  1. It’s normal that you don’t know much about Joumon culture as the literature in English about it was virtually non existent until the 21st century (apart from the Cambridge series on Japan history which was terribly outdated by the time I got to it in the early 2000s) – that was actually my main reason for starting to learn Japanese when I discovered about Japan’s pre-Heian (i.e before the late 8th century AD) as books about the period abound in Japanese. It is one of the oldest prehistoric pottery cultures in the world (for a while they had the oldest pottery ever dated but fragments found in China predate it), starting about 16,000 years ago and last well into the first millennium BC, as you said, and while they had little to no agriculture for the entire time (and no writing), archeological evidence shows it evolved into a fairly complex and agile culture, that excelled at making the most of its environment, especially in terms of food foraging and conservation

Dogu clay figures take many shapes: the minion I suspect is based on one of the most famous examples (slightly different from the one you show in the video, but obviously of a similar style) found in Aomori prefecture and probably dates from the first millennium BC, so the tail end of the Jomon period

  2. I think the Alien tidbit was to link it towards the Manderville series atm, How the Mandragorans are mistaken for PuPu the alien due to their similar porportions, which are close to the statues aswell, mainly the large head and eyes.
