FFXIV Patch 6.4 Stormblood Dungeon Boss Changes!

With #ffxiv patch 6.4 that came out May 23rd, 2023, changes came to the dungeons Bardam’s Mettle, Doma Castle, Castrum Abania, and Ala Mhigo, and the boss encounters within, to help with the fact that the Warrior of Light can now run these dungeons with NPC companions instead of just with humans now.

The new fights are slightly changed to be easier for the NPC AI, but they’re still new if you get them for Roulettes or queue for them yourself with humans. Make sure you don’t get caught off-guard by some of the changes!

  1. I was mistaken on two points (at least) — There have always been two safe lanes on Hypertuned Grynewaht's buzzsaws. Apologies for the confusion, corrections and retractions are in full effect. There's also a hidden Resistance Pikedancer NPC as DPS for Castrum Abania if you have the right combo.

Also, Writer_Man has pointed out that the Magitek Scorpion, boss 1 in Ala Mhigo, centers itself for the big attacks, and that's the main difference. Big thanks to him!

  2. The new XXIV fight looks more demanding in a sense, but it's a shame they got rid of the original mechanic. Would've been cool if it had these new changes + the elemental attunement thing going on. Shame about Aulus getting easier as well, but I was preparing for that entire soul mechanic to be removed, so I guess I'm relieved that it's still around.

  3. I suppose i should be glad that Abania no longer has that accursed barrier shift mechanic. I for a time could not do the dungeon because every team i got refused to do the towers, let alone stop attacking the boss to get the correct elemental alignment so they didnt kill themselves

  5. Man, I'm starting to wish they didn't decide to add duty support to older dungeons. They just removing cool mechs to make things easier. Too much easier. And less flashy. While ARR changes are welcome and Number XXIV is understandable, every other dungeon rework I now loath. Really don't wanna do them anymore =(

  6. I have to confess, that although these changes make the fights easier and boring, at least now I know the mechs for Stormblood….finally! I never committed them to memory bc I only just joined FFXIV last year and careened through SB dungeons just reaching for the MSQ endgame story. Never cared for its dungeons outside of leveling my main. So sorry to anyone that had to run DF with me!

  7. In a way I’ll miss the off the wall mechanics and design of Stormblood, it made the XPac tolerable my first time through. But since they never show up again in future Xpacs it kind of makes sense to trim them down. Plus if they advance the duty support AI they might bring more complex dungeons back.
The “dumbing down” is a result of them trying to appeal to single player final fantasy fans. Hence why I have been opposed to the duty support idea for everything below ShB. FFXIV’s appeal is that it is an MMO, stripe the multiply player aspect out and you have a fairly bland and generic Final Fantasy game that relies on prior installments for its inspiration.
That tangent aside thanks for the video, was curious but don’t have the fights memorized.

  8. Before the lasers in the Aulus mal Asina fight would randomly target players, not make a specific pattern, if you soloed the dungeon, the lasers would all target you

  9. yesterday i did bardam mettle for triple sam here what i found out. Se can make tank as dps and dps as tank, sam got a mt skill called imposing figure, but this is up to them if they really wanna do this in 7.0, hien deals more damage than you and can use lv 70 skill in down lv areas, they dont take damage by that giant ball btw
