Let's not mince words, the housing situation is a disaster. I can understand if they have physical limitations with account data and such, but if that's the case there should be a reservation list first-come-first-served so you don't need to do ridiculous things like clicking a signpost for 36 hours or botting it, and this would also guarantees that one day it will be your turn, even if you can't wake up at 5 AM when new wards are added. The system is completely broken right now and encourages unhealthy ways to play the game.
My brother got us an FC house. He got super lucky. Just walked up to a house that no one was at and got it.
I spent something like 20+ hours clicking on a sign over and over and over before that.
I would at the very least like it if they just did a raffle system for house. There is no reason to have people standing there trying to buy a house for hours at a time.
Let everyone who wants to buy the house buy a raffle then let them be on their way till whenever the drawing happens.
Thank god, I bought my medium when my server (Coeurl) was one of the smallest servers in the game. At that point, most of the housing had empty plots for the exception Limsa housing area.
buy or owning a housing is a nightmare indeed no one can argue about that, but the other thing that make housing to me personally less appealing is the fact that it's a ghost town area, i personally have a lovely FC where most of our members Sit in the FC house garden and gather there which is to me personally the most wonderful area in the game (we are like 10 or 15 people all around making the House lively) and whenever we get a new recruit who is new to housing they always ask why is the whole ward is dead and nobody there at all as if it was abandoned, and that is kinda in the community lacking side and i feel if the SE would look into it, for example they can add all tomestone vendors in housing areas and add more vendors there so we dont have to get out, right now the only advantage you can get if u own a house that is close to a MB is couple seconds earlier MB than the one in limsa.
i feel like if they added stuff that justify sitting in Housing districts it will be better and make housing more appealing, and i would hate instance housing as u cant communicate with your neighbors or people in your ward, personally i feel like auto demolish should be a 1 week limit instead of 45 days, it will have to do with make houses more lively and demolish faster
if someone not up to the struggle of going every week to visit their house then others will and better of owning the land.
Awful has no e
The timer is the only real issue I have with housing….otherwise its not hard to get a house. I have a large for my fc…and a medium for personal…and they werent hard to get….my sister got a medium easy…and my pops got a large easy…..players just need to go for one when wards open up. We are on Primal with large player base and it was difficult to get one.
It kinda sucks to be tied down by subscription to keep a house….but theres really no other way unless they started making persistant housing, which I hope they dont because of the designing community….I visit houses on multiple data centers
LOL….my video was blurry and I thought Chris lost a bet or something and shave the middle of his head
i really hope the farming zone they bring includes a house (or at least a plot) to let players have their own instanced house to ease this issue a bit. but i honestly feel like they should just go the nuclear route and only allow FC's to use the current system. while were on the topic, apartments could use a MAJOR revamp too. its currently just a lobby and a small room. let us be able to upgrade to different configurations or just flat size increases, and maybe even an outdoor deck/indoor garden or something so we can use a handful of outdoor furnishings.
As much as I love FFXIV there are several features in-game that could and should be improved, the main one being housing. For those of you who played and remember Wild Star the housing in the game was probably the most enjoyable feature and it was available to everyone, each player got a plot of land and was able to build anything they wanted and it was fucking amazing. Its a shame luck is the biggest contributing factor to getting purchasing a house in FF.
sad case people buy gil from rmt and complain they cant buy a house…FACT!
Great points and great suggestions
You should bring this up in the Q&A with the developers
So much self entitlement surrounding housing in this game. Combined with misinformation that SE helps perpetuate by hiding information has made it hell for the playerbase.
The community isnt interested in a real solution they are only interested in what gets them a plot ASAP. That they will let autodemo cause they cant be bothered to reset the timer on. smh
actually the biggest disapointment after getting a house is the Item place limit inside/outside o/
I actually hate everyone having the same house spot in the world. Nothing like 30 dudes walking in and out of your house.
I feel housing, due to isolation, is RP and market prioritized. I think they need to add the market 1-60 vendors to the housing areas, Collectibles vendor, replica armor vendors to housing areas, and As well enabling return set to your house. Giving player that priority to go to your house. Housing areas need some more things to make it livly.
