I have to wholeheartedly disagree with this.
People overcomplicate BLM.
It's literally just Fire 4 spam. The rotation is insanely easy. The only thing that can be called complicated is how long you have to stand still to cast vs how often you need to move for mechanics. But they have plenty of tools to mitigate that.
While the rotation of BLM is super simple I find the fight knowledge required holds back most BLM you meet in the wild.
A BLM who knows what they are doing does insane amounts of dmg butb most (including me) loose a lot of potency by having to move at inopportune times or dying to avoidable dmg and waiting for rezzes.

awesome guide! i picked up black mage recently and i've been having a blast working towards all the little optimizations for even bigger dmg each time! Currently working on remembering sharpcast before thunder and not sitting on manafont lol — a niche but cool use of lucid dreaming could be when you die and can only manage one stack of ice, but ehh quite situational XD
Great guide. I'm having a blast leveling Red Mage atm. It's super fun and really versatile!
Btw, you can use an ether after you use manafont fire 4 despair, to get another despair in for more damage
It's so funny to listen to people who say that BLM has so many options for movement, but when you try to squeeze out the maximum dps, you realize that the swift should always be given to despire, and the triplecast should be given to the finisher or to despire –> mana –> despire , and you also need to time Xeno … in the buff window to give out maximum dps or swap the stance into ice and then immediately into fire … And now you don’t run at all … Otherwise, just twisting the rotation, at the moment, you a little stronger insta summoner)). BLM, this is a game against yourself, paint the whole battle and each button in several variations … A real game! Thanks for the newbie guide!
great guide for introduction and beginners. Including the opener.
however experienced black mage players have fallen into a rabbithole that goes way deeper then seen in this guide, that goes so far that even the opener is completely different.

can someone list which abiilties allow you to weave OGCDs? I know there are instant casts, but are there other spells that allow you to weave 1 ogcd in?
