How The Final Fantasy 14 Story Changed My Perspective on Gaming

Playing Final Fantasy 14 Online, since the end of Shadowbringers and the launch of Endwalker, has been one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling gaming experiences I’ve had in recent years, and I’ve barely scratched the surface. The narrative alone has really touched my heartstrings, in more ways than one, and has opened my eyes to the full potential of the video game industry as a whole.

With more recent titles like Final Fantasy XVI, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Tears of the Kingdom, and more, I cannot wait to see and experience what these other games have in store. Let me know in the comments which games have impacted you the most! Hope everyone has a great time gaming! Enjoy FF16 if you already got it and a PS5 to play it ;D

  1. I'm doing a FFXIV replay since I actually haven't experienced all of the changes the reworks have brought. I figured it would be best to have a new experience with a new character in a different game region from my own.

And so I brought Zacharias Barnham to Sophia World in the Materia Data Center.

(Kudos to you if you know who Zacharias Barnham is without Googling it.)

  2. I thought that FF14 had some amazing aspects to it, crafting, some parts of the gameplay and graphics but I have to admit, the “story” felt so convoluted it felt dull. I think that I got to level 6 before being worn out with all the elongated exchange of pleasantries every time you meet someone new. It was by far the worst part of the game to me.
I would have jumped back into playing it but Square Enix reactivated my account (6month sub) without me knowing and charged me. I didn’t find out until the 2nd time they did it. I had to ring my bank to block them as they didn’t care about my security or the fact that I hadn’t logged onto my character for well over a year, despite someone reactivating my acct!! As such, I won’t be giving them my bank details ever again. Their lack of sympathy for the situation was shocking!!! Never again Square Enix, never again! 😢

  3. Undertale is a nice short one. NieR is a beautiful epic series. Celeste does an amazing job of harmonizing all elements of the game, and has accessibility options if you struggle too much to fully enjoy it (as its base design is pretty hard).

You might have become briefly acquainted to NieR: Automata through ffxiv?

  4. I had pretty much the same experience to get into the game. I wasn't a fan of tab targeting. About the community: I never see a friendlier community than FFXIV.

  5. For a good RPG series with a great story, I’d highly recommend the Suikoden series. The first two have a remaster version coming out sometime soon, hopefully later this year or early next year. Unfortunately, they can’t be found on the PS4 or PS5 store, so if you wanted to play them legitimately you’d probably have to get them for the PS1 and PS2. I believe the first four were on the PS3 store, but idk if that’s still the case.

Otherwise, you could play them by using an emulator. The first two were great, and I actually really enjoyed the third one, though I think most people consider it the second worst in the series. The fourth one wasn’t that great, it had a lot of issues regarding traveling on the fairly empty world map and the frequent combat encounters during that. I’ve heard many great things about the fifth game, but have unfortunately never really played it myself.

  6. I love the idea that everyone expects dragons to die anyway lmfao

I went through a very similar journey fell off in ARR but that Endwalker trailer is so effective it not only inspired me to catch up through heaven's Ward Storm blood and shadowbringers to be there at launch It also inspired me to run my first 5 mi straight that summer I would run to that song over and over it'll always have a spot on my playlist

  7. Since you asked for recommendations allow me to suggest (in no particular order):
    Nier: Automata and Nier: Replicant
The Witcher games – The first game is pretty old and clunky by now, but the story still makes it worth it. If you only play one of the games make it the Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3, the story is almost entirely self contained and one of the best stories in gaming ever.
The Yakuza games – Serious crime drama mixed with wacky comedy. Yakuza 0 is a good game to start with.
Baldur's Gate I & II – Old classic RPGs with great story and characters you will fall in love with.
Disco Elysium – Probably the weirdest RPG out there.
Sekiro – Shadows Die Twice, but you're gonna die a whole lot more than that.
Ghost of Tsushima – Samurai Simulator
Ni No Kuni I & II – Studio Ghibli made a jrpg.
Alien Isolation – If you enjoy being tense and scared this is a very good game.
Sleeping Dogs – A great GTA clone where you play as an undercover cop in Hong Kong.
Alpha Protocol – Probably horribly outdated by now, but it is the best espionage RPGs ever made.

Not every game listed above might be your cup of tea, but I hope some of them are.

  8. Hm if you like going on a story-driven adventure with party members that you get to know and love, consider the Mass Effect trilogy. It feels like its own sort of Western Sci-Fi take on Final Fantasy’s formula in a weird way lol it even had a crossover with XIII-2.

  9. You offer a really unique perspective, I have not really seen a video made like this from somebody ever. Good video

RPGs wise, should definitely play FF9, it's my favorite Final Fantasy game. I easily cried. Definitely play Chrono Trigger, maybe play Dragon Quest 11? All great games with good stories

  10. Awesome. I hear ffxiv has an amazing story and people love it despite hating MMOs. I'm kind of in a unique camp where I place almost no importance in story when I play videogames. I much prefer older fantasy games and MMOs which pretty much put most of the emphasis on the battle system and old school dungeon raiding. I hate repeating breadcrumb quests to levelup. I'd rather just get a group of people together and kill the same monsters over and over again using our knowledge of the mechanics and enemy weaknesses to try to optimize things. This comment almost sounds sarcastic but it's true and why I can't get into ff14 despite how much people love it. I love ff11 though.

  11. I've become attached to characters in Guild Wars 2 (MMORPG). The lore is good and fully voice acted; even your character. There are 5 races to play.
Humans; aliens to the planet they are on and struggle to survive. Charr; a war like cat race, Asura; a small race that makes golems, Norn; a race of giants that are hunters and they drink a lot, Sylvari; a plant race that glow in the dark and are born fully grown from a large tree. Base game is free if ya want to try it out. And the community is nice.

  12. I hope you did Binding Coils of Bahamut. If you do it before Stormblood, you get special dialogue with Alisaie when you're reunited with her, because Coils is when you have your first real story interaction with her outside of the intro.

  14. I’ve tried multiple times to get into this game, but I am the ‘skip-cutscenes’, make my own story type of player. It’s great that this game exists for people who want story, rather than narrative, or for people who want both. Having ADHD, I just can’t bother to care about 100’s of hours of story in between me tearing it up getting loot and gaining God-like power. But, I want to, I REALLY want to!
