FFXIV: ENDWALKER Launch Trailer Reaction & (Very) Deep Dive

Please note, I was dosed up on two lots of gabapentin when recording this video so if I appear more forgetful or useless than normal, that’ll probably be why. I trimmed down any bits I deemed too frustrating to watch.

  1. I think the place with all that crystal was in the aetherial sea where the Lifestream is. It’s where all souls go after death and would most certainly fit the bill of “where souls and stars rest” and where Hydaelyn herself is suspected to reside in.

My guess is the Garlean in the judge armor might be Nerva yae Galvus, Varis’s cousin and one of the fighters for the throne after his death. I think he’s legatus of the IIIrd Legion. The fact he survived is impressive. I have a suspicion that the blue haired Garlean could be Nerva’s son. Not entirely sure, just a guess at this time.

I originally thought the line spoken when we saw Zodiark was Fandaniel, but I’m starting to see it differently. I think it might be the lines of the other Convocation members before Zodiark. It lacks the nuance of Fandaniel’s voice when he normally speaks. Those distinct vocal patterns. We saw the Amaurotines behind us and being surrounded by various masks. Fandaniel doesn’t seem to have his motives changed in my opinion, we just are seeing what their pleas were to Zodiark and what became of Zodiark in the present time, being fractured.

  2. I am actually confused, because I play with JP voices and I know how characters sound in English, in the end in JP version of a trailer it doesn't sound like Emet at all. But maybe that is just me. Oh and in JP trailer Fandaniel voice sounds way more dramatic and his line is a bit different.

  3. Yoshida looked visibly upset and on the verge of tears when announcing the delay on stream. The delay was decided less than a week ago apparently. Said that it was the first time in his career it's happened and he'll work hard to gain our trust back. I was effected by the delay and sad about it, but I trust Yoshi enough by now that it was 100% nessasary if he says it was.

  4. 35:05 I heard more speculation that this guy could be Nerva, the leader of the 3rd(?) Legion. The last thing we heard of him in the story was that he was fighting in the civil war after zenos killed varis and that he lost the war, but as far as I'm aware it was never mentioned what happened to him after that. So my guess is, that he's the leader of the remaining non-tempered garleans.

47:37 In the german version fandaniel sounds very monotone at this part, nothing like his usual theatrics. Almost like he's brainwashed or in a trance. Could be that he gets (re-)tempered by zodiark?

And regarding character deaths, I think Alphinaud will survive, the ending of the trailer is bait.
And now I say something which will draw the ire of every FF14 fan: I wouldn't mind yshtola dying, when I started playing roughly 2 and a half years ago I at first liked her, but with every expansion I played through I liked her less and less. And if she will be around after EW I will probably just outright hate her, so please kill her off as long as I care about her 😛

  5. what i have gleemed from this trailer is that we are gunna end Zodiark and Hydaelyn or rather from what i see is that both gods no longer wish to continue this struggle so Fandaniel is leading Zenos to "consume" zodiark and Venat is goading us to use hydaelyn.
there is also a parallel to be drawn here from another final fantasy – FFIX in which there are two great crystals struggling for survival but neither wishes to continue and instead conclude that death is all there is left for them. similarly in FFIX there is an ancient race of beings longing for a return of their long dead world.
but thru our deeds we've proven that there is hope for life an Venat sees that within us and so asks that we keep that hope alive and continue to guide the future when they the ancients have ceased to be. so in a way this is super deep.. basically both gods/sides finally coming together admitting they were both wrong an the path we walk was always the better choice and fate is not for false gods to decide but for the people themselves to come to a conclusion and work together to build the world they all want to live in a world they believe in.

  6. and i should also note its a classical FF niche to kill all party members before reaching one epic and final clash with a godly otherworldly force or being xD but usually then after the final clash the party is revived and restored to their stations.
so in a sense yes everyone "could" die but they wont stay permanently dead lol
there is some very strong symbolism and paralles in this story from FFIV the main protag going form a dark knight straight into paladin, their being mage twins in both games, a battle of crystals and worlds, and an unseen force or power manipulating things from behind the curtain or scenes.

  7. When you say that wol could be a pseudo primal, I started thinking that when elidibus was testing out strength. maybe wols growth is due to his renown and worship growing. Elidibus was clearly meant as a dark parallel of wol
