I hoped the 2nd person could’ve phrased it as “if one of the alternative ways to access glamour dressers anywhere could be to have it in your own House/FC Houses
(As an idea regarding how Yoshi answered it revolving the stress on server, what his idea is with that question specifically)
since they’re thinking of increasing the server strength and then* find how they’ll implemented QoL changes to accessibility on dressers
Always rely on Shenpei to ask the most pointless questions…
whoa! congratulations!
I have a buddy who wants to play dark knight for the great sword, but his rp preferences are more in line with paladin/ knights. It would be cool if you could customize the colors of the effects of your abilities, similar to the glows and abilities in warframe.
I wonder if it is the code for ff14 that makes these changes near impossible because WoW I believe has more players and a 25 year old engine and they implemented the transmog catalog years ago. I wish ff14 could do like Guild Wars 2 has done with making it all one catalog and you can use dyes as much as you want without having to have inventory slots with multiple pots of dye.
Its not that I don't trust or believe Yoship, and they do such great things with FFXIV.. but when we are talking about character customization and how even increasing like horn choice on au'ra would result in lag.. I just can't help but think.. How does Black Desert and any other Korean mmorpg do it where they have like 50+ some sliders for every character … and I don't lag in those games where no offense but the graphics are generally even more detailed? I don't want FFXIV to look like them.. but its a hard pill to swallow to say its not possible.
I really don't agree with getting rid of DC travel as a solution to the raiding issue, that's just unnecessarily harsh to the majority of people that just use it to visit friends.
The best solution would be something like restricting PF access if you travel, that way it dissuades the idea of "this server is the raiding server" because the majority of players will not want to spend the money to DC move just for the sake of raiding.
Meoni out here asking the REAL questions
I think talent tree would be a bad fit for ff14 but i do like the idea of ap spending on your favorite skills to give them more ex versions like how upgrades already work now ,i play a lot of Korean mmos and awakening systems have always been a good sense of growth for me
so happy you got to do this!
His ability to answer the questions with logical technical answers is totally understandable. His answers to your glamour question was great.
DC Travel was a mistake.
Why can't the face and horn option be separate in character for Au'ra creator man. It's so annoying having a certain face be stuck with a certain pair of horns. They always focus on stuff that's ancillary like the graphics when character creator has been in shambles for years =(
24:13 LOL, he definitely knows about this already. I cant imagine its easy to figure out from a technical perspective.
About the PF for raiding going on what Yoshi-P said maybe they could implement bonuses for using PF on your Home DC? It could potentially get around the DC travel issue. I think for short term that might be a good solution. (If they can do it that is.)
Ok… I really kinda wish a dev would see this comment.
I think it would be EXTREMELY risky to add a talent or ability point system to ffxiv. I believe the reason FFXIV has such a good community is because the classes are so "cookie cutter." In other words, the class is the class. There is typically one right way to play the class and so there are no min/max builds… this game is just about optimizing your playstyle and hitting the right buttons while dealing with the mechanics of the fight.
Don't misunderstand me… I inherently like the idea of more player choice in games, but this is the only MMO where I actually think it's the wrong direction because once you start doing that then you add another layer onto the mechanics for the min/max players to decide the "best" way to approach this mechanic and anyone who chooses to deviate from the best becomes "less than" the others.
FFXIV would work very well with a "stat squish" for several reasons.
1st: it already has a scaling system built into the framework of the game, so the groundwork is already there for both players and devs to adjust to a stat squish
2nd: unlike many MMO's the skills are not awarded at a specific cadence. For example, a warrior gets a new skill at levels 1, 4, 6, 10, 15, 26, 30, 35 ETC… it's not like every 2 levels or anything like that.. so they have room to squish the stats without overloading the player with abilities.
