  1. FF14 has literally always been woke wtf😂 I played that game for like 2 months and the community is completely made of all those mentally ill people from Twitter 😂

  2. I am playing through the Dawntrail story now and are about halfway done so I don't know the ending they are talking about, but I would not call Dawntrail and Wuk Lamat "woke".

The saying "Every problem looks like a nail if you are a hammer" is more true than Zack realises since I can see how people looking in from the outside can mistake Wuk Lamat for a woke character since she shares similar patterns with "girl boss" or "strong female characters" in western media but there is a bit more nuance there.

Wuk Lamat is not written as a "girl boss" character, she is written as a Shonen character (Luffy, Naruto, etc) and that character type shares patterns with a girl boss character but there are distinct differences. The reason why she is written as a Shonen character is likely because she is a new central character who our character is almost a mentor for and Shonen characters are by far the most popular character type in Japanese media.

This situation honestly looks like a result of people on both sides having become hyper defensive and reactionary to defend their IP from DEI infiltration once they recognise certain patterns.

Though then again I haven't finished the story yet myself so I could be wrong.

  3. Been replaying Baldur's Gate 3, and the writing, voice actors, and character animations make that game. It's just so good with it's story. When I go from playing BG3 to seeing that FF14 clip, it's just so bad.

  4. The VA's performance is bad, nothing to do if it was a he or she. The VA constantly drops the fake accent, can't scream because the VA is trying to sound feminine and generally can't emote.
If they wanted a voice actor that is trans they should have picked an actual VA that does theater, and not just some youtube shorts. If he/she is skilled at their role then I don't care what VA does the character.

  5. I didn't find anything wrong with the character other than her being annoying at times. Who characters are voiced by mean little to me. Just because someone happens to be of a specific race or orientation does not mean that their selection was intentional. What I took issue with the expansion is how it's split into two parts and the whole first part being boring AF. Stormblood had a similar issue where like 70% of the game was in around the far east and then we did a speed run through Ala Mhigo at the end.

  6. I don't really have an issue with the VA per say (other than her delivery being terrible), the issue is that the character itself is fucking absolute dogshit, coupled with one of the worst RPG stories I've ever played through.

  7. I gotta admit I don’t care that English VA for Wuk is trans but I had to mute and skip their dialogue most of the time. It’s just so grating and obnoxious.

  8. This reminds me of when Disney were blaming racism against Moses Ingram (Reva) for Obi-Wan Kenobi bombing like it did. It has to be {fill in the blank} it can't be that it sucks on it's own faults.

  9. The problem is the writing. I'm willing to let a VA settle into a role for a bit and get better. The problem with Wuk Lamat is on the game's part. I did not know the VA was trans until very recently nor do I really care. Alphinaud for example wasn't that great in HW and got way better over time.

She was unironically more likeable in her portrayal BEFORE Dawntrail in the transition patch. What happened? It's like she reverted into a worse character.

  10. I personally didn't enjoy the first 60% of the story much at all, though it had little to do with her being trans, I only learned about that after finishing. The issue is just the writing overall felt kind of flat and generic to me.

I don't really watch anime, but people compared it a lot to a shonin, power of friendship kinda thing, and I could see that. The first arc just felt like it was really surface level, and didn't dig deep enough into the characters to really be interesting. Or I've heard people call it the Disney Expansion, and yeah.. Kinda get that vibe too. Its fine for what it is, I know a lot of people who enjoyed it, but it just feels a little less interesting then what's came before it.

I'll say, the last zone is really well done though, and even if most of the story didnt resonate with me, I think the final zone and what it's trying to do/say worked incredibly well. Ultimately, they married Gameplay with Story, and they push the message to the player by having direct consequences that can never be undone knowing its the right thing to do, and I think it just worked out really well.

Overall though, Personally I really don't care, I don't play the game for the MSQ, and outside of the MSQ, I think this Expansion has been really great so far. The only other real complaint I have is that all the classes new skills seem like the same idea of just… When you press your CD, Now it turns into a new ability to use, which is a bit repetitive, like it makes it feel a bit less interesting when every class gets the exact same new toys, but they've also said that the next Xpac is focused on redesigning class identity, so hopefully there's going to be bigger changes to resolve the class design issues.

  11. This is how it starts. You're sitting there saying it's not a big deal but just wait until more wokeness creeps in and suddenly the game is infested. I'm not going to waste my time on it.
