That guild looks like a fun bunch of goofs indeed. First thing i wondered though was how to get a cerberus myself…
Anyways, i almost got roped in that weird tradition as well when some mentioned it would be one of the hardest i'd face before some told them to be nice and don't lie since it was one of the easiest and quickest one.
Those 6 might be some of the more active goofballs that i remember, but they are amusingly enough also some of the more honest ones there. If something is easy, they'll just say it instead of trying to hype it up and all. On the other side however, there is a lot of time spent talking about how and when to pet lalafels, why one of them always gets hit and killed whenever he does pet them instead of miqo'te and random stuff about eating lalafels or using them as cannonballs. Like i said, goofballs 😀
I never got the "Cape Westwind is so hard" thing when I was a spirit and only found out about it later and was so disappointed.
This pretzel delivery got out of hand when it escalated to murder. Since then their has been spelunking, deicide, statecraft, humanitarian aide, vinification, cause for vendetta, thanatology, detectiving, gemology, the discovery and creation of artifical life with genuine emotion followed closely by the abandonment of that same artifical life with genuine emotion, espionage, and now large scale war.
so excited for next episode >:3 this is my favorite playthrough on youtube!!
GET PSYCHED!
Hello, and welcome today's Spoiler Free, Not Necessary for the Enjoyment of the Story Lore Comment! Today, we're going to cover 3 smaller items.
First, let's talk about all this coordination between the city-states of Eorzea. The term "Eorzean Alliance" is thrown around sometimes, but let's really get down to what this Alliance is and why this little Risk map of Eorzea is so important. The Eorzean Alliance is not a new concept; this alliance was first formed nearly a century ago during the Autumn War. U'lDah, Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and the Holy See of Ishgard came together to defeat the invading army of Ala Mhigo. That's right, the Eorzean Alliance was formed to to stop one Eorzean city-state from attacking the others. And for a time, this cooperation continued. But not all things last. Ishgard would withdraw from the alliance, and the next time that these bonds would be tested at the Battle of Carteneau, Ishgard would be nowhere to be seen. Since the 7th Umbral Calamity, the Eorzean Alliance has been effectively defunct. The words of kinship may still be on paper, but there has been no will to fulfill them. Today changes this, as the threat of the Ultima Weapon has forced the city-states to band together once more. Operation Archon will be the largest coordinated action since Carteneau. Should Durmin & his fellows win the day, this will mark the first step towards a return to the cooperation that persisted through much of the 6th Astral Era.
Second, let's talk about Cape Westwind. As Dan notes, this is the first 8 player duty in the game, and is a taste of what players can expect in the future. And yes, Dan is correct, veterans love hyping up this duty as the hardest fight in the game. But the minimum item level version of this fight is, in fact, very hard. It has point blank AOEs, additional enemies that will target healers if not intercepted, and missile strikes that can even cut down a distracted tank player. While some of this difficulty comes from the fact that most players never actually learn any of the mechanics of the fight under normal circumstances, it can be surprisingly challenging. One other bit of information is that Dan's team is not the typical make up for an 8 player duty. Usually, the standard formation is 2 tanks, 2 healers, and 4 DPS (effectively double a 4 player duty). Dan's team only has 1 tank, which they can do because they are entering the duty as a preformed party of 8. In theory, they could have entered as 8 DPS players (and probably have run Cape Westwind without a problem either). Dan's team make up of 1 tank, 2 healers, and 5 DPS is how the 24 player duties are designed, with 3 of these 8 player teams.
Finally, let's talk about ceruleum. Ceruleum is a viscous, blue hued liquid that is pumped from underground reservoirs. It's FFXIV's stand in for oil, fueling most of the Empire's magitek. Ceruleum must be refined to be usable in most machina, and can be combusted once in the refined state. This can lead to intense fires & explosions if handled incorrectly (although sometimes these fires & explosions are on purpose). Almost all Castrums have ceruleum reserves for fuel, and the Imperial Army is reliant on this blue lifeblood, as much as food and water. As a result, ceruleum rich locations are key strategic assets for the empire, such as Bluefog (so named for ceruleum vapors). The Empire first began working with ceruleum due to a vast reservoir found just outside the capital, and it has fueled both their military and their civilian machina for decades.
Next time! We talk about unskippable cutscenes, and skippable mechanics!
Is Thancred La Habrea (however you write it) no matter which town you start in? Or do you interact with him regardless of your starting point?
On the one hand you really shouldn't forget about a doomsday weapon. On the other hand if everyone forgets about a doomsday weapon, maybe its better it stays forgotten.

"Saved your life!!"
I wish I could like this video more than once just for Lady Jingle showing up to wish you well. 😆
Aw, Dantalos Company AND Lady Jingle there to see you off! Awesome! That was really heartwarming!
I love the image of a completely silent Durmin psyching people up… and it WORKING!
Ahh I'm so glad you showed the party at Westwind!! It was so fun – I was on N'yalisaie, the whole Nyamily was there! You can see I fell off the rock behind Durmin, I spent a while trying to get back up…
Most successful military plans are a lot less complicated than this.
I feel like Rhitatyn had to have been a roegadyn under that armor. Only one other race is massive enough for it, and their legs are put together differently. Of course, they could have been using a different model to sub for that race, they've done that a few times…
Curcurilian here! It was my very first time going into the Cape Westwind fight!
