FFXIV Hunt Trains Explained – The BEST Way To Farm Materia

Hunt Trains made simple and explained for new players as this may be the best way to farm materia in FFIXV Endwalker. Within the space of afew hours you can make a ton of clusters that can be traded in for X and IX combat materia.
I’ve personally been ignoring hunt trinas, hunt marks/targets/trains this whole time as I didn’t fully understand them, so I wanted to make this quick video to help inform FFXIV new players or WoW veterans like myself how they work.

Please let me know in the comments if I’ve missed anything important, of if you know a better way to farm tomestones or combat materia.

  1. Welcome to the train, all aboard! This was absolutely nuts when I was doing it on ShB. We'd usually meet at Fort Jobb and it's always a treat seeing all the mounts. I accidently ran into a hunt conductor once when I was flying through a Stormblood area and got invited to a Linkshell. I'm part of two hunt linkshells now and yeah 🙂 It's pretty awesome.

You really do want to have a full party, it's easier to get full credit with that. The amounts you listed were for full marks. Healers and Tanks can generate lots of aggro, assuring full marks. When I'm a DPS, I just try tagging with DoTs at the very least.

Because there are so many people there, it's usually frowned upon to have a mount/minion out during a hunt.

For S rank monsters it's not always a timer – there are often special conditions that need to be met as well. Because of this, most Hunt Trains will wait for people to arrive and someone will list a "Pull time" in ET (Eorzea time). Early pulls are highly frowned upon.

There are Hunts that will go over older content areas! These trains are usually smaller, but no less swift once they take off. Thanks to flying in ARR content, there will be hunt marks called even for those areas. However, they are exceedingly fragile compared to end game, so it's recommended to tag them with your weakest attacks, allowing more people to get credit. ARR hunts will net Allied Seals, while Hunt Marks for HW and SB areas will net Clan Centurio Seals. Clan Nutsy are the marks for ShB and EW.

  2. So I've been joining the hunt trains, but had no idea about the nuts and other specific target stuff. Is there a guide where to unlock all the necessary pieces before you unlock the Endwalker clan hunts? Thanks, newbie to endgame here 🙂

  3. Think you missed this but each EW zone has 3 instances so instead of 12 total hunts you can have up to 36

I've been in one and the only regret I had was not emptying my tonestone out 🤣

  4. I'm happy to see you enjoy the Hunt. For me they are with Chi (kind of a world boss in ultima) the craziest thing in the game. On NA server we are like 120 in the train and i have see 400 for chi. Nuts can be used to buy materia too. Pentamelding is a lot of rng and you can lost hundreds of materia in the process. That's why combined with regular melding the price sky rocket but it's one of the best gear in the game for the savage.

  5. Make sure you unlock hunts for each expack. There are currently 3 different currencies across the 5 expacks. Each one has it's own vendors with unique rewards. Daily and weekly hunts are also a good quick way to get some xp provided you're in the right level bracket.

  6. I was part of a Hunt Train last night and it wasn't the best experience I've had with them. The train was also instance-hopping to take advantage of the spawns in different instances. And no one waited for everyone to get in there to pull. I got frustrated and left at one point.

  7. Thanks for the video, by the way, you can buy and cell crafting component with your tomestone, not sure the vallue right now, but since it's for 580 ilevel gear, it can be sell pretty well if you don't do anything with them

  8. If you're into this kinda stuff is an excellent way to get materia. But if this isn't your cup of tea, doing either leveling or alliance roulette as an adventurer in need will give you one of each rank IX and X exchange token. And you only need to be level 80+, so you can earn them while leveling from 80-90.

  9. Great video for newcomers–hunt trains can be a bit overwhelming but they're extremely useful for getting early materia. There's three things to note:
    1. For right now, due to server instability and the existence of 3 instances of every zone, some servers are doing "split" trains, where you join one group that does all 3 instances of half the zones. It's an unfortunate stop-gap to prevent hunt trains from taking an hour or more as people wait for the full train to zone in, but for the time being it is necessary. If a given server is doing split trains, it's usually specified in the Party Finder information. Linkshells & hunt discords will usually specify. DEFINITELY always check Party Finder! Many many people will ask for an invite when they could easily join a group by just hitting up PF.
    2. The cracked clusters (dendro/anthro) are only a chance to drop. That was maybe a little unclear in your video. It's pretty likely–you'll usually get at least one, and often both–but it isn't guaranteed. It's pretty forgiving and you can rack up TONS of the cracked clusters, I had hundreds of the ones from ShB by the time Endwalker arrived.
    3. Later on, upgrade items for the Astronomy tomestone gear will be available for purchase with nuts. That will come on or after 6.1, when we get the new 24-man raid (since the tokens will also be available via coins dropped by the final boss of the raid). Accessory upgrade tokens are generally 2000 seals/nuts, while armor upgrade items are 3000. As a result, even though regular hunts may not be super interesting, they're a really good way to get extra progress without having to grind the raids etc. (I personally use nuts to upgrade my accessories and the coins to buy armor upgrades, but you can do whatever you like!)

  11. To me, the materia tokens are a side benefit. I do them to get my 450 tomes for the week, and nuts to buy the upgrade currencies.
Tuesdays are best, so many players that the bosses die before they can kill me, but the zone change congestion delays can be frustrating.
