its xbox fault. They refused to participate in cross platform when they werent making a cut of the sub fees. They fought that fight when the game launched.
The only way FFXIV will play on Xbox, Microsoft will need to buy SquareEnix. What if this is announced after the Activision deal goes though?
FFXIV will NEVER come to Xbox at this point. The relationship between Microsoft and Square Enix is beyond awful at this point, with Xbox barely getting any SE releases anyway. SE and Sony are completely in bed together and I suspect SE will be bought by Sony at some point in the future.
You then have the cross platform issue, the has been a source of contention between the two companies. I wish it would come to Xbox but I just don't see it happening.

I do not think Sony is paying Sqaure Enix to keep Final Fantasy XIV off of Microsoft. It's an ongoing cost while a single player game is one time cost. I doubt Final Fantasy XIV moves Playstation consoles to justify an ongoing cost.
UM NO PS5 FANBOYS are trying to bash Microsoft so sick of the console wars and YouTube channels and other social media outlets egging on the console wars,they doing this mostly because they are piss Microsoft made a deal with Activision and PS5 are bashing them because they are happy REDFALL been delayed on Microsoft consoles. SO sick of the division and hatred form certain gamers that purposely bash and ditch and want Microsoft to fail and that they say PS5 is the most popular console and the number one console. I prefer the old days where people didn't show there hatred or divisions towards the consoles when social media came out it ruin the gaming base
IF they hate xbox then that studio is DEAD in the water. They need to branch out stop being exclusive to one or 2 platforms. More competition is better for EVERYONE even the Studio/Publisher wake the hell up SE!
square didn't report record profits so all the exclusivity deals aren't laying golden eggs just splintering the community
but if a game is single player there is no community so it doesn't matter

It’s the statistics. Statistically Xbox has a significantly lower player count than PlayStation and PC. Microsoft does a terrible job advertising its existing MMOs on its platform.
Though Microsoft seems friendly on the surface, they've had strict regulation of their environments and this can be why some games aren't making it. Plus, Sony and Epic are 100% adding fuel to the fire with exclusivity stuff.
People seem to forget that PC is actually a thing too. Yeah, Xbox is their console but Microsoft usually puts most of the games that come out on Xbox on PC as well. PC gets most big releases at some point and lately have been getting some "exclusives" that were only on PS like God of War, The Last of Us and Horizon: Forbidden West. PC got FF7R and recently, Stranger of Paradise. It honestly feels like Microsft should just leave the console game behind and focus on PC stuff IMO.
The issue back in the day was that PCs were just too damn expensive. But now you can easily find a mid-grade machine that's comparable to current systems in price and performance and just keep buying parts to make it better. It's a better investment in the long run too as most PCs last for a good 10 years or more depending on what you build it with AND outshine most consoles.
Granted, they came out much later but still. Exclusives aren't really exclusives nowadays unless you're Nintendo. Lol
I doubt that it's Sony trying to keep ff14 off Xbox. If I had to guess, it's that Microsoft had stingy conditions that they want for their version of the game, like servers being Xbox only with no crossplay, probably requiring Xbox live to play, which yoshiP would not want to agree to, because remember that ps+ is not needed to play 14 on Playstation. And probably wanting it to launch on all 4 of their platforms at once, for both Xbox ones and both series consoles which is a pretty big undertaking.
They have been two regulations in the past that stopped Microsoft for pushing this way. The first was cross chat and the second was guilds. Indicating that they would need a private server. Destiny now has shown to allow for both between different platforms, So we might be closer than we think.
Though the Final Fantasy 14 team will definitely need a huge growth expansion to be able to provide support to so many users.
But why would it make business sense for Sony to consistently pay to keep FF14 off Xbox?
FF14 doesn't need Plus to play so it's not like Sony are gaining anything from doing that.