The trolling false hype only makes this fight sadder. I'm VERY glad there's a fight much latter that uses his concept (from the original drawings and notes) and makes the fight feel worth it.
It is so fun trolling new players into thinking Cape Westwind is a super hard fight when it's over in a minute. I have had the pleasure of doing it to one of my friends. This comes up in Trials Roulette on rare occasion, and the last time it did, a few of us unequipped all of our gear barring our weapons for funsies.
Oh, I was standing on that cliff in western thanalan chatting with FC people for like 20 minutes and I never realized Durmin had run past me. Amazing xD
18:49 I just need to say how utterly respectful Rhitahtyn's being here. He figures out the entire phase 1 of the strategy the moment he sees you, tells his subordinates to get out while they can, and makes an effort to counter to the overall strategy in doing so. Because he knows you're badass and will treat you accordingly. I appreciate that kind of thing in an antagonist.
Ah yes, Cape Westwind, the most difficult trial in the game, clearly. xD More seriously, might be fun to try it min item level no echo just to see what happens. So many of these fights have mechanics that just…don't happen even when level sync'd as you still have the best gear possible for that point of the game.
I'm really curious, what are the emotes that Kunoh'a Sezu used at the start of Cape Westwind, at 20:48? I love those tokusatsu poses 😆
The continent looks kinda like africa. 🌍
black waltz cosplay on point
The fact that people were waiting for you and cheering you on for the trial made me really happy. I'm glad you had footage of it!
20:22 Oh wow, I never noticed that before! As soon as that line plays, and Rhitahtyn says "But if you are deaf to reason…" the song changes to "Steel *Reason*", the title of the garlean leader theme. that's such a nice and thoughtful touch, I'm really impressed.
Ok, since I'm a linguist, I think I feel qualified to wade into the field here regarding pronouncing astrologian.
So, I want to start by saying that the word astrologian did once exist in English, and it came from the French word astrologien. It has fallen out of the lexicon of the modern language, however, and as such doesn't have a standard pronunciation. Furthermore, almost no one actually speaks General American English in the US – we almost all speak a dialect. As such, even if GAE's rules say it should be pronounced one way, your dialect may differ, and that doesn't mean your dialect is "wrong" in any way. What I'm saying is that however you want to pronounce it, go for it!
Ok, at its core the dispute is one of stress patterns. I'll denote a stressed syllable with a ' before it and I'll separate syllables with dashes. For instance, baker is 'ba-ker, control is con-'trol. So the question is whether principle stress falls on "stro" or on "lo". That is, is it pronounced a-'stro-lo-gian or a-stro-'log-ian. The latter might also have secondary stress on the a- depending on the speaker.
Now, if you break down the word astrologian, it is composed of three morphemes: astro-, -log, and -ian. For our purposes here, what a morpheme really is isn't important – just think of it as the smallest chunk of a word that has its own meaning, even if it can't occur on its own. Now, that final morpheme, -ian, is the key. With a few notable exceptions, if a word in General American English has a suffix that starts with an i, such as -ic, -ion, -ity, or something like that, then the stress occurs on the syllable immediately before this ending. The exceptions are the suffixes -ing, -ize, -ism, and -ist. As a few examples, 'dic-tate, dic-'ta-tion, 'ca-lo-rie, ca-'lor-ic. This rule takes precedence over almost all other pronunciation rules, which is why these are sometimes called "strong suffixes." That means, given the -ian suffix, primary stress is placed on -log, and hence a-stro-'log-ian is what one would expect as the pronunciation in GAE.
"Your stirring gesticulation" is a magnificent way of describing that weird little squatting emote.
I would be interested in knowing what your team was seeing while you were slowly narrating the cut-scene.
The Dantalus Theater company coming out to greet Dan/Durmin fight their first 8 man (for that character) legitimately made me cry. This is one of the best communities. ;-; :') I also LOVE that tradition of talking up the first 8-man, that's hilarious.
That was a really nice reception the Company put together for Durmin. It's a shame we didn't get to experience your reaction in real time, but I'm glad we at least got to see it.
And Lady Jingle too!
Oh heck, is Durmin joining the Jingle pact too? 😂
I love seeing Dan Jones' consistency with Lady Jingle's brand everywhere she appears!
I'm in the earlier video episodes, but I came here to ask how did he get to level 70? It happens in episode 6. I don't get it. There's also a new black bar to the right of the center HUD with a zero next to it. What's that about? Also, what are the little dots in the bottom right of the screen? So many questions! Hahaha please help
Nyzmeth with the Black Waltz cosplay! Nice! I'm loving these cosplays and outfits from pretty much everyone! The theater company has a great sense of fashion!
Praetorium's gonna be an interesting one around here.
Lady Jingle!
"That's not usually how empires work, my guy." LOL love it! Such sass!
I'm so glad that I was a part of the group at 15:50 (the catgirl on the flying blue slug). I waited like 2.5 hours but it was worth it 😊
One thing you don't want to do with a doomsday weapon is use it.
Eorzea (and Durmin) expects that every soldier will do their duty.
I'm sure the normal rule of "when a plan is explained, something will go wrong," won't apply here, since that wouldn't be as fun to play, but at the same time, I've got the nerves in me that I always do, ever since someone pointed out that weird little trope of fiction.
The cheering up the garrison section was actually a lot longer in ARR originally, including passing out soup to soldiers.
This was removed for pacing reasons when ARR was streamlined in late 2020, early 2021.