3rd: The MSQ already drives the game… The MSQ could be used to restrict character level progression, so they could still make leveling relatively quick so long as you are to a certain point in the MSQ. For example, a stat squish could mean a new character would be capped out at level 10 until they get an airship ticket. You get stuck at level 15 until you finish Ifrit etc… All of HW expansion could lock levels behind each dungeon, so as soon as you complete a dungeon your level goes up by 1. I know some people would probably not like this because it's an artificial restraint, but in the long run something would have to be done to reduce bloat, and I don't really want to see FFXIV keep the level cap at 100 for multiple expansions… I think that would feel even worse than "gating" the leveling speed behind the MSQ.
There has to be some give and take with whatever they decide to do to resolve eventual bloat, and I guess my whole point is that I think this game needs characters to feel like they are progressing in power as they grow, and I think the job progression should be along one linear path. The "Flexibility" of playstyles in FFXIV should come from the jobs.. don't add different playstyles into a single job. (Animations of course are different and that would be a fun way to customize your character, but it can't be JUST animations, you need to grow stronger too.
Yoshi P says he doesn't like this approach because it's a problem he would run into again down the line, but let's say you squish ARR to level 30 and all other expansions to 5 levels each… then the max at EW would only be what? 50? New expansions (including Dawntrail) could stay at 10 levels each until they get to level 100 again, and then when needed, they keep the same level 50 at the end of EW and they only squish 4 more expansion down to 5 per level, so then you always have at least the 2 latest expansions at 10 levels per expansion. and the newer stuff from 10 levels down to 5. This would probably buy them another 20 years' worth of development while keeping the max level at or below 100.
EXAMPLE:
to lay it out – stat squish should look like this (for the next expansions up to 11)
AR 1-30, HW Storm Shad & EW go from 10 per expac to 5 – so ARR to EW = 50 levels. Then you keep 10 levels for Dawntrail#7 50-60 8th expac 60-70 9th 70-80 10th 80-90 and 11th goes back up to 100
Now they hit 100 again at the end of expansion 11, Another stat squish could be applied as follows:
ARR to EW stays at 50 levels. Expansions 7 to 10 are condensed to 5 levels each… So ARR to Expansion 10 would consist of levels 1-70… then expansion 11 (the one that was already out) would keep the 10 level range, 70-80, expansion 12 goes 80-90, and expansion 13 goes 90-100.
This would be a plan for another 6 expansions (AFTER Dawntrail) while not allowing the max level to go over 100. That would be at least another 15 years worth of development time I would imagine.
The idea of skill points that make each character's job a little different from the next player's is kinda cool. But in practice it would probably turn out so that everyone uses the same optimal build.
Those were INCREDIBLE questions.
oh my god they went through that entire first question and didn't actually answer the question.
Meoni asked what's happening to existing face-style headpieces like glasses and scarves, if they were going to be converted to the new face slot accessories, and Yoshi-P went into the whole speech about memory allocation. None of that was relevant to the question. >.<
Not sure why a followup to clarify wasn't asked because I really want to know this as well. >.<
Thank you Meoni. Some really good questions were asked.
36:30 true visionary
I love Shen for asking the DC Travel question, Dynamis has it particularly rough. My honest suggestion would be to maybe apply some bonus for queuing content on your home DC. One of the concerns with that from an FC mate of mine though is the fear that Statics and PFs would be toxic to players not from their DC, and would alienate them similar to how players were treated for playing certain jobs early in the expansion. I still say compared to shutting DC travel down or Dumping a bunch of raiders into Different DCs each patch, this would be the most viable option.
did he just casually drop house furnishing presets at us??? or at the least, putting everything away at once
For the glamour dresser access question by Shenpai, i've anticipated this for a long time and i was right. The glamour dresser acts as your inventory, literally. That's why when you type "/itemsearch <item>", there is a section for Glamour Dresser there, and it'll tell you wether you have the item or not. When you access the glamour dresser, behind the scene it'll also commands the database to get all of the items (Probably in a shape of an array of JSON) coresponding to your character's Data Center, World, Name, and ID, and grabs everything there (probably put some section of the glam dresser on a buffer system too to decrease loading time).
