  1. I'm all for the new story. Exploring the world and seeing how things will progress now that there isn't ascian plotting to push things around behind the scenes? Will there be a power vacuum? Will some of the ascian's unfinished plots come back to haunt us? Can't wait to see.

  2. "Maybe that could be its own video when I feel brave enough to talk about a more emotional connection to this franchise".

Thank you for sharing as much as you felt comfortable sharing in this video, it definitely shone through.

  3. Aside from also being excited about everything you listed, I have nothing to add to the conversation. But in the interest of leaving a comment, I will say this:

One of my favorite things about this series is hearing the different stories from people of which characters grabbed them and how, even in some small way, they altered our lives or had an impact on who we became.

For me, that was Squall Lionheart. Viii was my first ff game. And while it's somewhat awkward story was kinda tough for my 12 year old brain to traverse, there was something about an emo kid who had trouble letting people see the human being in their brain. But for those who got there they were met with real passion and love. For some reason as a pretty closed off and stoic person, that has always made the connections I have with people feel so real.

Probably more of a rant than the algorithm required, but you shared so I thought I would too.

  4. Welp, no surprise but I'm excited for Viper. It's the combat style I've always favored from the first time I played a character in a DnD like board game to when a Fencing coach taught us for fun the Case of Swords style. I think the biggest reason though, was when I and a group of friends left 1.0. I created a setting for rp that had different houses devoted to a philosophy and combat style halfway between Limsa and Tural. My favorite was one that dual wielded swords. When 2.0 came out I rejoined alone. Created a new character, and for the past decade I would take different classes that used a sword saying he was studying to follow in the footsteps of his master, my 1.0 char. In Stormblood, he made a friend who declared herself as his "Sword-Sister" since we both went Sam and for some reason she was adopting my dude, and the guy playing her became one of my best friends. He was always positive and did great things for my mental state, which wasn't good at the time. He was always going to be a Sam he said, but we hoped for a dual sword class eventually for me.

Around the time the Ghimlet Dark dungeon came out, we got a pretty cryptic goodbye from him and then just, nothing. Sent me my Eorzea Encylopedia Vol 1 in the mail and vanished. Just said my character better keep to his goal.

So, for that as a big part of my why, I look forward to Viper. It's my own 10-12 year long (whenever 1.0 came out)culmination and I get to tell at least the memory of that great guy, we made it. 🙂

  5. I disagree. My cats have destroyed 0 rolls of toilet paper since I started putting the rolls under rather than over. The prior record was about 2 hours before a previous new roll ended up a pile of shredded paper on the floor. XD Have a good day

  6. Thanks for the PTSD shout out. And I am not handling the release of DT coming out so well. I find myself getting too excited and wanting to lash out at everyone. I only say this to let other veterans know they are not alone. I just need to remind myself I deserve to be happy and so does every veteran out there. I am confused why I want to destroy my own happiness. Hopefully when DT comes out I can be at peace with my happiness.

But even in my lowest lows I don't think I ever told someone to self delete over a video game. Some of these civilians are nuts.

  7. Fun fact about the Hydaelyn & Zodiark story, Yoshida has mentioned that it wasn't until Shadowbringers that they fully figured out what direction they ultimately wanted to go with the story. The fact that it's not obvious speaks volumes of how consistent the writing team has been with themes and how well they were able to take everything they had set up and weave it into a cohesive narrative with the parts written by Natsuko Ishikawa serving as the core.

  8. I'm very excited for VPR, I always like more traditional rogue-like characters and felt great disappointment when FFXIV Rogue watched way to much Naruto and turned into Ninja. So having a new scouting job fill that spot makes me beyond excited. Plus just excited to have more things to do again. I'm one of those crazy people that has leveled EVERY job to it's max level, I blame Cider Spider for this as well as my current objective to get every relic in the game. That said having a story and more juicy lore to bite into instead of just continuing the daily grind will be a wonderful breath of fresh air. Plus more FASHION in terms of not just 2 dyes but new gear itself, and we know the new treasure maps will probably have materials for new glam items too.

  9. Awesome vid!

I'm also looking foreward to Viper in a sinilar way you are to picto and planning on putting a ton of hours into it.

Why Viper? Probably because it feels like a legitimate Ranger class. Rangers are often bow wielding pet classes not dual wielding sword masters, it's a cool archetype and getting to go Darth Maul sounds super fun.

Plus! The fighting style seems right at home with Viera and my current character is a bun bun and it's actually inspired me to do something unusual for her writing.

To harken back to the class it might be replacing, Dragoon, I was told a lot "well you don't have to RP your character as being a Dragoon. You can just make their fighting style similar." For Dragoon I said "no, none of that." And that has been a general MO of mine. This world has established histories for these jobs so I want to be true to them as much as possible. Sure my WOL can ignore a lot of it, but I also play the character as a non WOL adventurer.

Viper is the first one that's made me ignore that. I want my Bun to have learned this among her people and put it away because of tragedy (her twin brother convinced her to leave with him, only for him to die shortly after. She's kept his swords as a reminder bur adopted new fighting styles as a way to cope. In story she's decided to resist this and embrace her past.

This is way too long… but I hope it was interesting.
