Having the perspective of different roles certainly helps, same with the experience of whatever piece of content you're doing.
One thing to always keep in mind, however, is the Human factor. Not every player will have this awareness, either 'cause they are new or they just don't care to learn.
As always, great recommendation from WeskAlber. Thank you for all your content, it has helped me a lot when I started playing XIV (and still does)
Me as a bard: good luck i'm gonna dance without need to remember my rotation.
Due to tanxiety, when I first picked my future main job of DRK, I asked other tanks about tips and followed their instructions religiously until it became habit.
When I started leveling healers, I was like "oh, oh that's why I had to do that, oh, that's why they were happy I asked first… god, trying to outheal stupid is awful"
Cooldown management?
My SCH has never seen such a thing
Wesky is my waifu
I've played a healer in other MMOs. I'm dps in FF14 and I remember not to do all the dumb stuff I witnessed as a healer.
This is super important.
I have no clue on how to learn good cooldown management.
As you said, it’s pathetically easy to heal bad Tanks but this means that whenever I play Tank, there’s no feedback at all on my performance.
There’s also a high degree of variance in terms of DPS so I might be rolling cooldowns properly but just ran out due to party incompetence.
I’m only talking about dungeon healing because I end up just noting down and copying CD uses from raider VODs when filling in for high-end duties.
This is true of pretty much every MMO, not just FF14. You're going to be a sub-par player in WoW if you only play 1/3 of the trinity as well. One of the big things is that in FF14 with level syncing things wibble wobble a lot more, some tanks have no idea how poor DPS AOE skills are at low levels and get surprised when they pull a whole dungeon wall to wall only to watch their DPS trying desperately to kill mobs one by one.
I had a WAR the other day on aetherfont. He was popping no cooldowns so as healer i thought about letting him drop very low to scare him a bit to see if he would use something. He died and told me afterwards that i was the healer. Those things i don't tolerate so i just left the instance as i don't agree a lvl90 non sprout tank to refuse to use stuff.
I couldn't agree more!
There are so many great details you can get – knowing that your WHM can fix it when your GNB performs tactical amateur brain surgery, but also as a WHM knowing you might want to save your fix for after he does so…
I don't heal or tank. I never enjoy doing either. However, because I don't do those, I am very open to feedback on how to be a better DPS, so I always thank other players when they give me advice, feedback, and/or suggestions.
healers left me to die in The Eyes of the Creator
despite my cooldown usage including invuln thy both refused to at least toss me a regen and how did the OT reacted by not provoking the boss nor toggling on his tank stance the whole party wiped….
No.
