I think the reason they are making the starting dungeons more solo is because anyone who tries to play through another play through finds it hard to find a party as they are going through early content.
Dungeon content can be intimidating for sprouts, and this is a way to introduce them to it–like a practice mode. It's not mandatory, and for those seeking groups the Duty Finder will always be there.
Actually, I won't be shocked if it encourages MORE people to try group content.
I've played this game solo since it released on PS. I work a lot and I have wife and kids that I don't want to deprive them of my time. Also because I don't have an abundance of time I don't want to waste others time or be a burden cause I can't put in the necessary time to be optimal on the character I choose to play. (Monk) I know the community is for the most part helpful but thats my feeling. Ever since the Trust System I've been having more fun because there is no pressure on my progress or development. Would I like to do end game stuff HELLZ YEAH, but atm solo is where its at for me.
The friction between casual and hardcore players will only get worse. How worse will depend on how the new relic weapons are going to be handled. There's no way to avoid it at this point.

I always play FFXIV solo, but not because I don't enjoy party content, I just don't enjoy it as much in the FFXIV design structure. I prefer playing the game play of FFXIV as a solo experience. I preferred playing FFXI as a multiplayer experience.
i think yoshi p cares toooo much about casuals.. and im a casual
The game is already Solo, as it doesn’t offer split screen.
Yoshi-P doesn’t make sense.
The problem with being solo friendly is when you start catering to them and make it so that you don't need to have actual skill to progress stuff (which is what LotRO did and made that game feel wholly unrewarding solo wise). If we're talking about keeping all of the boss mechanics in place, and basically letting the solos run with NPCs, that's about as far as FFXIV should go.
I'm sorry, but you're not hot enough to match the search results for that name. Not that I'm advocating doing so, but those search results are also surprisingly wholesome… at least at the time of writing.
Oh yea, that’s why we play mmorpgs, to play alone.
the first time i tried FF14 i quit because one my mandatory MSQ dungeons had a 30min estimated queue time.
the game's starting experience is already pretty bad, having to wait potentially 15+ minutes in a queue is definitely a quitting point for people (as it was for me), and making those dungeons soloable with npcs is one way to reduce that pain point
I love the move to make it more solo friendly. I want to play through the story again but I don't wanna have to deal with the hassle of partying up, so being able to go in with NPCs is super convenient for me. I agree I'd like to see it allow 2 or 3 players and fill with NPCs though, I might wanna run through it with the missus at some point.
The old EQ forced grouping thing, mindset died a long time ago. It's best left dead and buried.
When I tried this game, it didn't take long for me to find a group for my first MSQ dungeon. Maybe a few minutes or so. The problem was after completing the dungeon, I had no idea what the dungeon was really like. We moved at lightning speed, the tank pulled massive numbers, everyone did their jobs but I never got to explore. It was just a blur. I would love to party up in a dungeon I knew well and had explored but this "play at someone else's speed" the first time through was dismal. This is the reason I hate forced grouping games. This is the main reason I quit FF14. It just wasn't fun.
If the trust/Duty system is implemented throughout the game I might be back. We will see.
"Things I think are black and white are things I haven't stared at long enough to see the grey." Damn man. That's well said.
Solo is the future of mmorpgs most casual never run raids and will never ask npc raids dung BELONGS TO CASUALS(hardcore dung are the only place with pvp casuals and hardcores meet ) . Most ffxiv has a huge beef with elitist vs casual . Sadly elitism in ffxiv are more toxic in ffxiv then in most mmos.
Do the arr trusts give tomestones? I know ShB n EW don't so you still need parties for them n raids.
Bro why would anyone who wants to play a JRPG play one where you have to buy multiple expansions AND a subscription? For $60 you can get a full JRPG. Idk what Yoshi P is thinking. Like if I was a new person to FF why would I play FF14 over FF7R or waiting next year for FF16, both games which don't have PS3 graphics and updated UI and more interesting quests than talk to some dude or kill 5 cactaurs? Plus steam versions you can run with mods and not have an overly parasocial community witchhunt you.
The soloable factor of this game is WHY I still play it! I love dungeons, and playing with other people. If anything it made me more open to group play. But those wait times got more and more annoying, and the ability to do it with npc's in Shadowbringers was a HUGE boost for me to be playing through the game.
I like the option of doing your own thing, or grouping up. I don';t have people who play the game like I do, and finding people always introduces a timezone issue. And even if you can overcoem that, no guarantee you'll even LIKE each other long term (speaking from experience).
Yesterday someone posted on Twitter about how a certain Lala on Crystal was legally blind and that if you meet her in game to please be more considerate to her mistakes. My initial thought was to just set up a macro to explain her situation, I doubted anyone would lack enough comparison as to kicking her or refusing to co-operate with her disability.
The picture got posted to a Discord I'm in, a pretty big one for players on my DC and amazingly the general consciousness was "If you're holding players back, you shouldn't be in this content" "I have glasses too but I don't make excuses?" "I don't see why they can't just run it with their FC? You shouldn't drag random people to your level"
I was honestly pretty stunned.
guess square realised how truly toxic the community really were i guess lol
I'm here for it. Make 14 both a solo and massively multiplayer game. It does not have to be one or the other.
Something that attracts me to a game is the character customization and I love the one in ffxiv, also the ability to play many classes/job on the same character, among other things that makes the game interesting to me, however, I don't want to play an mmo. So the idea of giving solo players a chance to experience the game sounds nice to me. That said, I understand it is an mmo so I don't expect to have all the content and rewards available to me if I want to play solo. I think it's cool that msq dungeons have the option to be completed solo (with npc's I guess) or groups, and that there is more difficult content that requires a group that gives their respective rewards that a solo player won't get.