The reason they cannot do it is because their glamour system works as an inventory. You can put 2 of the same glam with different set of dyes too. And because of this they have very limited resources on their system (it's literally 800 slots of inventory). It has a vulnerability of it being a stress over the system's database. This is also the reason why we're limited to 800 slots of glam dresser. If we have more than what the server is capable of, it would become a vulnerability to DDoS attack
If they want people to access the glam dresser anywhere, they will need to change the whole glamour dresser system into something like GW2 or WoW has. GW2 and WoW's transmog system is not an inventory, but it's a bool check whether you have ever had that exact armor piece on your inventory or not. If you have, then on their database they will checklist that armor on your character, so it doesn't act like an inventory. But i guess this isn't what YoshiP and the team's goal with their glamour system
Why doesn’t anyone ever ask them about giving free companies some love? As an FC leader, I would love to see more perks for being in an fc, fc achievements to work on together and a revamped fc II window with sortable lists.
That second question especially, he's heard it a lot. Fans just need to give them time. We don't want them to shut down servers for a year to work on it or go without any content. It astounds me how entitled people are to these things AND content, but don't want to sacrifice one or the other. Thus why they end up using mods. Even mods I don't think can change the size of horns and such either.
Same idea with the Raiding and PFs becoming barren in certain DCs: If you want them to fix that, then they're going to need a lot of DEDICATED time to that ALONE. If I were the person asking this or concerned with it, then I would hope to have the self-awareness and accountability enough to recognize that I may not or most likely will not get everything else I want, which is a bunch of content to pad out my playtime.
And you also have to recognize that when the game doesn't have content or anything to do in it, then people will cancel their subscriptions, which is where a majority of their revenue comes from.
I don't mind when these questions are asked. I just really HOPE the people asking them and the people complaining/wanting it has the self-awareness, recognition, and accountability to understand that if they want that, then they can't work on much of anything else. Which I know is impossible for humans in-general to be that aware because throughout EndWalker patches people were complaining about there not being enough content for them to play because they binge it all in one week, then complain in 7 days or less. Which is just absurd and ridiculous and people should look at those people like they're ridiculous.
Impatient people and entitled people really get my eyes rolling.
Imagine you were asked to do several tasks that may take you a few hours, but then your boss drops a 48 hour task on your and expects you to have it done in 10 hours. You wouldn't like it either.
Also, I love how he understands English, but needs a translator. It's like a flex. Although he may not know how to speak english? Still, I just find it fascinating. And a translator's job is fascinating. I wish I could do it.
Congrats & Thank you Meoni for always bringing us the news! Especially for the lodestone/website update videos where you read them out, helps a lot!
Thank you, Meoni and AeroViro for your time to ask the man himself 😀
I need to get his attention for PVP if there's a chance in his Live Letter stream because I got one small request xD
It was nice to hear that he had housing items for outdoors in mind because I wanted more items to be placed for small ones too.
I thought 20 was enough until the items we see that are out for every once in a while.
If I see an increase on the item limits for outdoor, I'd LOVE to get a house again!
Once again, thank you two for this content <3
Shen: “cross DC PF”
Yoshida: “(darth Vader voice) Noooooo!”
Am I the only one who feels like ultimate raiders make up a small percentage of the player base but act with a much higher sense of entitlement?
Awesome questions! As for the housing thing, I wonder if they could make "Yard skins" kinda like the fences and placards. Have just a small assortment, grass, snow, flowery.. would be really nice to see what they come up with =D
About face accessories, what they should do is introduce a face parlour interface within the glam dressrobe, where you can customize make up, glasses, face accessories etc. And then you save that as one unit to be placed on your face.
I can never help but be in awe of Yoshi-P. Of course he's not the one hacking away at the code, making the graphics, or designing the encounters, but he does a very different and no less grueling kind of work. He has to be the face of everything. He has to take responsibility. He has to know all about the game, on every level, and answer questions. He has to travel the globe and meet the fans, and understand what the players are asking for. Sure, he gets all the credit, but he also gets all the blame. Only someone who truly cares about his craft can do this kind of job, and come off this convincingly to us devoted fans. I really respect this man. This is a real champ. You hardly ever see this kind of person in the games industry.
Op work top questions!
