100% agree on, he died during stormblood, slit his throat from ear to ear leaving a nice smile. Yet was still brought back through msq shoved in face in shb and in EW stalled us entirely. With the goal of wanting to find a worthy opponent, which he already admitted defeat by a worthy opponent… Meanwhile we have characters like yostola, who just keeps surviving death.. .

  2. Character deaths have become a quick and easy way to get an emotion from the story.
Deaths and sacrifices don't mean anything if there aren't lasting effects. I'm looking at you zone 6.

  3. I think they rather play it safe and it is creeping up on them. The longer they stick with characters, the harder it will be to kill them off. I can also see them not wanting to kill <player> favorite to prevent them from losing interest there after. It is not uncommon for people to lose interest in a show when their favorite character is killed off

  4. I don't wanna say I hope there's not but maybe I hope it's post dawntrail because I need some more upbeat moments. After how heavy things have been in EW I feel like not only does our character need a less lethal adventure but we need something positive for a bit before getting back to world destroying things

  5. Papalymo is not the last ally to die. He's not even the last scion to die. Hydaelyn? Minifilia? That said they've seemed to have forgotten (or let us forget) about Y'shtola's eyes slowly draining her aether in order for her to see.

  6. The difficult part would be deciding who it should be. All mains characters are involved in side content at some point (ARR extremes, Coil of Bahamut, warring triad, eureka, Eden, Myths of the Realm) except Estinian, and he's a bit too popular to kill off. Then again, the games story does assume you've done everything available prior to an update, and they can always make some side content mandatory like they did with the Crystal Tower.

  7. I was a little disappointed with the Ultima arc, and there being practically no lasting consequences, truth be told.

Regardless of whether or not someone feels death is the "easy way" to evoke emotion from the audience; without some sort of //loss// on this supposedly wildly dangerous quest we're on to save the world — It sorta dampens the grandosity and importance of the big moments. Loss doesn't necessarily need to be death, either. Loss of a bond, loss of a sense (Lookin' at you Yshtola), loss of a power or ability, etc. SOME sort of consequences to remind us from time to time that we're not invulnerable despite the hesvy plot armor; that we're still undertaking a dangerous path, y'know? You don't have to go full game of thrones, but dang.
