new.
Similar things have happened with combat for all classes. Every class is now balanced and designed around the track to 80, with older moves being altered or straight up removed, with a lot of classes playing very differently at level 60 now then they did back then. All the changes for the better though. Things have been streamlined so much, but it does mean we can't really evaluate "heavensward" combat, as all combat now is shadowbringers combat. And honestly I don't want to go back. I remember when paladin didn't have a damaging AoE to its' name.

  4. I remember when I first picked up Final Fantasy XIV A year ago and I remember playing through all of ARR.

I already started as a Dragoon because that was just my favorite class I really love back in Final Fantasy Tactics and other Final Fantasy games.

So when I was going through the game I always heard people saying Havensward is where the game truly starts.

Now I will say ARR wasn't that terrible but it definitely wasn't interesting and it only got better in my opinion very close to the end but at that point you're already at the end.

And now I despise The ending because every single time I want some more tokens or even money or even level UPS I have to go through a whole 20-minute mission that I can't skip.

And after you see those cutscenes were over a hundred times it really gets on your nerves real fast.

But yeah when I got to this DLC it was the best experience I had and I did definitely lose track of time when I was playing through.

So if you're reading this comment take some word of advice. Take your time.

I'm serious take your time and enjoy everything. And plenty of good boss fights but just take your time because if you do that's how you burn yourself out and not enjoy the experience.

  5. Every time, EVERY time I come back to this game I really truly want to love it. I can’t get past ARR though. Holy crap it’s the most boring MMO I’ve ever played at this point. The dungeons are ok, but something just feels so quiet, dead about the game. I can’t point it out. I feel so sad about it because people that play this love it so much. The game feels so quiet and ‘dead’ to me. I even have more fun in GW2. Heck I was even briefly into BDO. I don’t think I’ve wanted to and failed to like a game more than FFXIV.
All I feel at the moment is that I get forced to run back to town for no reason more often that fun would allow.

  6. Maybe the thing with arr characters is that technically we meet the scions in the previous 1.0. While the legacy version was halted, its story stands. I didn't play it but i imagine you would get to know more about the scion's backgrounds

  8. Great video but I disagree with your thoughts on the ARR soundtrack. ARR had so much great music though. Every trial theme, crystal tower, binding coil, most of the level 50 dungeons. There's tons and tons of good stuff.

  9. Check out the history of FFXIV 1.0 to ARR and you'll understand why ARR story is a bit lacking but still amazing considering what they have to work through.

  10. I want to take my time with this game but I just really want to play dark night. So I’m thinking as soon as I finish to story in ARR I’m going to go into heavansward, get dark Knight, then go back and do the raids and stuff in ARR before really getting into heavansward

  11. I enjoyed the video HW was good didn't blow my mind music was nice but the part about there barely being a connection between MSQ and dungeons in ARR is false. The dungeons the game forces you to do all were the end of their own little arc in the arr msq. They each had several quests of buildup and would directly lead into the next msq quest.
