  1. Seeing Elidibus’ first scenes here again is so interesting given much later developments. I can’t elaborate or vague without spoilers, but seeing the beginnings compared to what’s to come is so good.

  2. Reading that journal's item description is what made me go and look up some 1.0 lore videos because it sounded completely insane for what was apparently supposed to be a serious tragic backstory.

  3. Little thing I noticed: between Durmin going to talk to Urianger and running back to Minfilia after Elidibus's visit, Minfilia apparently had packed up the broken staff on display behind her desk. The wall is bare. It's a nice touch, essentially finalizing the move.

  4. Dan's not kidding about the silly music. The first time I fought King Moggle Mog I was in the zone and then out of the corner of my… ear? I heard the line "She'll poke you in the gut and give you tummy aches!" and I went "wait, what?" and lost focus for a solid couple seconds and immediately got ganked by overlapping AOEs.

  5. AFAIK, Thancred having a crush on Minfilia is disputed. Some think it’s entirely platonic and sibling like, others (like me) think it was a one sided crush. It’s complicated and those with better knowledge of 1.0 can confirm or deny my observations based on The Discourse. (And yes, it is Discourse. Bc modern fandom. Gods save me ugh.)

  6. 🎵Good King Moggle Mog, Good King Mog, pumpkins scream in the dead of night…🎵
Quick question: is the quest "A Reoccurring Problem" no longer mandatory? Or am I misremembering when you have to have it and the subsequent quests done before continuing the MSQ?

  7. Oh hey! I'm glad I actually I can watch this series since I've now caught up with most of Heavensward and I've actually bought the game. I've been really enjoying it.

  8. 29:32: In American English it’s pronounced sa·lyuh·TEH·ree. In British English it’s sa·LYOO·tuh·ree.
Given that with the upcoming expansion, the English voice recording moves from LA to the UK, I’d say the latter is the more correct one in this instance.

  9. I %100 think the dialogue is a lot more digestible. (It could be that I've watched enough, but it definitely feels more like lines even the expository dialogue that characters remember sound like they're coming through a specific personality.)

  10. I'd like some confirmation from someone who knows music theory a little better than I do, but I'm 90% sure that Moggle Mog's theme is just the Moogle theme from FF 5, rearranged into a minor key.

  11. Very hyped for the Crystal Tower stuff. It's been a good while since I saw the plot for that so it will be very good to get a refresher on it. There's some stuff in those quests that has very small hints even as far forward as Endwalker (though for spoiler reasons I won't say what or give any further indication).

While Crystal Tower is the only raid sequence that is mandatory for story progression, the others do provide a lot of additional context and information that can be very helpful for understanding the story as a whole (to a greater or lesser degree), particularly as we get later on in the game. Later expansions also add a "trial series" – another semi-self contained storyline that features 3 boss fights. These tend to be a bit more self-contained, though they also add some very nice lore and context, particularly in Heavensward.

  12. good king moggle mog, good king mog/lord of all the land, kupo! i heard that song long before i knew anything about ffxiv, and it's been stuck in my head ever since. i was fortunate enough to get into thornmarch the first time with a good party who explained the mechanics and put markers on the moogles you're supposed to take down first.

"outlandish man" hA! i can't remember if i got the crystal tower questline from him or from someone in the camp place to the (south?)east. i was kinda headless-chickening from all the blue unlock quests after arr. i do remember getting through it long before it would have roadblocked me on the msq bc it had an engaging story AND i had just watched a game movie of ffiii so i was catching some of the references.

  13. You know what's the most terrifying thing about Good King Mog fight?

After the revamp to ARR that is coming in these 6.X patches, this will be the first time new players will have to party with other people.

This fight is already enough of a headache as it is, but after those new patches not only will you be teaching new players how to do the fight, but just how to be in a party in general.

  14. More patch, more lore! It's time for your spoiler-free lore comment!

Today's episode wraps up patch 2.1, which was released in December 2013. This is punctuated by the achievement that Durmin receives at the end of the episode, which is the name of the patch, A Realm Awoken.

Let's talk about what has been removed from this patch. Originally, the player was given a series of quests in Revenant's Till which served as an introduction to the new home if the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Also, we began a recurring type of quest where Tataru attempts to broaden her horizons. We'll talk more about Tataru's storyline later, when some of her quests are showcased.

And yes, if you feel like Thornmarch's music feel very Nightmare Before Christmas, you're not the only one to notice this!

  15. I'm surprised you didn't try to sing This is Halloween during the King Moogle fight. They sound so similar. The song is not a rip-off, but I can't help but think of "This is Halloween" especially the Kingdom Hearts version while you were fighting. They even kind of have similar lyrics.

  16. I can't resist from pointing out that caravans were much more useful than what said here. A single or couple individuals were weak, easily picked up by bandits. A caravan though had the force of a small army, and could protect its travelers quite well. That said, caravans were always big events, and gathered lots of attention, so not good if you wanted a low profile.
