  1. "Yojimbo is worth a hundred men!" I find that statement a bit dubious. On one hand, it only took four people to beat him at the end of Kugane Castle. On the other hand; those four people were also Warriors of Light, which are themselves worth about a hundred or so soldiers each.

  2. For those who don't know taikomochi is the name for male geisha. Fun fact: being a geisha was originally a male only job but later on female geisha became more popular and taikomochi became much less prominent.

  3. Yojimbo is one of my favorite summons in FFX despite the need to give him gil. At one point on my 200+ hour save on the PS2, I could give him 1 gil and still consistently get the instakill ability. Alas, that memory card disappeared during college, suspect it was one of my crappier roommates. Oh well. ;;

  4. 41:47 This emote was actually only added for player use recently, with the most recent Valentione's Day quest. Since ended, those wishing to /loveheart will need to wait until next year's event, at which time the emote will be added to the cash shop for 4 to 7 dollars. It unfortunately has no anti-air capability.

  5. 6:32 Now, I'm not a Japanese speaker, so I could be wrong, but to my understanding "Yojimbo" means "Bodyguard" in most contexts. Apparently, in more modern usage, it is also used to refer to a "Bouncer".

  6. – LMAO i'm loving the zooming on the Inconspicuous Suspoucious Lala
    – i love that nobody rejected Holdy's Taikomochi act, is just that today wasn't the correct day for it
    – well, is no Greg, but Jim will do. also i love that he just accepts Hildy is gonna call him Jim & just ignores it
    – i just assume Namazu smell of Fish & Mud
    – well, the case ended surprisingly easy & smooth

    – i mean, "Fish" is such a nonsensically wide category it would be closer to "would you eat Animal that walks"

  7. 17:42 That does it, I may make a D&D character that is a "stalwart ass".
    33:57 Tea… hangover? That's new to me.
52:37 Not for leisure, no. Weirdly, due to the weird legality of eating human flesh, if me or one of my buddies lost an arm or something and decided to grill it, I would 100% try it. I'm too curious. (For clarity, my understanding is that it's not strictly illegal to consume human flesh in the US, but acquiring enough to cook is usually illegal. I could be very wrong, though.)

  8. Playfriends, if you'll be my bodyguard, I can be your long lost pal. I can call you Hildi, and Hildi when you call me, you can call me… Jim? This is your spoiler free lore comment.

22:00 – Taikomochi (taiko drum bearers) are male geishas. The profession seems to predate geisha, but their popularity has not been as widespread as geisha.

Yojimbo is a recurring samurai in Final Fantasy, frequently accompanied his faithful dog, Daigoro. Yojimbo is perhaps most famous in popular culture (other than Final Fantasy) as the 1961 Kurosawa film 用心棒 (English: Yojimbo). The lead character was so popular that Kurosawa adjusted his next film, Sanjuro, to feature the same character. Yojimbo first appears as an enemy in FF5, in the final dungeon. In FF6, Yojimbo returns in Kefka's Tower, this time wielding the powerful attack Kiku-ichimonji (hesitation is defeat). Players can steal the Masamune sword from Yojimbo. This version of Yojimbo has obtained his large, flat topped hat. But as Dan states, the most popular version of Yojimbo in the series is from Final Fantasy X and X-2. In these games, Yojimbo is an optional boss and aeon. In addition to having to best the aeon in order to unlock him as a summon, you must pay him. Yojimbo can be haggled with, but his obsession with money continues. Using him as a summon requires you to pay him, and his attacks alters based on the sum paid. His outfit is codified in FFX, with garish colors and flamboyant dress on a slim body, all topped by a large flat hat. Yojimbo again appears in FFXV, this time downgraded to a strong, but common, enemy. As I noted on Monday, players can encounter Yojimbo in FFXIV at the Gold Saucer, where he works the "Slice is Right" game. Players must dodge the collapsing bamboo towers that Yojimbo slices up, as well as Daigoro's pounces. Yojimbo is also the final boss of the Kugane Castle optional level 70 dungeon (not to be confused with Doma Castle).

37:08 – The Namazu tribe quest also allows you to buy a mount that is their festival "float", carried by straining Namazu. You get to stand on the runners and wave! When you take off for flight, the Namazu are now hanging on for dear life as you float through the sky.

41:45 – Coincidentally, an emote very similar to this was just released for players as part of the 2024 Valentione's Day event, where you pose and project hearts.

Next time, we have a samurai to chase down!

  9. It fills me with joy to know that Jocat has also glamoured the Namazu bell onto many of his outfits. Also, i'm overjoyed at the extra "Weh"'s he put in when Akebono was walking away.

  10. Is the option @11:46 the only time we could establish our WoL as wealthy? Think there's more chances to show off your WoL's wealth in later expacs…

My WoL is flush with gil from RNG-he… sorry, { treasure hunt }, so 70k gil really affordable. Also, { golden beaver } { where? } T.T

  11. What I love about FFX's Yojimbo is yes, he is a summon, but when you summon him the only command you have is "pay". Depending on how much gil you dump into him, how high his lb gauge is, and how much he likes Yuna(the summoner of the party), he will do different attacks. The best of these attacks one-shots literally anyone in the game, which means he's the best way to cheese super bosses that lock you out of back tracking.

FFXIV did a lovely job interpreting him.

  12. There’s a part of me that feels like you need to do a highlight reel of your Hildebrand videos.
On the other hand, what would you cut?!? The reel would just be the playlist 😆

  13. I'm enjoying how much the sudden zoom-ins on the Inconspicuous Lalafell fit in with the crazy camera moves that are already featured in the cutscenes for this story.
