These are the only two jobs to come in Endwalker, but the hype is really big. So many have already talked about abandoning the Scholar to play the Sage, but I totally understand you as the hype for the Reaper is SO big xD
Some small tidbits for ya off the top of my head.
YoshiP is a fan of mecha and Gundam in particular. The Sage is a fun little call to that.
The ghost that appears in the Reaper vid is a voidsent from The Void that you call upon. From what I can tell, it's not necessarily a pet but rather a momentary summon that you call upon between your own attacks. I didn't take notes during the Keynote address at fanfest so someone else will probably bring more to the table about it.
Doctor mike? Beewoop!
There's a lot of Black Mage main wanting to be the Reaper. I can't wait.
Sage is probably going to be related to Sharlayan, the new hub city, and also where the Scions came from. The music used was from the Great Gubal Library, which was Sharlayan property during their time in Eorzea.
Also, all Healers do a little of DPS.
Edit: Everyone does DPS, but DPS classes are specially Offensive-type, while Tanks and Healers has Damage skills, but fewer, with Tanks having more Defensive-type skills and Healers having more Support-type skills.
I like how they both look and I really want to use both. I think I'll like Reaper a bit more because you get a little buddy with it. Excited to interact with you again at some point. Take care <3
So to explain; Sages clearly originate from Sharlayan. They're the world experts on aether and tech. This also technically isn't the first job from that region as Astrologian debuted years ago in Heavensward.
Reaper has you summon a voidsent to attack with you or you can be its host and merge with it. Voidsent themselves have a a lot of lore and history in XIV already and they're often enemies you have to kill. This is the first time we can actually use them in combat
Healers… I'd say are like 50% of a DPS or so? Tanks are around like 65-70%? So all things combined, you got 2.5 DPS + the 4 DPS or so maybe – assuming everyone is playing fairly well
I'm leaning more towards Sage personally, the dark themes haven't really been my thing (I don't play Dark Knight either) – my jobs that I plan to play are Paladin, Astrologian, Scholar, Dragoon, Dancer and Red Mage (Red Mage is my main and I don't think I'm likely to switch off of these jobs)
Reaper summons a partner from the void , the reaper draws power from the void , reaper also is able to combine with the partner from the void to increase their power , this is what i got from the info , it might not be 100% correct but thats what i got from it.
I like reaper but I won't suffer the DPS queues lol I can still be edgy with my DRK, but I'll try Sage for sure!
What I like about the Reaper animations is that when the WoL is just doing Reaper moves, the colors are blue and black, but when merged with the Voidsent, the colors change to red and black. It's an easy visual indicator that makes sense, which is just good game design.
I can't wait to play both the new jobs and current jobs, since there will be new moves and changes (some big and some small) to those as well. 😀 It's so hard to wait til November.
Hey sprout jake, would be pretty cool if you tried to watch the vids without pausing as much at least for the first time viewing. just a thought, take care o/
just to make clear, this game is a mixture of a lot of themes but medieval/sci-fi is what it portrays more imo. This is not WOW or GW in terms of theme and story and this is "Square Enix" game before an MMO meaning they will use a lot of stuff from previous games as fan service and lore implementations to fuel the fans and the story. So the Sage class is something I have never seen as well but within this universe it would be expected, all im saying is they have enough of your "bread and butter" job classes and diverting and doing something new is what Square is best at IMO
Just going off on a little lore tidbit here, Sage in the other FInal Fantasy games are very much the opposite of Red Mage. Where Red Mage focuses on the damage dealing side of both Black and White magics, Sage focuses on the beneficial and healing side. So when Red Mage was first announced, I may have been calling Sage out as our next healer for the next 4 years lol!!
