  1. I don't understand why your gear in the portrait has to be the same gear you're wearing for it to work. That's dumb. Just take a picture and always use that picture, no matter what my character actually looks like, unless I choose to change the picture. Work smarter, not harder.

  2. The DMV photo uses the gear you're equipped with. I don't understand why that changing what was used in the portrait has to break the poses and other things a portrait has, when it clearly recognizes what you have on now.

  3. Gear updates fine, even confirms that the gear set registered. Canceling the portrait update does what fiddling with gear has so far done, breaks the portrait.

Why you might want to do that may be bc you just updated your crimson themed RDM coat into a baby blue and the queue pops, so you go. But the portrait doesn't seem out of place with crimson themes and a jackass with their baby blue coat on. That's really the one reason I can imagine you would even be asked if you wanted to update an existing portrait.

Or maybe the updated version somehow shows your character in an erotic light? I got bonked for an inappropriate portrait a good while ago so maybe the devs want you to be extra accountable for what the end result looks like?

  4. This is DEFINITELY a step in the right direction. Just another fix (or two) and it should work as intended. I’m now looking forward to updating my portrait more regularly.

  5. Its just another bandage on a bandage on another bandage. They really need to rework this system and look at WOW, ESO, GW2 they all have far superior gear systems with collecting and saving it. I mean FFXIV sure has the best glamour but whats the point when i cant do anything with it in the large picture…

  6. I dont get why you think it is not working as intended!!
You make a change in your gear and then you say to the portrait system "do not update it"
Then you go into the portrait and you wonder why it is broken? Cause you pressed "cancel"!!

  7. 5:13 But it can't go to the "last working option" because it no longer exists. The portrait system is designed to reflect your exact gear at that exact moment. It's not designed to alter your actual gear set, so there's no way to "revert" it. Even a change in materia melding results in a change of your gear set, so "reverting" it is a mess of variables and a relative impossibility. Sometimes a "revert" you envision might be a situation where the previously displayed gear no longer exists because you discarded it or stored it with a retainer, to name some examples. That's why it always "breaks", because it's a mirror.

Unless they change the system as it's designed from the ground up, this is likely the best solution we're going to get. It's working as they intended, like it or not. At the very least this pop-up streamlines the process and saves a lot of annoying menu navigation every time we adjust helmet visibility.

  8. When you click cancel you’re saying “no, don’t update my portrait” that’s why it stays broken. Like when you updated your gear normally before the patch. What did you think clicking cancel would do? (genuine question, not being sarcastic or mean spirited)

  9. If the button worked the way you're describing, you would have no way of updating a gear set without updating the portrait. Your options would be "update the portrait" or "don't update portrait and don't update gear set".
I don't think that'd desirable. I think it makes sense that the buttons are only about taking action on your portrait, NOT your gear set.

  10. so, in my testing it seems that linking a portrait to a glamour plate breaks the portrait, HOWEVER, once you update it this one time it seems to be automatic. I would assume this will happen whenever you link a portrait to a new plate.

EDIT: Oh, it also seems to break if you update/change the glamour plate
EDIT 2: If the gear you are equipped with differs from the linked plate, it also breaks the plate

  11. There's no reason why instant portraits even need to store what gear you were wearing when you saved them, let alone refuse to display when your current gear doesn't match.

I don't understand why they don't just make them load whatever you're currently wearing. The game already checks for that when you enter a duty so it can break your portrait. They're wasting server space for nothing.