I lucked out during the last house rush after I crashed and got into a massive que all the quick buy houses where gone and I then went to one of the older wards and found one at the top of the hill in the bowls of Ulda and nobody bothered me for my 13 hr. click session and then got my house I have grown attached to my little house on the hill ^^ but I do agree after that nerve racking 13 hr. Clicking hopping that nobody messes with it or quick swamped it the system is broken for the population size I am wondering if the new farming simulator system it's going to help alleviate that stress or not change that adding another 26 words is nice and all but it still doesn't help the population size maybe and 7.0 they'll fix it to a instant styled system that hey if your buddy's visiting your house they see your house but it's also their house and if they want you can see the house kind of dealio you know that way everybody can have a house if they can afford it in Gill instead of sweating profusely while madly clicking hoping to achieve a house for hours on end
Yeah, they do need to find some way to redo housing. Most other MMOs can let all players have housing, or not at all. It's never good to have features in an MMO that the vast majority are just blocked from using. Dev time and all that data space is going into features only a few even have access to while the rest of us need things like inventory space, glamour space, etc. It's like housing is taking a lot of resouces even though most of us paying the same sub, will never be able to use it. At least let me have an instanced house so I can use furnishings or use housing only features like coloring Chocobos. It's not fair to gate so much behind a feature they know the vast majority will never be able to use.
My brother had his house in FF14 stolen from him by his old FC back towards the end of Stormblood. Ever since then he's sworn off housing and FC's. Long story short, he bought the house he wanted after farming all expansion for it. He gave a couple people he thought were his buddies in the FC access so they could use the NPCs etc., etc. They decided to submit a ticket to Square Enix stating that they went 3 ways on a house and that my brother after buying it denied them access. And so SE transferred housing rights from my brother to one of them and threw a temp ban his way for good measure.
Thanks for giving us your opinion on this, although mine defers a bit. I have 2 small houses one is mine, I purchased it in hopes of the plot I want opening up so I can immediately transfer to it. Also I am a tenant at my boyfriend's house. It was difficult to get them but we just wait till they open up new wards. That's how we got houses. Also you mentioned the housing districts not being populate as a Introvert, my boyfriend and I like this "isolation" as you put it. Gives us a break from all the people that are in the popular areas. Kinda of a escape for us, if they made it more populated. That would really ruin that for us. Just thought I would add a different perspective! Happy gaming đ
Maybe they could add "luxury" plots to the existing wards. Make them huge gil sinks.
Easy fix just delete it
Aweful as in a play on full of awe? Or awful as in terrible?
I think the experience of having this area where there are a bunch of different houses is really cool. I think the best thing they could do is just make it 1 ward and all the plots are shared plots, that way you can choose whichever one you want, and just have the the other plots outward appearance cycle through all the houses on that plot each day. Idk if this would be possible, but I think it's the best solution.
If everyone owned the same house, would front yards just not exist anymore? I mean we already have apartments. I think people want the whole plot. And you canât share the entire plot if the yard is not instances at all.
I clocked a placard for 14 hours straight. 10 of those hours were competing with others. It was so melodramatic when I actually acquainted until it actually hit me. I started crying lol
Yup housing system as of 2021 is definitely broken, but do they have incentive to fix it? Not really.
The dev team has pointed out that they wanted housing to be a luxury item, an achievement of some sort – which gives the lucky ones something to brag about.
Now if you are in their shoes, will you make major changes? Probably not.
There is also the issue of breaking the economy of cash crops that stem from gardening plots – itâs not as serious but it does affect a portion of the player base.
What possibly will get fixed is probably the placard clicking and apartment size increase; these two are more easily adjusted but still will not be too radical enough to undermine the old.
SE probably never anticipated the demand would be so high after 7 years, and as an 2.0 era player, I myself didnât see this coming either (there were tons of empty plots because only fc had the resources to get a house).
So yeah, donât expect anything too radical to the current plot system – the only way it will get a big fix is through an expansion, and then they will grandfather the current plots.
