  1. Adding this many external furnishings to IS feels like they're stress testing the item placement limit increase Yoshi P mentioned at PAX
Plus a lot of those items in the design contest look like they just wouldn't fit in a small plot but would work nicely on an island. Already half planning some ideas but trying to temper expectations since this is probably going to be broken and jank for the first patch or two.

  2. Houses are lost because they are NOT really instanced – so freeing unused plots is kinda justified. The Island Sanctuary IS instanced, so it can't really be justified to lose the items you placed there if you neglect it for too long.
My dream for Island Sanctuary: A vacation home! No garden or striking dummy is fine, it's for relaxation after all. But indoor like a medium plot (house) & outdoor like a mansion, it's MY island – space is not at a premium 🙂
Preferably with IS specific look, but possible to use other walls, roof and so on.
    One can dream….

  3. I hope at some point they add a plot that will work as a housing plot in the sanctuary. Since it is instanced, not loaded unless the owner is INSIDE it and not shared, it would likely never need a demolishing timer either, so it'll serve like an apartment. The ONLY reason housing plots have a demolishing items is because they are a finite amount per server, to keep people from hoarding them. If they add actual instanced housing interiors for the island, I do hope they experiment with other layouts for the interior.
And yeah, that spriggan is the boss model of 'Ziggy' from the Antitower, and in Matoya's relict there is a Sonny of Ziggy with the same model. It is fairly cute but I wonder what it'll drop. Most likely the new area (or one of them) will be a mine inside the mountain.

  4. To each their own I guess, me the Sanctuary Island was the answer to the housing crisis. I wanted an Ishgard house SO BADLY and got punted by the lottery 8 times in a row. I finally just gave up but fell in love with my island and found it more relaxing. What's more it suits my character to a T. Sunayo is a bit of a lone wolf who values her privacy and an island where she can go to for spear fishing, gathering, tending to her animal friends, gardening and the occasional construction project suits her well. That and items you can get make getting cowries worth farming, especially if you're an endgame gathering/crafting beast like myself. I can't tell you how many times the cowrie system saved me from splurging the usual 30 million + gil for a pentamelding system that seems custom made to make your life a living hell.😖😖😖

  5. I can imagine 90 furniture slots is an easy thing, if you consider the housing areas are neighborhoods full of houses with outdoor furnishings, it’s a much higher load on the engine because the instance itself has limits. 🤔

  6. This is great news. It makes me far more excited for the new outdoor items from the Furnishing Design Contest. I'm hoping special furniture doesn't include letter boxes & miniature aetherytes. Also can't wait to put a Namazu Effigy outside of my Boiling bathhouse.

  7. Those poor animals 😢

I soon as I login, I always feed the animals and water the garden. ❤

    I'm just about to hit 400k Cowries😅

Definitely lots of potential the devs can expand from Island Sanctuary

  8. This is great and all, wonderful if fact, but they need to fix that glitch that kicks ppl off their own island if they want to ppl to treat this like an actual alternative to housing. It all feels like an "Island Timeshare", srsly wtf

  9. Somehow I feel like Island Sanctuary released unfinished, with just the barebones level of functionality, only to be spoonfed a feature or two every few months. And interestingly enough, that's exactly what happened with the latest Animal Crossing game, which had a very high success due to the global lockdowns, so maybe they thought they could afford releasing it in that state given that precedent.

Having outdoor furnishing is an important step, but in the end just being able to decorate your lifeless daily grind interface isn't going to be enough. Maybe it was on this channel that I made that comment a few months back, but imo the island really is missing a new and improved squadron feature, where you could recruit sidequest npcs from around the world, that would be good and bad at certain things, to employ at your island instead of having those boring robots for everything.

Part of good design is making all the mechanics of your game interact, make one feed the others and vice versa, if you take all the ingredients we have available in the game you can imagine pretty much anything, like for example setting up a triple triad arena where you can battle your npcs, or even assign them decks for people to come and challenge them like a pokemon gym, there could be tons of applications.

  10. My pasture is full of the rare animals. I hope they give us more space in the pasture because I don't want to have to release one of my existing rares for the new ones 😢

  11. I'm definitely hyped for more island sanctuary upgrades. Fishing is the number one thing I hope they'll incorporate at some point. And even though they told us from the outset it's not intended as a substitute for housing, I hope they go back on that at some point. Houses are just prohibitively expensive for many players, and a lot of players buy up multiple houses, leaving a lack of available houses for people. This would be a great alternative to that. I also wish they'd make it more like Animal Crossing. Going back to the island with each patch is fun, but I, too, abandon my island once I've done everything. If they're incorporate things we could do between patches, that would keep me engaged with it more consistently.

  12. I don't imagine housing items in the Island Sanctuary will elapse during inactivity because the only reason it's the case for houses is because of scarcity. Island Sanctuaries are unique to a player, so one guy filling up his housing sanctuary to the brim and then unsubbing doesn't take away from another person who wants to do the same.

And yeah, I really, really, really hope they're pulling the plug and gradually turning island sanctuary into instanced housing, including interiors. There's enough space there to accommodate a large house if they were to integrate it, and it would fix the housing crisis problem forever. Housing could finally just be a fun opt-in experience for everyone rather than this lottery that makes you cross your fingers week after week or chains you to the game when you don't feel like playing it. They've now given everybody who finished Endwalker their own personal island zone (that they are expanding in 6.4) that is instanced and specific to a person and able to save changes made to it. They're basically beyond 80% there on what is required for Instanced Housing. The big hurdle has been cleared. It would be a supreme waste of development potential if they now said "uh, nope, we're not going to go all the way, we're sticking with this old housing system that makes most people unhappy."

If anything comes from Island Sanctuary, I hope it's that, at the very least.

On the other hand, there's the other side of the coin which is actual Island Sanctuary-specific activities, and I feel like rather than create more gathering activities, they should try to add things that are more like GATEs from the Golden Saucer. Just pure fun ways to spend time with rewards if you keep doing it.

  13. I can't wait to see more of this. I would love to have that clocktower were one of my windmills is just because right now I have two of them up with one right above the little workshop village and the other by my pastor or maybe depending on what we get I may keep my two windmills & just put the clocktower in a different spot
