  1. One thing to help temper expectations is to know that 14 very much likes to setup its story beats. Gotta have the slow lows before you get your highs. But believe me when I say it's all worth the wait

  2. 🤣😂🤣 "I am so sick of happy endings."

    Wait for it…

Ok, a couple quick notes. Yes. ARR can drag at times, but most of it is super relevant to everything that comes after. They've already trimmed a lot already.

The FF franchise has always taken inspiration from Star Wars. I mean, didn't you recognize Cid's minions? Wedge and Biggs…aka Red Squad.

A lil'bit of 1.0 lore. Minfilia WAS a M'qote for awhile. She used a fantasia to hide.

  4. Indo recommend to mix the msq with some of the extra stuff you can do (dungeons, treasure hunts, etc) to break up the pace. But truly you want to do Crystal tower and Coils of Bahamut, both have important story that both explains some things about the lore of the world and close some 1.0 threads and backstory of the twins but also it will set some threads that will be important in future expansions. Plus they are fun raids.

  5. The post-ARR patches are a bit of a slog, probably with a psychological element due to not leveling up, but they're packed with lore and exposition that set up the subsequent story; e.g. primals not being restricted to false deities summoned by beast tribes.

  6. New player here that is about at the same spot as you. Agree that the content in between ARR's conclusion and the first expansion is kind of meh, though it does end with a bang. And it's actually even worse because on top of the main story line, you're forced to do some blue quests before you can move on to the expansion.

Another problem is that if you like to do anything else in between the main story quests, by the time you reach Heavensward, you're heavily outleveling it. I was level 57 just by doing the daily Duty roulettes and a dungeon every now and then.

I'm okay with it though, it's really a first world problem to be complaining about too much content.

  7. I recommend to watch the noclip documentary as we were supposed to fight Leviathan instead of Moogle but they had to delay it due to the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan. Releasing levi at the time would be insensitive.

  8. ARR has a great story. It is the pacing of it that really ruins it for me. I think Square has a huge problem to face with how to keep this story while also improving the gameplay.

  9. ARR is the "root" of the game. It's nothing fancy, the story is indeed the basic concept of a story… FOR "ARR" specifically… Post ARR sets up further lore, defines the boundaries, and world builds. Albeit slowly…. its a necessary evil because HW, SB, ShB, and EW all use ARR's plot and world building to go further. If I could compare it to anything, its like when people were tired of "origin movies" for super heroes. They get tired of seeing the explanation of why X gains X power and how they become X. Instead, they want to see the meat, the fighting, the battles, the new villain, the character building, the changes in development for the story and characters included…. But you just can't have that WITHOUT the origin existing to begin with. Its a bit boring, it can feel stale at points, but it defines the world you're in and explains the logic of the adventure and what everyone's capable of.

This is all typically repeated in a shortened format by many players, and that phrasing is typically heard as, "It gets better". Except in this case…. it actually does.

  10. Funny thing is that endgame in FF14 isn't just quests, duties, and pvp, it's buying a house, lvling up trades and other jobs, and whatever the players make of it. For some, the endgame is rping and forming bonds with other players as they're now able to travel to every part of ARR. Hell, one of the pieces of endgame I got to witness when I was taking a break from the MSQ was watching players performing a concert in Lindsa and just spent an hour or two listening to them play different songs (half of which I knew).