They should absolutely look into a different type of system on the go forward. Something like Wildstar and now Genshin Impact had/have housing systems that are far more robust and freeing. Genshin has probably the most interesting system with the amount of land, multiple buildings, and customization.
Had a couple members of my FC and a large group of people trying to buy a house a few months back spending a good day sitting there clicking the sign just for someone to come along and buy the plot and plop their FC house there.
well said.
The housing sux cuz when new plots become available the 1st 10 people on the server buy up all the prime spots in the first 5 mins.
Don't care about speaking to random people. When I'm not feeling it. Have a full friends list and still no one to really play with.
Been takin a small break from xiv. Picked up eso again, thier housing system is so much better. Out in the world and instanced at the same time. Got a nice sized house for free during a greymoor archaeology event and its way bigger than my medium in xiv. The placement of objects and furnature is even better in eso cus you dont needa glitch to put items in the air or on the walls etc. Also its nice that it doesnt require me to stay subbed to keep it. However… if im not subbed to eso plus the ammount of decorations i can place is halfed(i think?…) which kinda sux
I wouldnât hate on your opinion, and anyone that does isnât worth your consideration. Discussions like these are how things improve. I feel like the only real way to improve it would be to reduce the timer for when it randomly pops. Make it so it goes up for sale within like three hours or something so no one has to sit for longer than that. Itâs probably as long as it is so more people have a chance to realize that a lot will be available in the near future, but it can be miserable for people that realize that early on and obsess over it. Increasing availability reduces its value greatly, thatâs why people arenât as interested in apartments. No one would want a house if thereâs a thousand wards, the amount of passerbyâs would be minimal, and the community in those districts would be way too spaced out. If the amount of houses would even come close to doubling I would have no interest in it at all. Instanced housing already exists in apartments, and those are the reasons that apartments arenât popular.
I love the housing system â but only once youâre in the system after purchasing the plot.
Instanced housing in other games like ESO, for example, makes housing an afterthought and the social value almost totally null and void.
My solution is this: fix the first time buyer system by making it a queue. A player can only be queued for one house at a time, and when the house goes up for sale, it randomly picks a player in the queue to purchase the house. The prompt to purchase is on a timer, similar to how dungeon queueing works, and if the player is afk or declines the purchase, the system would select another player sitting in the queue to purchase the house.
Pros for this system would be:
-maintain the barrier to entry for players attempting to buy whole wards with alts
-decrease the mental and physical demand of first time buyers buying a plot
âeliminates the need for bottling (which came as a result of the physical and mental demands put on the player to buy their first plot)
-brings a much more casual experience to the players interested in that content
Cons
-queue would potentially lock your character out of instanced leveling (by auto withdrawing upon queueing for dungeons, or requiring you to drop the housing purchase in order to queue for something else like a roulette)
-is more blatantly RNG as opposed to the illusion of player control while camping
Honestly canât think of any more cons but Iâd be happy to hear a rebuttal to the concept
I saw someone on reddit boasting about owning a few houses on several servers using gil they bought online and they even went as far as saying they feel not guilt
idk why people want housing. just give me a way to grow gardens without spending millions on a house or thousands on an apartment
add gardening and chocobo stables outside housing
As a new player who was really excited to come to a game with player housing from WoW, hearing it's so hard and expensive to get an actual house has really taken a lot of the wind out of my sails. I don't like the apartments or the company housing, and I feel like my dream of getting a house in Gridania will never come true. đ I would be willing to pay insane amounts of money to Square-Enix on the mog station just to get a house I could be happy with, but even that isn't an option. It just feels so hopeless. I never would have started playing this game if I knew how oppressively exclusionary the housing availability is, but now I'm deep in Heavensward and I'm caught between how much I'm enjoying the story as if this were a single-player RPG, and how left out of my most desired MMO feature, housing, I feel as an MMO player.
Perhaps they could implement some kind of lottery system in the game for purchasing houses. You click on the sign and it assigns you a random number, if you're on it pops a notification and you get the first shot at buying it, if not it passes your number and goes onto another random drawing. I'm not saying it would be the best system, but it would take away from having to stand at the sign clicking every few seconds and would erase the chance that a bot might beat you to it.
