  1. I'm so glad I cleared out all that materia in my inventory. I finally got that Ultimog prize from Ocean Fishing, that Antelope mount is as good as mine! Wait, wha- This is your Spoiler Free Lore Comment!

Um. I don't have any lore for today's episode. Welp, since Cloud is over at the Gold Saucer in the FF7 playthrough today, let's talk about what players can find in the Manderville Gold Saucer!

The Lore of the Manderville Gold Saucer is that it was founded by Hildibrand's father, Godbert, as a way to bring joy to a troubled Eorzea. In constructing and operating the casino, Godbert hired many of the downtrodden of Ul'dah, including a significant number of displaced Ala Mhigans, paying decent wages to all. Its main mascot is the Senor Sabotender a gentlemanly cactuar (I think the name is supposed to be Señor Sabotender, but I might be wrong)!

The Manderville Gold Saucer operates a lot like its FF7 namesake. Only a small amount of gil can be transferred over to Manderville Gold Saucer Points (MGP), the game will actually prevent you from transferring gil to MGP if you have more than a few hundred MGP. All games and events in the Saucer pay out in MGP and largely require MGP to play. But unlike FF7's Saucer, admission is free, and there are some events that allow free participation! In addition, the developers have adjusted the payouts for most games and events to ensure that players break even or win, unlike a real casino!

As for games and events, let's start with what's similar to FF7. Chocobo racing and breeding works largely the same, with breeding occurring at an offsite stable in the Twelveswood. You can't bet on races, only participate. There is also a rail shooter game called Air Force One which operates similarly to FF7's Speed Square.

A similar, but a bit different, section of both Saucers are FF7's Wonder Square minigames. Small minigames are around the Manderville Gold Saucer, and the basketball minigame is almost the same in Monster Toss. Instead of G-bike or snowboarding, there are hammer strike games, punch games, and a crane game. There are also mining and botany games that replicate the older FFXIV mechanics of mining and botany.

And now on to the games that FF7 doesn't have! Triple Triad makes a come back from FF8, mostly unchanged! You obtain cards from various duties, and there are players around the world for you to challenge and obtain cards from, but there are tournaments at the Gold Saucer. The Saucer also hosts Doman Mahjong tournaments! It's Mahjong. There was at one time a rumor that FFXIV's free trial provided a popular method of playing the game online without fees, enticing Mahjong aficionados who had no interest in Final Fantasy. There is also an RTS minigame, where you select warriors from your stable of automatronic minions (which you earn from various fights and duties) to compete against others, called Lord of Vermillion!

There is of course the standard mini-cactpot, which is a scratch ticket style game where you select a line in a 3×3 grid, and get a payout based on the total of your line. This can be played 3 times a day. The larger cactpot is a 4 digit lotto pull, which happens weekly. You win based on the matching numbers your ticket has (In sequence, starting from the 4th number. If your ticket misses a number, you don't check the further numbers).

There is also the Fashion Report, where Masked Rose will put forth a weekly challenge for people to dress up to solve, with a massive 60k MGP payout if you get 80 points. Fortunately, there's an entire corner of the community dedicated to puzzling out the challenge's clues and they post their solutions and suggestions on Reddit (which is then copied to the Playfriends discord). While Fashion Report can lead to some weirdly assembled and dyed outfits, if you go for a full clear of the challenges, you tend to actually get a decently put together look.

Finally, we arrive at the GATEs, the Gold Saucer Active Time Events (a play on the game's FATEs). We've already spoken of one, Air Force One, but the others are multiplayer! Cliffhanger and Leap of Faith are jumping puzzels, awarding MGP for quick completion. Any Way the Wind Blows features the return of Typhon from the ARR Hildibrand quests, who attempts to knock you off of the Event Square's platform with his powerful gusts. And finally, there is The Slice is Right, where you test your mettle against the mysterious and highly paid Samurai Yojimbo! Multiple faux bamboo towers will rise, and Yojimbo will cut them down in a single stroke! As the towers collapse, you must avoid their debris to stay on the platform and emerge the last one standing!

MGP is ultimately used to purchase prizes like outfits, emotes, hairstyles, and mounts. But, right now, there's a special event over at the Saucer! FFXIV is re-running the FFXV crossover event! After you've completed the event's quests helping Noctis defeat his foe, you can mosey over to the Saucer to pick up the Ironworks latest invention: a copy of Noctis's Regalia convertible. It even flies! But Durmin can't see over the steering wheel while seated; lalafell have to stand on the driver seat to operate it. Don't ask about the pedals.

    Next time: More Inspecting!

  2. JoCat, I don't know if you'll see this, but I want you to know you're a wonderful person and I was so happy to see this video. I'd wondered if you'd come back for another one of these, but didn't want to get my hopes up. I wish I'd taken the time to tell you when you were still active on YouTube how great of a presence you've been in my internet-life. I'm trying to get in the habit of telling that to creators I like now.

  3. I'm so glad I finished the Stormblood episodes a few days ago since it was just in time for Hildibrand! I'm excited to see what shenanigans Durmin and Victor get up to this time

2:47 I was interested in this character who'd been mysteriously showing up in the previous Hildibrand quests and wanted to see what his deal was . . . right up until he started talking about Nashu like that

3:48 what a fantastic idea to include Gyodo in these quests. he fits right in

18:45 I almost missed Hildibrand in the background there 😂

  5. I’m so pleased to see Jocat here tbh. I was worried he wouldn’t be in Hildibrand story due to him leaving his channel, but I’m glad to see him again. I hope he’s taking care of himself.
